About Nicholas
Nick comes from a family of four generations of music in the GREEK/Balkan repertoire. He graduated from Columbia College of Chicago with a concentration in Music Composition in December of 2009. Currently teaching and performing professionally, Nick enjoys all styles of music, but has been declared as an "old soul" by many of his friends. He enjoys playing lots of Motown, funk, and jazz, but is proficient in Classical, Rock, and Blues as well. When not playing music (rarely), he is a Board member for the GivingBackPack Foundation which provides school supplies to underprivileged children. Nick's dedication to education is shown through his music and his personal volunteer hours, he feels his diverse background gives his students an advantage to a broader perspective of music and theory.

I hadn't played the trumpet in 30 years. My first lesson with Nicholas was like starting from scratch. He is very knowledgeable, polite, professional, and definitely patient. I feel that that homework Nicholas assigned was spot on. I'm playing better already after only two days. I would certainly recommend him to a friend.

Nicholas really tailored the lessons to what I needed. They weren't cookie-cutter lessons, and I appreciated that. He answered all the questions I had, and helped me understand some concepts that I never would have gotten just learning online. I definitely recommend him as a teacher.

Nicholas was very patient, took the time to write down information that was helpful (very helpful). Nicholas understood where I was in reference to me knowing nothing about the guitar and he is very knowledgeable with the music trade. He was very clear and kept things simple. I truly enjoy his instructions, can't wait for the next lesson.

Learn from a pro in a friendly, focused environment. Jazz, classical, blues, latin, salsa, funk or get ready for band and auditions. All great musicians have great ears and great time feel (groove). That along with a study of the fundamentals of trombone technique will get us started. Then we'll add the kind of songs that you like to play, and other great trombone literature.

About Jordan
*Experienced teacher and professional musician specializing in beginner music lessons.
*Performed with:
The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Great Good Fine Ok, Gilbert Castellanos, 10,000 Maniacs, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra.
*Recorded on national tv ads including Dreyer's, KFC, Coca-Cola.
*Over 6,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students.
*More than five years of classroom teaching experience in San Diego and Miami-Dade schools: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college jazz ensembles
*Students have included: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from around the world.

My mission is to provide a
positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results:
1. Make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons.
2. Practice at least three times a week, for a minimum of 15 minutes each time.
This formula virtually guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: No Cancellations. If the student is unable to attend a lesson as scheduled I will use the time to email a video lesson to the student. Other alternatives: online lesson, reschedule, add time to next lesson (based on availability). Students may put lessons on hold up to once per quarter with at least one week notice.

*Due to limited availability I am no longer able offer lessons every other week.

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

You can expect a laid back, yet focused environment. Most of all, you can look forward to progress! Hope to see you soon.

Absent for an extended period. Became unreliable and communication deteriorated. Scheduling became spotty.

A sad update to my earlier 5 star review. My son began learning guitar from Jordan when he was eight, he’s now nine. Jordan taught my son to play from the foundation up and did amazing at it. However, he took a month off to go on tour and told us he would continue lessons on skype. The lessons however were once every other week if that, Jordan wasn’t consistent in the schedule. On Skype, Jordan didn’t have a guitar, he held clapping sessions with my son on camera. My sons skills began to fall and his confusion mounted so I asked that Skype lessons discontinue and asked that we pick up the in home lessons once Jordan was back home. I don’t think think this pleased Jordan.

After the tour, Jordan took more time off for vacation (which he’s entitled to) but upon returning home he didn’t call us. I eventually inquired and the next day we had the first face to face lesson in a month or more. Jordan’s demeanor changed, I asked to schedule the rest of the months lessons and was told Jordan would contact me but days went by with no response. We were forced to seek another music studio at that point. I wrote Jordan to notify him of the switch and to thank him for his past teaching but four days later, still no reply.

Jordan is a great teacher but I do not recommend him for young children who are just beginning. Inconsistentsy is hard for kids and having a teacher who is adored just sort of, vanish...was difficult for my son who held him in high esteem.

I’m sorry to have this as my update.

I equally cover fundamentals, technique, tone production, classical, jazz and anything else the student might be interested in.

About Nathan
I have been teaching private lessons for close to 10 years and have been an active performer for even longer, playing in all different types of groups, from rock bands and jazz groups to orchestras and brass bands. I studied music at Frostburg State University (Bachelors) and the Peabody Conservatory (Masters). I can teach just about any age and skill level and cover anything you are interested in learning; whether its a certain style, genre, technique or song.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are laid back, with a focus on perfecting the basics. Most students work out of a method book appropriate to their skill level. Aside from that we'll also spend time learning songs and pieces of the students choice. With the right amount of effort, you'll know your way around your instrument in no time at all

*** Travel Equipment ***
Will provide sheet music and exercises. My students should have a working instrument as well as any method book or sheet music we are working on.

