About Joel
Joel J. took his first guitar lesson in September 1980. A lifelong student and teacher of guitar and improvisation, Joel began playing in bands at age 14. Seeking a higher awareness of guitar, he left school at U-Michigan to study at Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA. While there, he received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1997 he received his B.M.S. in Professional Music with a concentration in Private Instruction and Studio Arranging from Berklee. No stranger to the industry, Joel has recorded 3 CD's with rock bands Michigan and Color Phobos as primary composer and lead guitarist. Joel is former owner of The Great Hall Restaurant and Music Room where raw live performances occurred every night. He currently plays with Portland area blues-rock band The Fabulous Badcats, and co-hosts an open jam e
very week in SE Portland. Embark upon a discovery of music born in the fires of your own passion as Joel will lead you through a course of study based entirely upon your goals and desires for your relationship with the guitar. with a vivid memory of studying guitar as an eight year old, Joel teaches all ages with patience and understanding.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons with Joel are like Choose Your Own Adventure stories. The curriculum is based on the Performance programs of Berklee College and Musician's Institute, with supplements by Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and including the music of YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST. We will navigate through a rigorous study of the instrument, including metronome study, sight-reading and notation, ear training and everything else. But once we cover the basics, the course will take the direction of your interests and what is fueling your fire. Keeping true to what motivates you will keep the lessons interesting even when the commitment becomes difficult..and it will..but as you may already know, nothing worth having is easily achieved. Come take a deep look at the most popular and versatile instrument of the modern age, and master your own style of guitar playing with a teacher whose own commitment to music education is absolute.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio room in private home- with piano, electric and acoustic guitars and equipment, on-screen learning; chairs, piano bench, room for parents to observe lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide music stand and curriculum. I expect the student to provide pencil, notebook with lined paper, music paper, metronome and instrument. I do have instruments available for rental

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock and blues improvisation, and beginning to advanced music theory.

My first lesson went really well. I wanted to learn music theory as well as learn how to play.
Very knowledgeable and teaches in a way that is easy to understand.
I walked away from the first lesson with more than one 'ah-ha' moment and am excited to learn more.

I am friendly and like to inspire my students to find their own best potential. Suitable challenges are fun and needed to keep the personal progress going on. "No suffering in my studio!" means that the process of learning needs to be enjoyabl

I teach both classical and Suzuki methods. I like to keep my students musically well fed and encourage exploring music reading and music theory next to practical skills. I stir my students toward high standard personal level in their studies, an ingredient from Finnish cultural climate.

I have taught myself a couple of instruments but decided I wanted an instructor to learn cello. I've learned SO MUCH from Elisa, she's helped me understand parts of music that had never "clicked" with me despite 6 years of band in middle and high school.

I highly recommend Elisa!

I just completed my first lesson with Elisa. I felt so good at the end of the lesson. As an adult learner, I am often uncomfortable with my beginner skill levels and end up feeling embarrassed and apologetic when working with a teacher (silly I know). But she did not make me feel this way at all.

She quickly assessed where I was with my playing and identified quick and easy technical practices to enhance my technique as well as took in my own personal goals. I feel super motivated to practice and look forward to my next lesson with her. I'm so glad I found her!

About Elisa
Hello!

I love to teach and I have devoted my life to obtaining the highest music education possible. Learning to play an instrument is fun but it is also challenging. My lessons consist of technique and general music training that include aural skills and music theory. My lessons are a lot of fun because I have high standards, but also maintain a light hearted atmosphere. I teach violin and viola from beginning to advanced levels. My students have ranged in age from 3 to 65 years old and I feel that I can teach students at any age.

If you want to include learning to play the violin or viola in your life then I would be a great choice for a teacher. Thank you. Elisa

My daughter started taking violin lessons with Elisa in January of 2014. She is by far the best music teacher that we've had! Elisa is very challenging but makes learning and playing fun. My 8 year old daughter has made leaps and bounds in music and can now read music after only a short 8 months of playing. My daughters bow hold and tone quality are absolutely excellent and it's because of Elisa! I would definitely recommend her as a teacher. You will not be disappointed.

Elisa is a very responsible, skillful, and sweet teacher

Before Elisa moved to Ventura, CA, she was a master student and taught in IP piano school and Kwong Kow Chinese School in Boston, MA. My daughter, Sarina, was one of her students. My daughter loves her so much and made good progress when Elisa was teaching her. Elisa made Sarina relax and comfortable so that she was enjoying the learning process; she emphasized on skill and poses, she tried hard to help the students to get to the best they could. She is reliable as you can talk with her about the timing change and make up lessions. She came to our house to say goodbye and hug Sarina before she left. She is a great teacher that you can count on and you will enjoy her teaching.

