About Dansby
I am a graduate of Cal Poly Ponoma University with a BA degree in voice. I have 20+ year experience teaching voice and piano. Building people is my passion and commitment. My students learn by doing and I love the growth each student takes from their lessons as well as their performances. I am a working artist in the music field as a vocalist, conductor, and motivating speaker.

Dansby was a true professional!! As anybody would be... We were a bit nervous but as soon as we met Dansby we were set us at ease, he was polite collected and we got down to work immediately. He kept the focus on my daughter but also gave us our respect as parents. Before all this went down my daughter was very adamant about wanting to have a female instructor because she felt that a woman would understand her better as an artist but dansby pushed all that aside with his knowledge, experience and demeanor. I'm so glad we did! She was won over by the end of the lesson and feels as if Dansby is exactly what she needs I'm so grateful and we look forward to our next lesson with her new instructor.

I have been taking lessons with Mr. Dansby for one year. Before I started taking singing lessons, I did not know anything about singing. Whenever I would try to sing, I would be ridiculed or put down and it really was a deterrent for me to try and sing. Until I started taking lessons with Mr. Dansby. Initially I thought I would be taking lessons for about 6 months because I thought I wouldn't be good at it. However after sticking with it, I started to enjoy singing because of the way Mr. Dansby teaches.

Mr. Dansby teaches in a manner that you can relate. His teaching methods are not like usual musical teachings with scales and octaves. He uses nursery rhymes and popular themes like wedding march or star wars theme to get you used to the notes and then he slowly fills in the details from there.

Mr. Dansby is a great instructor and I would recommend him to anyone who is interested in singing. He is a relatable, knowledgeable, and accommodating instructor. He works with you to teach you a skill that you could enjoy for the rest of your life.

All styles! I will teach you skills you will treasure for the rest of your life.

About Allison
Hi! My name is Allison and I'm an opera singer. I fell madly in love with music and singing as a young child and was bitten by the opera bug at age 15. Ever since seeing that first opera, I've never looked back. I did lead roles in my high school musicals, then got my Bachelor of Music and my Master of Music degrees in Classical Voice and Opera Performance both from competitive conservatories. Ever since graduation, I've been lucky enough to make my work as a professional singer. I've traveled all over the country and even internationally bringing this amazing art form to audiences. Now I feel like my dream has come true because I get to do what I love: sing! Pavarotti said, "I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to." I feel so lucky to have a life in music and now I want to s
hare everything I've learned with you.

Students of mine regularly are chosen for lead roles in school and extracurricular musicals and operas and score very high in school music evaluations.

*** Lesson Details ***
During a voice lesson with me, we'll warm up and do vocal exercises for the first half, then we'll learn new music together or work on music you've already learned. I love teaching all styles of classical music and working in many different languages including French, German, Italian, English, and more. I teach lyric diction of all of these languages and the styles of each composer. Above all, lessons with me are relaxed and really fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room w/ electronic piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical Vocal Technique. I feel very comfortable assigning repertoire of any difficulty and I am especially confident in my lyric diction knowledge of Italian, French, German, and English. I can teach audition preparation and audition technique, as well as acting and stage technique for singers.

I was extremely nervous and worried, it was my first real singing lesson, she made me feel comfortable and relaxed immediately. She can be fun as well as challenging. It was a wonderful pleasure to take classes with her and I hope to continue in the future.

Allison was able to identify my natural vocal range in the first lesson. Never thought that I would be comfortable singing in the soprano range, but she has given me week by week goals to build vocal technique and help me see my progress. She has an outgoing and enthusiastic personality! Lessons are a pleasure.

I emphasize classical technique from a physical perspective, and lessons are sometimes a body awareness workout. Read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Through this physical approach, we discover what the student's voice truly is, instead of attempting to mimic popular artists.

Singing and Voice lessons must be at least 45min duration.

Customized for individual goals, Singing lessons may include many things. Perhaps your goal is as simple as enjoying the healthy benefits of breathing deeply, strengthening posture, and singing for fun. Senior citizens can take singing lessons for the purpose of remembering old songs while sitting up and breathing. Singing lessons teach proper vocal warm-up, but also emphasize becoming familiar with the many standard songs of various genres.

