Get ready for band in a relaxed friendly but focused environment. The foundation of music lessons is to develop good ears and good time feel (groove). These are skills that all the best musicians have. That, along with some study of clarinet basics are what I am hoping to get started in the first 2-3 lessons. After that we'll also devote time to the kind of music that inspired you to look me up. My hope is that you will become a well rounded musician and clarinet player, and that I can show you some music I think is cool.

I enjoy helping young musicians prepare for auditions, and competing for placement in school ensembles and for scholarships. I have also had success helping adults get back into things and have success in community bands.

About Jordan

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I have been teaching clarinet for nearly thirty years (beginning to college level), and particularly enjoy teaching out of the Klosé method in a way that is interactive and enjoyable. While learning solid technique, we will include resonator fingerings for the best possible tone, and think beyond the wonderful clarinet literature waiting for you, as we unlock your personality in the chameleon quality of the clarinet. I encourage students to also play by ear and learn cultural traditional music from all over the world.

About Aage
Oregon native Aage (pronounced like Owen without N) has been teaching woodwinds to students of all ages for thirty years. He has performed throughout the US and Denmark, as well as Iceland (International Viola Congress) and Holland (World Bass Clarinet Conference). He taught for many years at The College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University, and performed for over twenty years with the Boise Philharmonic and Darkwood Consort. He has released three CDs on Portland-based Rampur Records, received a 2007 Performing Arts Fellowship from the Idaho Commission on the Arts, and is the leading scholar and performer of the douçaine (early oboe). He teaches both modern and historical winds, with the unique twist of encouraging students of both modern instruments such as clarinet or saxophone, and early instruments such as recorder and double-re
eds, to engage in everything from medieval and traditional music to jazz and classical.

Aage enjoys teaching students of all ages, from beginning to college level, including homeschoolers and adult beginners.

I loved lessons with Aage, his spunky attitude and constant encouragement is second to none. Learning with Aage, I didn't realize how much he really offered until I became a teacher myself. He was able to foster my love of music while still giving me the skills I needed to win the Idaho State Solo Championship in 2007. I was also exposed to music written long before the clarinet was created and with his encouragement, participated in numerous honor groups and music related community service.

I've played clarinet for 8 years and in high school was admitted to the Symphony Band via audition; I also performed in various small ensembles and received private lessons for 2-3 years.

About Natalie
After graduating high school at the top of my class, I got full funding for an economics degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where I was born. I was very busy in college--my extracurriculars included 2 semesters abroad (Spain, Singapore), writing an honors thesis, being a consultant to the academic advising office, and being president of an honor society; besides this I worked my butt off in classes and graduated with a 3.7.

Besides academics, I am super interested in fitness, general wellness and psychology.

I would love to talk it out with you wherever our learning interests intersect!

I like to give students a good solid theoretical foundation first, then build to confirm with the students specific goals. For example, if the student is into a particular type of music (jazz, soul, classical...) I tailor the lessons to meet those goals.

About Jeff
Starting with my first music lessons at age 7, I've spent the last 40 plus years studying and performing music. I studied classical guitar with well-known Cuban virtuoso, Carlos Molina & Adam Holtzman. I've performed with some of the music world’s greats such as blues legend Bo Diddley, The Platters, The Coasters, Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills & Nash), Bonnie Raitt as well as jazz greats Randy Brecker, Red Rodney, Ira Sullivan, Pam Laws & Marcus Roberts. Since moving to the Portland area in April 2015 I've performed with the Portland Wind Symphony, The Hillsboro Symphony, The Minidoka Swing Band, for Nike at the Olympic trials, on jazz night at WineUp on Williams downtown. & innumerable private performances. As a teacher, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Florida State University and after teaching middle school in F

I've been playing the clarinet for 15 years and teaching private lessons for one year. I have loved helping my students improve their tone quality, technique, and rhythm on the clarinet. My students have developed a passion for music and become more advanced on the clarinet by taking lessons with me. I use rhythm, technique, and tonal quality exercises, and a specialized program to teach simple to advanced rhythm. I'll share the "tricks of the trade" to help you master difficult music with ease.

