Learn to develop a healthy technique for singing in the classical style with proper vowels, breathing, space, and placement. Learn songs and arias in English, French, German, and Italian.

About Erin
I have a Master's in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and over a decade of vocal training and performance experience.

I teach voice lessons to kids, teenagers, and adults.

My voice students range in ability from absolute beginner to intermediate with significant previous musical and vocal training. I have helped the beginning students learn to match pitch and read notes on the staff. My voice students learn to sing with purer vowels, increased breath support, and to access greater vocal range.

I teach beginning piano to all ages. I teach students as young as 5 as long as they are able to stay focused for the duration of a half hour lesson. Most of my piano students are in the 7 -10 range, but I teach some beginning adults as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice students will learn to improve their technique thr
ough proper breathing, correct vowels, space, and resonance. I teach repertoire based on the students' interest, but I am well versed in classical and operatic repertoire in English, French, German, and Italian, as well as some musical theatre and jazz. I also teach pop songs for those who are interested. I can help you improve your technique for whatever style of music you want to sing.

Piano students will learn to read music, play with correct form, learn scales, and improve their musicianship skills. I teach out of lesson books (mostly Faber) to improve technique, but I want students to learn supplemental pieces that are fun for them as well.

I hope to share with you the same joy I get from making music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio at home has a piano, my music library, a large mirror for aiding the student in observing their vocal habits.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For in home lessons, students will need to have a keyboard or a piano in a space free of distractions. Students should have a neat, three ring binder to hold any loose sheet music. Piano students need a regular notebook to write lesson assignments.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical art songs and musical theatre.

Opera is an amazing art form; the human voice can be so focused that it can carry over an entire orchestra with no amplification. Whether you aspire to this art form or not, it is great to learn how to support and project your voice and to keep it healthy for a lifetime of singing enjoyment.
I recommend adults take from 45 minutes to 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. The price of lessons DECREASES by 10% after each 5 lesson purchased for the first 15 lessons. Studio policy is located at VaaraMusic.com.

About Julia
I have a Master’s in Opera Performance from the Boston and New England Conservatories as well as graduating from Vocal Performance programs at Boston University and Western Washington University. I have sung professionally with Boston Lyric Opera, Children’s Theater Companies, churches and synagogue and have toured on the east coast as well as Athens, Greece. Premiering new music is a specialty. I can help you prepare your pieces for auditions.  My students have successful auditions for college opera and music theater programs, and as choir soloists.

Students gain a larger vocal range and an easy, natural way of singing whether it is in a rock band, choir or as a soloist. Together we find the joy of singing while building a solid technique.

I have worked with small children as a Musikgarten teacher and have toured artist residency
programs which introduce children to music and theater in schools.   I was adjunct faculty at the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University and local music studios as well as maintaining my private teaching practice.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am persistent and positive! Working and performing with singers and master teachers has helped me to be a resourceful teacher who understands the process of becoming a singer. I believe that a sense of fun and play helps you to accomplish your goals quickly.  For beginners you will learn how the voice works and how to care for and develop your instrument, I recommend adults take 45" - 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. The price of lessons DECREASES by 10% after each 5 lesson purchased for the first 15 lessons. Studio policy is located at VaaraMusic.com. We will choose music that interests you and helps to build your voice starting with basics before moving to more complex and challenging music. Understanding music theory and sight-reading will help you get the most out of your singing. After 3 - 6 months you should have a good command of breathing and an understanding of how to sing with an expressive tone. For the advanced student, I can help you work on trouble spots and give you tools to help with the changes that voices naturally go through.  I look forward to giving you my full focus and celebrating your growth and accomplishments!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Condo w/ open area with piano. Visitor's parking lot w/ seating in studio for parents to listen. Parents with younger siblings can use play areas outside.
Basic library of vocal music, giving the student a way to sample different kinds of songs before purchasing books or downloading songs on their own. Music stand, iPhone plug-in/Amp for accompaniments and examples you want me to hear.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a basic library of vocal music at my home studio and will bring targeted books with me. Students should print out their favorite popular songs from such services as Music Notes website.
I expect my students to provide a keyboard, music stand and notebook as well as a low distraction environment.

