Jon E.

Reno, NV

About Jon

I began teaching when a friend/teacher recommended me as a substitute teacher at Musicians Institute in L.A.. I walked into the class with no prior teaching experience but just took to it naturally from day one. Soon I was teaching there full time. I later learned that I come from a long line of teachers, it runs in the family. I think of teaching basically as this, recognizing a students needs and goals and then communicating with them clearly and simply in order to accomplish those goals. I enjoy teaching and often learn from my students in unforeseen ways. I consider my students to be
friends.

Emily L.

Camino, CA

About Emily

I have been taking music lessons since I was five. It brought so much joy to my family and I grew to have a passion for instruments and the beautiful noise that they bring.

I started teaching lessons in 2002, and in 2010 I became a teacher at Boys and Girls Club. I taught any musical instrument the kids could bring from school along with theory lessons. I believe that through musical theory and composition kids get a chance to not just play any instrument but also understand how the music is made and why certain symbols mean different things. They learn to read music and understand it, whi
ch has always brought my students great excitement when they can read music better than anyone in their bands and be the first to raise their hand.

I prefer to teach through what the student is interested in and learn through encouragement. I had one of the best music teachers who always knew how to bring the best out of a student and bring out their talent, I continue to strive to do the same with my students today.

I always put on a Spring and or Christmas Recital for my students. It gives the students as well as the parents a chance to show off everything they've learned that year and enjoy the talents of all the students who participate.

I hope to hear from you soon for a lesson!!!

Maureen K.

Sparks, NV

About Maureen

Maureen has been teaching private voice and piano lessons since 2009 and is currently available to travel to students' homes to teach lessons. Maureen received her B.A. from Pepperdine University in 2013, with an Applied Music emphasis in classical vocal performance. Her teaching style is tailored for each individual student, in that what works for one student won't necessarily work for the next (particularly in regards to singers), a
nd strives towards finding the optimal method that encourages and helps students to improve. She firmly believes that anyone who is willing to dedicate the time and effort to learning a new instrument is capable of doing so, and looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals.

About Holly

Greetings! My name is Holly and I absolutely love teaching music. I'm currently a full time elementary general music teacher where I teach all students grades k-6. I earned a Bachelor of Music Education from The Ohio State University in the spring of 2012, then moved out to Reno for my full-time teaching job. I especially love teaching beginner students on piano, trumpet, guitar and french horn. I can teach intermediate students on trumpet and horn and advanced students on horn. (French horn was my main instrument in college.) I like to make my lessons fun, creative and full of juicy musical k
nowledge. I'm quick to tell a joke and help new students feel comfortable and relaxed. I look forward to meeting you and helping you learn a new instrument!

Mark D.

South Lake Tahoe, CA

About Mark

I am a former private music teacher. I studied music theory while in college. My plan at the time was to teach music at the high school level. I have taught guitar, bass guitar, piano theory, and voice in past, privately and publicly (Douglas County School System).
I am a web developer so I plan to use the Takelessons platform as a starting point. At some point I will build an online presence to promote a private lesson business.

How to Practice Singing at Home: Setting Up Your Practice Space
Unlike most other musical instrument, your voice is something that you carry with you everywhere! This is perhaps why many beginners are less likely to consider how their practice space should be set up, and why they have more trouble with performances. Practicing singing is just like any other kind of practice, whether for music, the arts, or a sport. You have to establish a space where you can focus on what you're doing with the least number of distractions. Knowing how to practice will take
6 Piano Songs to Help You Learn Major and Minor Scales
Need to work on your major or minor scales? Piano songs abound by both classical and contemporary pianists that can help you improve your skills. Here, St. Augustine, FL Heather L. shares her recommendations...    Even as a piano teacher, I can be sympathetic to students who find themselves practicing major and minor scales over and over without any variation. Scales are often cited as the least favorite part of taking piano lessons. Sometimes, well, a lot of the time, the best wa
What's the Fastest Way to Learn Piano? You Might Be Surprised!
