I have been recording & performing blues music since late 2004, & in that time I've acquired a lot of knowledge on the nuances involved in making blues music truly sing on the guitar. We will cover rhythm guitar approaches, chord voicing, when to play (& not to play), developing leads, & working/blending as an ensemble member of a blues band.

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.
David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!
About David
David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playin

I can honestly say that Christian has exceeded my expectations, but it might be for the non-musical aspect that he has. As far as ability goes, just watch his videos and you will see he knows much more than necessary to teach anyone else how to play. However, what makes Christian so great at teaching is that he doesn't translate that ability into unreasonable expectations for his students. He realizes the personal nature of music and will help the student achieve their own personal goals and even more, if the student wishes to do so and puts in the practice and effort of learning.
He has been very good at building on what he has previously taught. Christian has also given much attention to where I seem to connect with music, which is personal only to me. I don't connect to music the same as he does. He knows that and makes an effort to see music from the way I am seeing it, at least he does that during our time in the studio together. This helps each student be the best that THEY can be. This is what a good teacher does. A great teacher also, with time, slowly makes himself obsolete. He teaches the student to figure out how to teach themselves. Christian does this as well. It is not his intention to lose students. But he absolutely wants me to see WHY I am doing what I am doing so I can apply that theory to other aspects of the guitar ON MY OWN.
So, I am not saying he is the best teacher out there. "Best" is a funny word anyway. What I am saying is: Christian will help you be as good as you can possibly be within the realm that you want to be in, as long as you want to actually learn the instrument fully by putting in the work -- work is always necessary.
So I should also mention that I am a song writer and a piano player, and have been for over 20 years. That is why I can say I am speaking from experience. I have had instructors before. I know what it is like and I know what to look for. You can't go wrong with Christian, if you are really looking to learn how to play the guitar and get the most out of your dedication to the instrument."

Kimberly has a real focus on and talent for teaching. My lessons are tailored to meet my interests. A large part of the lesson is devoted to learning her method for blues soloing--at least 5 approaches to improvisation and comping. After several years, I've come to see how these approaches interweave, complement each other and have become an intuitive part of my musical vocabulary.
Also, because I expressed an interest, part of the lesson involves sight reading, learning blues and jazz theory, developing rhythmic playing sense, and learning a few favorite solos. Kimberly has an amazing ability to tab out and teach any song you give her. Which leads to the best part--after 6 months I was invited to play with one of her ensemble classes. While I was absolutely petrified with fear at the beginning, this has turned into one of the highlights of my week every week. It is just downright fun! It's a safe and forgiving environment where you can make mistakes and learn, or try things out that might flop, or turn into something cool. Every teacher and guitar magazine article all point to the need to play with other musicians to develop your skills and this is where Kimberly Allison really delivers. I feel that I could now sit in with other musicians and contribute.
I give my highest recommendation for taking lessons with Kimberly."

Learning how to play blues guitar? Pay extra attention to these five things from guitar teacher Mike B.... 1. In Tune Bends The blues guitar style is full of bending strings. Bends, as well as hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides, give guitarists the ability to imitate the way singers use various inflections while singing melodies. However, unlike hammers-ons and slides, bends are not guaranteed to be in tune. Since there is nothing worse than an out-of-tune bend in the climax of a great solo …