*** Specialties ***
As an opera and musical theater, Oratorio and church singer, I help singers of all levels improve within their genre from popular music to opera. A good singing technique will help performers in any style stay healthy and enjoy an expressive singing instrument.

I have been taking classical voice lessons for 12 years, and I have been giving singing lessons for 3 years to a wide range of students. I have a Bachelor of Music degree, with a focus in opera, so I am well-versed in many forms of technique and style. I believe that the necessary foundations of classical voice are breath control, vowel specificity, and development of tone. Also, I always make sure my students are engaged and focused, and my goal is to help them achieve their personal goals. My least enjoyable experiences were when I had teachers who weren't tuned in to my specific needs and wants, so I make sure to always be attentive and accepting of my students. I also try to push my students to their greatest potential, and have students who have made it to Broadway and other successful arenas.

About Mariana
Hello! After earning my Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Voice from Hunter College in 2011, I have been working successfully as a singer, voice coach, and academic tutor. As a singer, over the past 8 years I have performed at professional theaters across the country, including Off-Broadway and at the world-renown Carnegie Hall. I specialize in musical theatre, but have a thorough classical technique, as well as strong pop/rock/belt training.

My teaching style is highly energetic, and engages the development of the student's self-esteem and enjoyment, but is also focused on a foundational technique and strong work-ethic. I am extraordinarily proud of the accomplishments many of my students have made, from achieving principal parts in their school productions, to even getting cast in Broadway shows. I am determined to help every on
e of my students reach their greatest potentials.

As a tutor, my approach is no different. Trained in the highly specialized and effective Lindamood-Bell programs, I have an intuitive grasp of children's needs and levels. I teach decoding, math, and reading comprehension, and nurture students' self-esteem and independence in their learning.

*** Lesson Details ***
I give lessons in 30, 45, and 60 minute increments. Each lesson will be personalized to the specific needs of the student.

We practiced the new cadence for example of the deceptive cadence, the plagal cadence, and the phrygian. we learnt the basic root progression. a standard method of connecting triads with roots a fifth apart is to hold the common tone in the same voice and move all the other parts to the closest possible chord number. We learn about mediant triads s well.some ways using cadence that I can expand my harmonization practice is in general, when tempted to part write or analyze a chord in common-practice music as iii (in major), give the context further thought. i imagine with this knowledge it ill help me to compose a better harmonize song.
We practice together the scale degrees that are designated by Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3...), chor ds are similarly designated by Roman numerals (I, II, III). For example, in the key of C major the notes are C,D,E,F,G,A,B and we have designated them as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. However, when we consider the triad chords in the key of C we have Cmaj, Dm, Em, Fmaj, Gmaj, Am, Bdim. These are designated I,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII. When speaking about these chords, for instance in the key of C major, we would call Gmaj the five chord, Dm the two chord,

The easiest way to find an interval's name is to first, count all the pitch names present, including the notes themselves (ignore sharps and flats at this point). Then, find out (had it been missing a flat or sharp) what type of interval it would be, depending on whether it is perfect (a 1,4,5,8) or major (2,6,7). If there are no sharps or flats, you are done. If there are, figure out if the flat or sharp decreases or increases the distance between the two pitches. If it increases the distance, the interval is augmented. If it decreases the distance, and the interval would otherwise be perfect, it is diminished. If it decreases the distance and the interval would otherwise be major, it is min that is what I learnt

Mariana was great! Very professional and able to explain the techniques in a very clear way. When I began, I was very nervous and self-conscious. She was patient and kind and never made me feel embarrassed!

She really knows her stuff and technique. I'd been to a few voice teachers before and they were great singers, but they didn't seem to have to really KNOW the techniques behind singing. Mariana clearly is a wonderful singer and has great training in what she does.

I specialize in classical and operatic repertoire. I've always felt the need to express myself through song and I love to help others feel comfortable to sing whatever it is that inspires them. Whether you are singing for fun or working toward a professional career in music, I will help you establish and achieve realistic goals that will leave you feeling fulfilled, energized, and confident, all in a safe and comfortable environment.

