I love teaching Algebra. I think math is very enjoyable and I share my happiness and knowledge, so my students could feel that also. You would probably laugh quite a few times during my Algebra class and leave it feeling way more confident that you could do it. I do not believe in memorizing Math, so we work on understanding and students are creating their own Algebra in a way. And creating a proof is a very enjoyable experience that you never forget.
I also love teaching online. There are so many wonderful tools for that now!!! For example, screen sharing. Screen sharing allows my students to see my computer screen if I'm explaining something and show me what they are working on their screens. As we progress through the class I share links on rules and definitions that my student doesn't remember or getting confused and we could work with that right away and also the notes on the class are still available on both of our computers, so it is easy to review, ask questions and ...

I like to approach math topics in different ways so the student can not only understand the topic but also start to develop their own methods to approach new topics with confidence.
I am a graduate of Michigan State university with a degree in jazz studies and math. I've been teaching formally and informally for the past 5 years in one on one settings and with groups and camps.
My approach is to work with the individual based on their specific musical and personal learning needs while also emphasizing the basics (feel, sound, tone, rhythm, technique) and integrating what the student is doing in their current music groups as well as what music they are personally interested in.
I have experience teaching, performing, writing, and arranging.
I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science, and I have taught math anywhere between pre-algebra and calculus (including algebra) for 5 years. I have received perfect scores on both SAT Math, ACT Math, and SAT Math Level 2 (SAT Subject Test). I have taken AP Calculus BC while in high school, and I have taken Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations at MIT, and I actively participated in many math competitions through elementary, middle, and high schools.
Before the lessons, I like to talk with parents, students, and/or teachers to fully gauge what they have been struggling with and how to best help them. Then I identify the student's gap in knowledge while helping them complete their homework and give them additional drilling problems as needed to help them fully master the materials and do well on their tests. I always carry around books containing extra problems depending on the students' levels and goals. I also often introduce relevant SAT Math, ACT Math, and ...
I'm passionate about learning and student development. I read about learning hacks when I'm tired, and, in my ideal vacation, I would learn about all things that are on my bucket list (yes, I'm serious). I'm also near-obsessed about students' experiences and
“I would not have passed my test in such a short time without her. I hired her a week before my test. She was very professional and very smart, and she used different technique to help me remember.”

“Calc is going great. I got all A’s on my first three tests. Thank you for all your help!”

“My daughter is so happy about her A in math. Thank you for everything you are teaching her!”

I believe in in-depth learning. In-depth learning helps my student build the foundation necessary to succeed in their future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, many of my lessons feature derivation of formulas. For the lessons that do not involve formulas, I present a few simple concepts from which we can derive and solve many other problems. My lessons also feature numerous questions to enhance student engagement and to improve student confidence of having them solve the problem on their own as much as possible. I then drill my students with practice problems and get them to explain until I'm fully convinced that my students truly understood the material.
Though I specialize in gifted students, I also have worked with students from all kinds of background. Most of my students are either high school or college students, but I also worked with younger students. I also helped some students implement organizational tips and develop study skills necessary to succeed in their future classes. My students are from all over the world--China, France, Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and United States. To this day, my closest friends are still the international students. English is my second language as well, and I certainly empathize with students who struggle with the English language.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you think we may be good fit!

I have been tutoring math for 9 years. I can break down problems step-by-step so they are much less intimidating! I focus on the thought process behind solving the problems, so students understand how to approach future questions rather than just learning one problem at a time.
