I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). This is a 'Team Effort'; I give the guidance and tools. You practice, utilize learn these tools, and off we go! The sky is the limit!

One of my favorite instruments to teach-- I often say that my specialty is convincing people that they should play double reed instruments! Generally seen as more of a challenge, double reeds like the oboe can be frustrating for beginners, but don't worry-- I can guide you through any troubles and help you learn this beautiful instrument.

About Cory
I am a classically trained bassoonist with a Master's degree from London's Royal College of Music. I love finding each student's own learning style to tailor the experience, and I encourage my students to make their own decisions about musical expression (with plenty of guidance, of course!).

In my work as a performer I have played with orchestras all over the world, from the South London Sinfonia to the Bombay Chamber Orchestra. My musical life is full of variety, and I think that the experiences I've had as a musician make me a creative and thoughtful teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
I wouldn't call myself strict, but I do have high standards. I expect my students to put in the work at home, so that we can get the most out of lesson time, but I think that my expectations are realistic. After all, we all have busy lives, and even
if you haven't had time to prepare we can always have a productive lesson.

We will learn simple tunes in the very first lesson, and I will always balance technical exercises with fun. (Though I do think a lot of exercises are fun too!) After a few months we will have a solid foundation of music theory and will have developed your music reading abilities considerably. We will have worked on a great technical foundation of scales and exercises, so that your fingers won't fail you. We will also be delving in to longer and more complex tunes, and considering the possibility of some form of casual public or in-home performance, for you to show your family and friends what you've learned!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instruments and music.

Rina is a fabulous instructor. My son originally contacted Rina after researching piano teachers in our area. She came highly recommended and as a result he gave me a gift of five piano lessons to start. I became hooked; I've been with Rina for well over a year now and thoroughly enjoy learning. Her background in music is broad and she is creative in her approach to teaching.
The experience has been extremely rewarding for me and I look forward to continuing my journey into piano with Rina for many sessions to come.

Very detail driven lesson to insure growth and success in music. Having fun is always key!

About Garrett
My name is Garrett. I am originally from Southern California where I grew up constantly around music. My mother being a pianist, I started at a young age. After a few years and a few different instruments, I fell in love with the Oboe. I was fortunate to have great teachers through middle school and high school and I ended up making my way to college on a Music Scholarship. Studying mainly classical music, I did have my chances to explore various genres and perform all over California as well as various cities in the US. I am very passionate and love to teach. I look forward to the possibility of teaching/coaching young or old musicians here in California.

Do not be afraid to start as a beginner on the oboe! Double reed playing is quite literally as old as the hills, and one of my specialties is historical double reed instruments. While teaching the Woodwind Methods class at Northwest Nazarene University, I gave modern oboe and bassoon as much attention as flute, clarinet, and saxophone, and the students thrived, never learning to fear the instruments, as is usually the case in university courses of this type. If you love the sound half as much as I do, you may have just found your musical voice, so let's get started!

About Aage
Oregon native Aage (pronounced like Owen without N) has been teaching woodwinds to students of all ages for thirty years. He has performed throughout the US and Denmark, as well as Iceland (International Viola Congress) and Holland (World Bass Clarinet Conference). He taught for many years at The College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University, and performed for over twenty years with the Boise Philharmonic and Darkwood Consort. He has released three CDs on Portland-based Rampur Records, received a 2007 Performing Arts Fellowship from the Idaho Commission on the Arts, and is the leading scholar and performer of the douçaine (early oboe). He teaches both modern and historical winds, with the unique twist of encouraging students of both modern instruments such as clarinet or saxophone, and early instruments such as recorder and double-re
eds, to engage in everything from medieval and traditional music to jazz and classical.

Aage enjoys teaching students of all ages, from beginning to college level, including homeschoolers and adult beginners.

He was able to foster my love of music while still giving me the skills I needed to win the Idaho State Solo Championship in 2007. I was also exposed to music written long before the clarinet was created and with his encouragement, participated in numerous honor groups and music related community service.

I have taken oboe lessons myself for six years from many different teachers. I have been able to compile the best attributes of each of my teachers to make me the best teacher possible. Throughout middle school and high school, I was continually the top player in my section. I participated in many other ensembles outside of school, including regional band/orchestra and the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra. My senior year of high school, I was awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award for exemplifying superior musicianship and leadership. I only teach beginner/novice players at the moment, so I am able to focus solely on how best to help beginners progress and reach specific goals that will take them to the next level in their musicianship.

About Sophie
I have always loved making music. Every chance I've gotten, I've been involved in an ensemble, or many ensembles. During marching band season in high school, since oboes can't march, I was on the color guard. This allowed me to obtain a lot of leadership and teaching experience. The way you teach music is similar to the way you teach and practice a color guard/dance routine. I've also had many great mentors that helped me learn the best ways to practice and how to teach someone else how to practice; tools that I pass to my students.
When I started college, I was a music major in the oboe studio. However, I ultimately determined that my greatest passion was helping people pursue a healthy life, but music is still very dear to me. I am now majoring in integrative health at Arizona State University, but I practice with and perform in the co
ncert band on campus. I've always had a passion for helping others learn more about and gain a greater appreciating for music. I firmly believe that listening to and making music possesses healing qualities and I love for my students to find that for themselves.