About Kelley
**My schedule changes weekly, so if you don't see a time that works, please send me a message and we may be able to find something!**

Whether you've never had a voice lesson in your life, are looking for fine tuning, or are just curious, I'd love to help you set and achieve your goals! I've studied classical voice for over 17 years, and started teaching about six years ago. I focus on breath control, relieving body tension and any hindrance to beautiful and free sound, diction, and interpretation. I speak French, some Italian, a little German, and can also help with Czech and Russian diction.

My goal for students is that they develop the healthy, efficient, and reliable ability to express themselves through music in a safe and fun environment. I've studied with some of the finest pedagogues in the world, and am comfortable teaching
students at any stage in their musical development.

***Lesson Details***
For beginners, I like to focus on music fundamentals, including theory and aural skills, and building a solid foundation of breath management. For more advanced students, the focus will be refinement and fine tuning--whether it be working on dramatic interpretation, freeing up the sound and any tension in the body, performance anxiety, or languages. We can work on operatic, song, musical theater, and jazz repertoire, languages and diction, dramatic interpretation, and performance skills.

I believe very strongly in singing repertoire appropriate for your age and level, and will not do anything to compromise your development.

Learning to sing requires a great deal of hard work and commitment. Each lesson, I will leave the student with specific exercises and pieces to practice before the next lesson. New exercises may pose challenges, but that's part of the process! If you are struggling with a particular assignment, please do not hesitate to communicate with me, and I will guide you through it, or find an alternative to help you achieve the same goal.

We are all different, and so have different learning styles. Singing lessons should be therapeutic, gratifying, and above all fun! I don't ever want singing to turn into a chore or something you don't enjoy. This should be fun!

***Travel Equipment***
Student should have either a piano or keyboard. A CD player, mirror, and yoga mat are a plus.

***Skype Equipment***
Computer with high-speed internet. I can supply electronic files for sheet music and accompanied tracks.

***More about me***
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Kelley is a qualified pedagogue who exhibits that all too rare balance of consummate professionalism with a friendly personal touch. She teaches a healthy vocal technique, based on current science and traditional methods, always keeping an eye on the artistic and expressive goal. While some teachers just work on your voice, Kelley also coaches the student as they work to integrate their ideas into a musical/dramatic presentation. Kelley has trained with some of the best teachers in the United States and has a wide knowledge of repertoire both in the classical and Broadway/cabaret genres. Her extensive language skills also make her a great resource for students studying the classical repertoire specifically. I do not recommend voice teachers unless I trust their knowledge and professional demeanor implicitly.

I'm currently an Assistant Professor of Voice working in a school of music at a famous university in a major US city. Over the years, I have sent a variety of my students to work with Kelley, from ages 14-60. Across the board, they all have had a rewarding and fun experience, making significant progress both technically and in their self-confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend Kelley to anyone looking for a voice teacher.

I am a classically trained vocalist that also grew up singing country music as a child. I have a plethora of experience as a music teacher and performer, and hold a BA in Music Performance from the University of Portland and am currently making all my money in the arts. I believe that voice lessons are a beautiful experience that helps us come out of our shell and have less fear in our lives, whether onstage or not. I also believe that anyone can use their voice to its fullest potential with some training. With me you will get honesty, kindness, enthusiasm, and knowledge. I hope I get to meet you!

About Taylor
Hello!

My name is Taylor Kendig, I am a passionate music teacher who specializes in teaching intro level music theory classes and private voice lessons. I recently received my Bachelor of Arts in music performance from the University of Portland, where I met my own amazing voice instructor Dr. Nicole Hanig, who I still train with to this day. I have over two years of teaching experience, as a private voice and beginning piano instructor with various organizations. This last summer I served on the faculty at Oregon Music Academy for three months, where I taught private voice lessons and group classes for pre-schoolers. I currently am the music director for St. Cyril parish in Wilsonville, and I am a substitute teacher with various organizations in Oregon and Washington, including Vancouver Music Academy. I am a local professional pe
rformer, who has appeared onstage with local companies in Oregon and has performed all over the world as a young artist, including with opera festivals in Italy, Florida, and Canada. I am an opera and musical theater artist that also has a background and strong love for contemporary music- particularly rock and country/bluegrass. I love working with voices and encouraging my students to rejoice in their own authenticity as a performer. I strongly believe that music lessons should be an opportunity to also grow as a person, and increase a persons level of confidence in themselves. I work hard to maintain a positive and safe creative environment while teaching. I am also trained in the call to protect program, which allows me to have the knowledge to maintain an especially safe environment for children. I have a lot of experience working with kids as well, from serving in various leadership positions with local churches and children's arts programs, to having two wonderful little sisters at home. I would be so excited to meet you and to be allowed into your individual artistic journey. Let me know when you would like to get started!!