Absolute beginners are welcome to start out with me, learning to match pitch, and building good habits from the first lessons. Less experienced singers will improve upon their beginning ...

About Melodie
I am Melodie, a highly experienced private lesson teacher of voice, piano, and theory. Read my profile carefully before you sign up with me.

My music teacher specialties are (1) teaching classical vocal technique from physical perspective to discover the student's unique and true voice, (2) teaching how to read paper piano music at first sight and play it without knowing the song, and (3) translating the confusing way you were taught Music Theory into something that makes sense.

Why sing or play piano? Do you want improved balance, posture, relaxation, abdominal strength, confidence, cultural awareness, emotional expression, memory support, and stress relief? You'd be surprised how many people take lessons just to feel better. I can't guarantee you'll have the same results, but I promise you'll know if you want to pay me more mone
y or not after about five lessons.

Label me Traditional, or Classical, or even Persnickety, but we all transcend labels. I can perform opera, simplify unifying concepts, teach folk singing, direct a church choir, suggest country repertoire, coach performance charisma, and even officiate a marriage ceremony as a Dudeist Priest. I also bake a mean pie.

Complete beginners are welcome in all areas. Advanced lessons are available for voice only. In my studio I teach adults only. Singing and voice lessons have minimum 45min duration. Prices for lessons at my studio are $30 for 30min, $41 for 45min, and $50 for 60min. Online lessons, available for singing and theory but not piano, are the same price. Schedule-As-You-Go lessons with no recurring schedule slot are an option, if you prefer that to taking a lesson the same time every single week.

My teaching studio is a residential office on a high second floor walk-up near the intersection of Chicago and Ashland. I might be able to travel within East Village / Ukrainian Village / Wicker Park / Noble Square for an additional $15 travel fee. If I travel to your location, we can negotiate younger ages and group fees.

What do you want to learn? As partners, the student and I build a plan, balancing current aspirations with proven methods. I work with the paper music and workbooks you already own, and TAILOR THE LESSONS TOWARD PRACTICAL VALUE. On the other hand, I believe I have an ethical responsibility to provide a minimum of classical instruction.

I honor the opportunity to share the joy of music with you.

Upfront deal breakers:
• Communication outside of lesson time will be mainly internet and email. The email address in your profile must be a valid form of official business communication.
• Students may not bring pets, children, or guests to the lesson. A quietly observing adult guest is welcome with 48-hour notice.
• My students know if they use too much fragrance, whether it be laundry scent boosters or hair treatments, they may be refused entrance into my studio. It's a big deal.
• You pay for any lessons not canceled or rescheduled before the 24-hour deadline, whether you attend or not. Do not be near me when you are contagiously ill. Ask me to forgive late cancellations caused by true emergencies, but realize I don’t have to.
• If you are a singing student, you need a place where you can practice. Prior to your first cancellation deadline, you must read the "Your First Singing Lesson" section found on each Singing or Voice Subject Page.
• If you want to learn how to read keyboard scores or understand how to play keyboard by ear, sign up for Music Theory. If you don’t have regular access to something that can legally be called a piano, including weighted keys and a damper pedal, sign up for Music Theory. Repeat: if you can’t practice on a real piano, don’t take Piano lessons. Music Theory lessons will probably teach you what you want to learn, anyway.

Ask me a question using the Ask-A-Question feature. Watch my videos and think about it. I'm a good teacher. I sincerely appreciate the time it took you to read my profile. Thank you.

So far I've only had one lesson with Melodie and she really cares to help you achieve what you're trying to accomplish. We went through a few things such as posture, how to breathe, humming, vowels, position of tongue and other things. About myself: I don't know how to sing and this is my first singing lesson.

My lessons with Melodie have been great! She is extremely knowledgeable. I'm a new piano player, and she has been very patient with me as we work our way through the basics. She is great at explaining the theory side in a way I can understand. And the out of class work she suggests not only drives home what we worked on in the lesson, but it also has me playing some basic songs...which is encouraging and keeps practice fun!