About Ally
Hi, there! My name is Ally and I can't wait to meet you! I've been playing the clarinet for 15 years and teaching private lessons for a year and a half (combined experience). I have loved helping my students improve their sound, technique, and rhythm on the clarinet. I am proud to be able to teach private lessons at an affordable price. During my undergraduate degree at Ohio University, I marched in the "Most Exciting Band in the Land", the Ohio University Marching 110, which was ranked the number one marching band in the United States in 2014. I've been privileged to take private lessons under the best doctorate level instructors throughout the years. My musical enthusiasm and encouraging personality will help students to also become excited about the clarinet, making them more likely to practice and continue with the clarinet long-term.
I'm an uplifting, hardworking, and caring person and my teaching style is encouraging, precise, and collaborative. My goal is to help you be "a cut above the rest". I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

It was a good experience to have lesson with Ally on line. She is a good teacher with experience and patience. My son had 10 lessons with her, started from zero knowledge to a good simple song . He played piano for 5 more years, maybe this helps him to understand the notes easier. We definitely will go back to Ally for more lessons when we need her help.

My lessons embody the values of music itself - it lets you be expressive and creative, but it also requires precision, self-discipline, communication skills, the ability to plan ahead – music education gives people the tools they need to succeed in all parts of life! An accomplished player and teacher, I offer lessons to any and all experience levels and ages in clarinet. For beginners specifically, my curriculum includes basic music theory and sight-singing skills, though these topics can be applied across all skill levels.

About Justin
I specialize in orchestral clarinet and music theory, and can tailor my lessons to each individual student's needs. I believe technique is the foundation upon which all of music takes place. An apt comparison is language; if you cannot speak, say, French, how could I expect you to write poetry in French? The same holds true for music and clarinet - without a solid foundation in technique, it is not possible to express everything you want to say about a piece, beginner or advanced. All of my students begin with exercises in embouchure and finger techniques, which continue throughout our studies.

I recently received my Masters degree in clarinet performance from the Hartt School of Music, under Ayako Oshima. My previous instructors include Sarah Porwoll-Lee and Greg Balfany, during my undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-L
a Crosse. I have played clarinet since age ten, and have experience in a number of different ensembles, including the school orchestras at UW-La Crosse and Hartt, the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra (substitute), and the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra.

I’m a professional clarinetist and woodwind instructor with 8 years of teaching experience, four of which include instruction at institutions of higher learning. I have a passion for developing smaller studios into well-established programs and helping students define and accomplish their musical goals.

About Leslie
I am a professional clarinetist who occasionally dabbles with the other woodwinds. I graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with my masters in clarinet performance, and with honors from Adams State University with my bachelors in clarinet performance and secondary English education.

My students can expect to improve week to week in their technique, sound production, and basic music theory skills. Every student begins their musical journey in a different place - I personally started playing clarinet with my hands reversed.... after about 6 months of struggling to make any sound that wasn't a squeek, I found a private teacher who changed everything for me. My goal is to help all of my students excel the way my teachers did for me.

I have experience teaching students from beginner through college level, includi
ng time spent on faculty at Mount Holyoke College and the Eaglebrook School. I also have experience working as a guest clinician at schools and festivals around Colorado including the Top of the Nation Honor Band, hosted at Adams State University.

As a performer, I am active around Colorado. I am currently a member of the Lone Tree Symphony, but have also performed with the Colorado Wind Ensemble, Denver Pops Orchestra, Lakewood Symphony Orchestra, San Juan Symphony, Steamboat Springs Symphony. Additionally, I occasionally flex my doubling skills and have performed in musical theater productions in Evergreen, Colorado as well as Easthampton, Massachusetts.

My personal passion is classical music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style and it can be achieved through many different styles of music. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