I am a experienced teacher (2 years of piano and voice) and coach (7 years coaching acting) ready to help beginner/intermediate voice students get their basics down in an exciting way! All ages are welcome as we explore the most difficult, unique, and awe-inspiring instrument: the voice!

Musical theater has been my passion and joy since I was a kid, belting along to my favorite divas (Heather Headley, Idina Menzel, and Bernadette Peters). For your voice, I want to give you the confidence and ability to sing anything from the backbone of technique. We'll go through excellent warm-up techniques, how to free your voice with alignment, and letting expression guide us. If your interests lie in opera and/or musical theater, we'll select repertoire based on roles and develop the whole picture, including assembling an audition book (my specialty).

Whatever your wants are, we can achieve them through the foundation of basic theory, music history (including with contemporary pieces), ...

About Laila
I am a professional singer, Shakespeare actor, and pianist that graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Music degree (which I attended on a full ride scholarship) where voice was my primary instrument and piano was my secondary. Currently, I am the assistant music director and alto section leader at a church while I pick up freelance gigs.

For you, I think the excitement and wonder in music all lie in finding deeper pieces of you. Instead of sticking only to classics, I encourage branching out of type and into the root of all the depth you can play, both on stage and on the bench.

Vocal styles: Broadway (specialty in assembling a "book" for auditions as well as audition prep); Classical/Opera (from art song to aria selection); Contemporary (I love me some Adele). We can achieve these styles through a foundation of
breathing and technical exercises that will help you leap forward!

Piano styles: Classical, Baroque, Romantic (so many immortal composers have so many gems to explore!); Contemporary/Chords (for the rocker inside or for someone looking to gig). From improv to flying along the keys, we'll get there through a couple of technique books that are interesting (instead of dry scales) as well as practicing tips and tricks I have from over sixteen years of classical piano playing.

Classical/Opera/Rock/Metal.
10 years teaching experience, 25 years performance experience in both theatrical stage productions and playing in live bands.
New students learn fundamentals of singing based on the teachings of the great Italian pedagogues. All lesson plans are custom designed to fit the individual student's needs. Apart from Introduction to Voice, an invaluable course for all new singers (including breath control and support, vocal anatomy, diction and ear training with a focus on vocal health and longevity) I offer a Beginner - Intermediate Classical Vocal Technique class and an Advanced Rock, Metal and Scream Techniques class. If you're looking to start singing, are interested in improving the quality and tone of your voice or want to learn how to scream like a banshee or growl like an ogre and still have a voice the next day, let's get in touch and get you started on your way!

About Quinton
I was born into a musical family. Both of my parents are successful, international opera soloists; Jake Gardner and Cynthia Clarey, please feel free to google them. I grew up in the performance lifestyle and by age 10 had already seen countless productions of a myriad of classical and opera pieces. My parents are also responsible for the majority of my voice training, which I began to focus on when I started singing in heavy rock bands which required the ability for me to scream and growl for long periods of time without damaging my voice. It is because of this that I have so much faith in my teaching process: I am living proof that you can create all kinds of abrasive sounds with your voice and still be able to sing, even in tandem with this less conventional styles of vocal performance. In the interim I have ended up performing o
peratic roles both in concert and full-on productions. I have performed in various groups in Germany, the UK and on the East Coast, but most notably with Portland heavy metal act "Only Zuul" with whom i wrote and performed for 9 years, performing with groups such as Origin, Cattle Decapitation and Deicide to name a few. In addition to these experiences I have created a vast network within the Portland underground music scene including performers, booking agents, venue managers, photographers, videographers, visual artists and of course fans. My studio also shares space with Bridge City Sessions, a Portland based Audio/Video recording studio and is surrounded by other art, music and music related studios spaces, making for a rich and welcoming artist community.