Singing is my specialty--especially, singing in a relaxed, body-conscious, creative/heartfelt way. Are you longing to develop your own unique voice, and to share it with the world? To sing with more relaxation and freedom? To connect with audiences and to move them emotionally? Then, you've come to the right place.

About Jennifer
I am a professional singer-songwriter and have been teaching lessons fulltime for the last 12 years. I teach students of all ages and levels of experience. My current range of students include: kids with learning/developmental disabilities, teenagers who have starred in school musicals, and performing adult singer-songwriters. Whatever your background or desire, I can help you to cultivate your unique musical potential, and to strengthen your creative voice.

As a professional vocalist and pianist, I have worked freelance, in a variety of settings, over the years--including solo, in wedding bands, small jazz and rock/pop groups and with big bands. I have been singing with the Mood Swings Big Band for 6+ years. During that time, we have performed at the White House, the Chamber of Commerce and in Kennebunkport, Maine (at the Bush e
state).

I also have an extensive professional and personal background in meditation (10 years), astrology (5 years) and healing (particularly Reiki, 4 years). I am very interested in the intersection between a healing/mindfulness-awareness approach and singing/playing piano.

We work to cultivate your singing voice so you can let the song of your heart shine forth with power and passion. During lessons, we work through vocal warm-ups, vocal exercises and a song of your choice (any style is great). It is most helpful to have a backing track of your song during the lesson. I teach solid vocal technique to help students find and develop their unique sound and maintain a strong and healthy singing voice for years.

About Angela

A musician and an actor willing to train singers of any genre and any age! Specializing in musical theatre, keeping the voice safe while remaining vulnerable is my main goal when coaching- as well as tailoring my lessons to the musical style and aesthetic unique to the student. Lessons largely focus on breathing and resonance while the student and I can build a repertoire useful for whatever artistic endeavors they choose to pursue- whether it's a songbook for audition use or a composition of the students'. As a songwriter and composer I also offer to help singer/songwriters develop new music and a unique sound. If you're looking to explore your musicianship and creativity in anything from Broadway to bluegrass or if you have questions, please feel free to shoot me a message!

About Annelise
BFA audition season is coming up! Looking for an audition coach for acting or musical theatre? I'd be happy to help! Straight from the horse's mouth, I'll give you the inside information on what goes on in the audition room and how to get the most out of your time in front of the panel.

I'm an actor/musician born and raised in Las Vegas home for the summer before my final year at Montclair State University as a BFA Acting student. I've been studying music since six years old and have been doing acting and musical theatre for 7 years alongside directing, writing, voice tutoring, and composing.

Acting lessons available for a toolbox approach including Meisner, Uta Hagen, Improv, Stanislavski, Practical Aesthetics, and classics along with the voice work of Skinner and Linklater and movement technique of Laban and Suzuki. Lessons are t
otally personalized for the needs of the actor and can range from Shakespeare to contemporary scene study with a focus on specificity, clarity, vulnerability, and sincerity.

I teach singers in all genres, though I have the most experience in MT, folk, and pop. My goal is to help students not only learn to sing with the utmost vulnerability and honesty, but to ensure that they can do so while maintaining safe technique through breathing and relaxation. I work hard to eliminate affectations and habits to find the most uninhibited and expressive that the student's voice has to offer. MT singers will also focus largely on acting and finding authenticity within the suspended reality of song.

Lessons are tailored to the music taste and needs of the student and lesson plans are completely individualized to ensure the student is learning at growing at whatever pace suits their path while making sure they're still having fun and making art. If the student is interested in writing their own music, good news! I'm always willing to help fellow songwriters with composition.

I also offer lessons to child singers and actors as I love nothing more than seeing kid artists. Children's voice lessons are largely based in Musical Theatre/classics, focusing on ear training, sheet music, phrasing, rhythms, and breathing while children's acting lessons are based largely in classic/contemporary film and theatre, focusing on projection, clarity, commitment, and confidence.

A firm believer that anyone can act and anyone can sing- willing to teach anyone who doesn't already know more than I do!

I have been performing for more than 10 years in various genres, including opera, musical theater, jazz, gospel and popular styles.
