I teach from the earliest beginner through adult. My violin students are currently performing for different schools and ensembles. When students are performing with orchestras, much time is spent working on that music as well as their regular music.

About Diane
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.

Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.

*** Lesson Details ***
I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras.

I am a fiddler and vocalist for internationally-touring and award-winning folk groups, Tullamore and Brackish Water Jamboree. In addition to my performance schedule, I am also honored to play first violin for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic. I run a thriving online teaching studio, which has been kicking since 2003, after earning my degree in violin performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. I teach traditional classical, using either Suzuki or Essential Elements, depending on your learning and self-motivational needs, and I also teach fiddle music, including Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and alternative styles. **NEW STUDENT SPECIAL!** I have just shifted my studio to online only, and I have studio times available, and I am excited to meet new students! From now through ...

About Rachel
If you are ready to take on music lessons, your life will never be the same. Music enriches our minds and lives in many ways, including expanding our expectations past what we think is possible for ourselves! I've taught hundreds of students over the past 15 years, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing. I've been described by students as encouraging and fun, and my teaching style is warm, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... It's what I love about what I do.

I began my violin studies at age 9, with my humble public school string program
. I continued through high school and into college, playing and singing with auditioned district ensembles, school musicals, and chamber choirs, coming in as runner up in my high school's concerto competition, and performing twice in Carnegie Hall. I studied opera, vocal pedagogy, and passed my piano proficiency exam from the advanced class.

In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and soon after, joined the Kansas City-based Celtic folk group, Tullamore. I have enjoyed 13 seasons with this lauded regional group, playing countless esteemed Celtic festivals across the country and embarking on five international tours of Ireland and Scotland, as well as a Caribbean cruise hosted for our fans. Our sixth international tour is scheduled for 2019 in Scotland.

In 2014, I relocated to Hampton, Virginia, where I auditioned for the Hampton Roads Philharmonic, and currently play as a first violinist.

In 2015, I began playing with Brackish Water Jamboree, an award-winning Americana band, featured on NPR's Out of the Box series with Paul Shugrue, and host of the NorFOLK Festival.

Throughout this time, I have enjoyed teaching a full and enriching music studio of students: hosting recitals, open mics, and ensemble rehearsals, and watching students achieve goals they didn't know were even possible. I continue to teach online via Skype, FaceTime, and Google Hangouts, and I look forward to working with you to accomplish your own musical aspirations!

Having many years of experience in performance and having reached a very high level of playing for myself, I am confident in my ability to teach students a beginning to an advanced level.
For younger students, I would insist that the parents are present and active in the learning process. This is paramount for realizing your child's potential. Playing instruments, stringed instruments in particular, is a very meticulous affair.
If possible, I prefer to teach for an hour at a time. I will likely be spending a lot of time on technique. This is an area in which most are deficient, and will greatly limit the player's expressive capabilities.
I am demanding and very thorough, but also seek to temper this with encouragement on whatever the student is doing well. There are always things we are improving on as well as lacking in. We must hold ourselves to a very high standard while also realizing that we have come a long way from where we started.
If a student has the most basic aspects ...

About Tobiah
I have been teaching since I was in my Master's program. Mostly, I taught with an inner city outreach in Kansas City. I had three students who were doing quite well. I gave supplementary lessons to a couple of other local high school students, both of whom were playing at a very advanced level. I guided them with their preparation and practicing process, as well as helped them when they were making audition recordings for music schools in university. One of them is at the Jacobs School at Indiana University, and the other is studying at my alma mater, the Cleveland Institute of Music.
I also had a private student who I would teach for two hours a week who drove up from Arkansas. She was half-way through high school. I worked with her on Mozart's Violin Concerto no. 5, and she won second place in her youth orchestra's concerto competition.

Experienced teacher of 10 years, specializing in the beginner/intermediate violin student! All ages and disabilities are welcome to take lessons. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Not only will you be playing songs in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. I can teach all types of different genres, help students prepare for college auditions, and help with competitions and youth orchestra auditions. Let's get started!

About Tia
I started the violin when I was 8 years old at my hometown elementary school. I grew up in a very artsy town, which provided me the opportunities to learn music from around the world. These are a few reason why I love to collaborate with other musicians, create youtube videos, play different genres and mixes of various genres, writing my own pieces, traveling, and teaching others the love of music.

As I live in the Washington D.C. Metro area, scheduling/travel is flexible for me and easy to coordinate around my students' schedules. If there is a preferred lesson for your child not listed as "available" please feel free to inquire directly - we will find a time that works!

Violin students can expect to improve week to week in their technique. Every student learns uniquely; I teach students mindfulness and correct instrument techniques,
and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to play with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach beginner piano students of all different ages. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

My passion is music and I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style when learning an instrument. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