I can help beginners get started or coach advanced students who are preparing for auditions.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

About PAUL
*UPDATED AVAILABILITY FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR*

Hi! My name is Paul. I graduated in 2016 from Arizona State University with my Master of Music in Performance. I am completing the final year of my D.M.A. program at Arizona State University.

I have almost a decade of teaching experience that ranges from private, one-on-one lessons to larger masterclasses. My private students have auditioned into numerous all-region and all-state ensembles.

My performance experience is quite varied. I was a tenured member of the Washington-Idaho Symphony on bass trombone for five years. I left to pursue my Masters degree from ASU. Other orchestral experience includes several Summer Pops concerts with the Great Falls Symphony, some featured artists such as Kansas and Charlie Daniels. I have spent several years playing in jazz bands, Jazz I from the Uni
versity of Idaho and Concert Jazz Band from ASU. In the spring of 2016, I performed with ASU's Concert Jazz Band at Highland Jazz Festival where we featured Wayne Bergeron and Andy Martin. Recent performances include Salt River Brass' " Made in America" program featuring trumpet soloist Rex Richardson, Phoenix Theatre's run of "Bullets Over Broadway," and performing with and conducting the Arizona State University Trombone Ensemble at the 2017 International Trombone Festival. In December 2017, I made my solo debut performing with Salt River Brass. I recently attended the 2018 Pokorny Seminar where I worked with numerous musicians including Tim Higgins (SFO), Jim Markey (BSO), Dr. Andrew Glendening (Host/RSO), and Gene Pokorny (CSO).

Trombone is, and should be, FUN. It's my main instrument, and I have 20 years of experience: both my Bachelor's and my Postgraduate Diploma are in Trombone Performance. If you want someone who knows the instrument inside and out, who can help you with intricate technical issues, and who is well acquainted with trombone repertoire and how our instrument is used in different styles and ensembles, I've got the knowledge and the skills -- and I'll do it all in a way that helps you LOVE playing.

About Holly
My 20 years of musical experience taught me that JOY is as important as knowledge and technique. We'll pursue a learning trajectory that suits you and your goals (large or small!), all while providing you with the encouragement to enjoy the process as well as the results. My teaching style is dynamic and positive; I want you to look forward to your lessons. And I have both the teaching and performing chops to challenge you and impart some serious skills.
I have my Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Conservatory and a Postgraduate Diploma in Trombone Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. I've taught a wide range of students -- from children who've never before picked up an instrument, to accomplished high schoolers, to adults who've always wanted to learn and finally have the freedom to do so.
I enj
oy helping people as much as I enjoy performing, and I'd love the chance to inspire and encourage you however I can.

My teen daughter has had one lesson with Holly so far and we are both very impressed. It was clear to me that my daughter learns easily from Holly's teaching style and I could hear her progress throughout the hour. Additionally, Holly has an upbeat, positive attitude that only added to my daughter's enjoyment. She's counting down the days until her next lesson.

I began playing trumpet again after a 45 years break (I played in HS). I was concerned because I tend to be very self-conscious and nervous. Holly is amazing, not only because of her technical expertise, but because she has taken all the stress and worry out of learning to play. She has made music what it should have always been ... FUN! I love our lessons together and enjoy practicing. She is a wonderful instructor and I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn to play an instrument.

I'll be glad to answer any questions anyone may have.

-Shachar Israel - Assistant Principal Trombone - Cleveland Orchestra

About Nolan
I am a student studying Trombone performance at Ohio University through the Honors Tutorial College. I play in several ensembles across campus as well as performing in a low-brass trio semi-professionally.

Students can expect weekly practice assignments and a structured plan for improvement. My lessons focus primarily on the nuances of trombone playing, but will also cover setting goals, effective practice habits, maintaining motivation, related music theory, and the professional world of music. Students studying with me will not only gradually improve their instrument performance, but they will also be exposed to the successful musicians of our age and their teachings synthesized into a private lesson curriculum.

I want to help you harness your talent to improve your musicality and introduce you to one of the most inspiring art fo
rms in the world.

My son is severly dyslexic and Nolan has been amazing. We used a different takelessons instructor for 6 months before we found Nolan and the difference in my son amd his level of playing has been substantial. We have been with Nolan for about 7 months, he is kind, patient, and very knowledgeable.