About Viola Rose
Hi there. my name is Viola. I am 49 years old. I have been playing Handpan (hangdrum) for 6 years. I have played hand drums and percussion instruments for 26 years. and am now offering handpan, hangdrum Ravdrum and hand drum lessons for beginning and intermediate players. for online lessons you would need to have your own handpan or drum . but for in-person lessons in Beaverton Oregon, you would NOT need to have your own handpan or hand drums as you can use mine. I am joyful and super inspired by the Handpan and playing drums.
I also offer vocal training for those wanting to "find their voice" and to learn to sing from their heart center and embody their voice. this is a very non-traditional style of vocal coaching, its more intuitive and heart based. I have been singing my whole life in solo projects and in Bands. you can find my
CD "veils of Twilight" online

My 9-year old son recently started taking lessons with Adam. I had to find a new instructor after his previous instructor move out of the area. I'm really happy that we found Adam. He's a great guy and as an instructor he's very patient and brings a plan to each lesson. He splits the lesson among exercises to build limb independence, practice with metronome to develop consistent timing, and playing along songs (picked with input from my son). Adam also makes it easy to schedule lessons based on our needs and is very responsive via email and phone/text.

I hadn't had a music lesson in about 35 years, so I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I had bought a drum set for kicks and was screwing around a bit but hadn't really focused on much of anything and was pretty much treading water. Incremental improvement but nothing to write home about.

I've found that Adam is ready to meet you at your level and he has got me working on some basics (a reminder of just how sloppy my playing was/is) and I (think) I'm improving pretty rapidly and am starting to recognize things I hadn't noticed before. If there's an issue, it has been my erratic practice schedule. He has also been really flexible with respect to schedule, lesson length etc. - important for someone like myself who is works and has kids with their own busy schedules.

I'm completely new to the drums and decided to do a trial lesson with Adam several months ago. The lessons are fun and informative, and I have improved so much since I started lessons with Adam. He does a great job of starting good drumming habits, and building off of basics so that you can be a well-rounded drummer. He is a great teacher, combining his expertise with what you as a student want to learn so that it's fun and interesting. Highly recommended for both beginners and drummers with experience looking to improve!

About Jered
Hello!

Whether you want to learn a few songs, improve your chops or all-out shred, your lessons are designed to get your playing where you want it to be. Your lesson plan will be custom-tailored to your ability and geared toward your goals as a guitarist.

In addition to private lessons, I am currently a guitar/bass instructor at Oregon Music Academy with students of all ages and skill levels.

I have over 20 years of guitar-playing under my belt, 10 years teaching experience and a B.A. in Music to boot! I played guitar in a bunch of bands and currently play bass in Light Creates Shadow, a rock band here in Portland, OR. I love music of all styles and am passionate about passing along my music knowledge to my students.

Your lesson plan (Roadmap) will include the following:

Technique - You will learn proper playing technique
to ensure accurate playing as well as an injury-free career.

The Fretboard - Learn notes, scales, arpeggios and know your way around your instrument.

Harmony - Learn how to play chords, how to write music using chords, chord inversions and more.

Musicianship - Music theory, improvisation, songwriting, sight-reading, and everything an aspiring guitarist needs.

Progress Reports (Checkpoints) - Don't worry, this isn't a report card! This is just a check in every so often to remind us how far we have come and where we want to go from here.

My teaching style is based on the following core values:

Encouragement
Motivation
Achievable Goals
Patience
Passion
Engagement
FUN!!!

Your success as a musician is my main priority and I will do my absolute best to guide you along your path.

Shoot me a message and we can get started immediately :)

I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in percussion performance from California State University Northridge. During my time there, I was the principal percussionist of the wind ensemble for four consecutive years and played in many orchestras in the Los Angeles area. One of the highlights of my career was playing a concert with the CSUN Orchestra and Serj Tankian, the lead singer of the famous rock band System of a Down. I have been teaching drumline at my old high school since I was a junior in college and since then, I have taught drum set and percussion to several private students with one of those students getting accepted as a music education major at UCLA. I approach each student differently depending on their personality and I try to connect with my students as best as I can in order to teach them in the way that they will learn
best. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to teaching any subject because each person has different strengths and different weaknesses. I also believe strongly in developing motivation in my students because I want to give them the ability to eventually teach themselves when they stop studying with me.
