I am a classically-trained pianist, and received music education in Paraguay, South America, and at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie, TX. I have also excelled at playing many styles by ear. I am fortunate to also love teaching, which allows me the incredible privile

I have 30+ years of experience teaching piano--from numerous four-year-olds to an eighty-six-year-old student. In addition to teaching students to play by note, I enjoy teaching students to play by ear. Together, we will explore many different types of music--Easy-listening, Country, Southern Gospel, Black Gospel, Blues, Latin, Contemporary, Classical, etc.

I am qualified to teach piano by note from beginner through early advanced (all ages); by ear, beginner through very advanced.

I also have experience teaching special needs students, students with physical handicaps, and students with physical limitations (Ex: Autism, delayed learning, ADD, ADHD, Multiple Sclerosis, arthritis, etc.), and feel that anyone can learn to play. We may need to slow the pace or change the technique, but I haven't found a child or an adult who couldn't learn to play piano, if they really have the desire to do so. In many cases, I've seen students who struggle in other areas of life excel in the area of music.

I have written more than 200 songs (mostly Gospel and some easy listening), with numerous ones having been recorded by various artists. Several have been arranged and published for church choirs.

Having lived in South America as a child, I am bilingual and qualified to give piano lessons in English or in Spanish.

*** Lesson Details ***
Our sessions will be laid back and comfortable, yet challenging. Humor will often find its way into our sessions. I am patient with my students, while helping them master new songs or techniques. I understand that every student learns in a way that is unique to them, and I will do my best to discover each student's learning method. I do not expect perfection, but I do strive for excellence. I believe every student should work to be the best pianist they can possibly be, while having fun doing so!

I believe it is important for students to have a strong foundation of learning to read notes--so much so, that I will not teach a young student to play by ear, who is is not willing to learn to play by note as well.

Adults who have never had piano lessons are encouraged to learn to play by note as well, and will be given the opportunity to learn to play by ear if they desire. Adults who have a good knowledge of reading music will truly enjoy learning to play many styles by ear, and learning how to improvise (adding extra elements to written music).

Each lesson will conclude with an assignment of songs given to work on throughout the week--usually 2-3 songs for 30-minute lessons, and 4-5 songs for an hour-long lesson. These will be the same songs we have worked on during the lesson time, so you will go home with the knowledge you need to master each song. Music theory sheets and technique exercises will also be included in the assignments.

Daily practice is strongly urged, in order for the student to progress. If a student doesn't practice, they won't progress. If they don't progress, they will become bored. It's a very short path from boredom to quitting. That's a tragedy that can very easily be avoided, by making a commitment to practice 5-6 days a week. The amount of recommended practice times varies according to age and level of skill.

Students will showcase what they have learned at a yearly recital, the second Saturday in December. I also encourage students to share their talent in community and school talent shows, at church, at family gatherings, and for friends. In just a few weeks you'll be playing songs that others will recognize!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are taught in the fellowship hall of our church, First Assembly of God, on a studio piano. There is comfortable seating just steps away in the foyer of the church, and padded chairs set up around tables in the fellowship hall for parents who wish to stay in the room and observe a lesson. The yearly piano recital is conducted in the sanctuary of the church, and students will enjoy playing my 5'9" grand piano for the recital.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I purchase the necessary books and lesson binder, and the student reimburses me. I provide weekly lesson sheets for the lesson binder. Every student needs to have a piano or keyboard, plenty of good lighting, and a reasonably quiet room.

Mrs. Moss has taught all three of our children, who are of various ages and various abilities/styles of learning. Each child has enjoyed working with her! Mrs. Moss approaches teaching with a loving heart and a desire to share the gift of music with her students. She uses a mix of teaching by note and by ear, using various styles of music. I especially like the fact that, in addition to assigning pieces, she encourages students to learn pieces of their choosing. She communicates expectations very clearly with students and parents, which is much appreciated.

My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In addition, I have taken masterclasses w/ many professional guitarists in all styles such as the flamenco guitarist Miguel Antonio.

I am familiar with all styles of guitar from fingerpicking to Bebop/Swing. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to
become a consummate professional.

I teach beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric guitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, DADGAD and other alternate tunings, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas, Paco de Lucia, Pat Martino, and Davey Graham.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, and SRV to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulk of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Vo-96, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also, the sonic language of music.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

les that may seem too hard to the student. I will start my students off with the basic vocal warm ups and then move on to material that they would like to cover and if so the student doesn't have material to cover, I will present them with material. Being a singer is not easy at all, so I will challenge my students by giving exercises that challenge them to sing for proficient. I will also bring in material that is brand new and ask the students questions about the piece. The student is in the lesson to learn everything about music, so any type of material that I feel will benefit them and help them move closer to their goal, I will definitely present to them. After 3 to 6 months students will be able to sing in the 3 minor keys and the major key. The student will also have knowledge and know how to sing at least 3 different modes. The singer will know how to read basic sheet music and perform it with solfege. The singer will also have 4 songs of my choice or their choice mastered and ready to perform in front of an audience. Lastly, the singer will have knowledge of proper breath control while performing, usage of a microphone, and intonation.

I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either notated or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study. Lessons are a minimum of 60 minutes once per week.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

Troy is a really patient instructor. I started these lessons as an adult with no prior musical training. I am enjoying the lessons and despite the fact that I never quite have enough time to practice as I should, sometimes even only having the lesson time with him, I still feel I made some progress. I also enjoy the discussions we have on music theory. I am trained as a scientist and when I read theory I have parse it through my own way of thinking about things. I find that Troy is a really good teacher and able to communicate in a manner that is easy to understand. I highly recommend him!

Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

I would think the first lesson is always the hardest to start since as an instructor you don’t know what skill level you will be teaching. Trevor started the class asking what I wanted to accomplish and ended with lots of practice lessons for me to complete. Looking forward to more classes with him.

Hello! My name is Todd. I've been playing music for most of my life. My first instrument was a keyboard when I was about ten years old but I moved over to electric guitar as a teenager and stayed with it since. I recently graduated from Webster University with a BA in music after receiving an AA in guitar performance at SWIC. In college I learned everything from group theory to conducting as well as playing in guitar ensemble, jazz ensemble and so on. After music school, I went through a computer coding program at LaunchCode where I learned python and java and built my own application for booking bands. Over the years I have played in a handful of bands in the St. Louis music scene but in January I moved to Portland, OR and am hoping to meet some friendly people here. I wanted to learn guitar, but I knew absolutely nothing about it. After weeks of failed self-teaching I decided to get a tutor. Best move I ever made and better yet, I stumbled upon Todd. Not only is he extremely talented, but he knows his music theory. Every week he would blow my mind with something new and I actually looked forward to the next week's lesson. Todd taught my daughters, aged 9 and 7 guitar and piano, respectively. I can easily say that Todd is the best thing in music my daughters could have asked for! He was patient with them, let them learn at their pace and was an awesome teacher. Most of, my daughters learnt to love and appreciate music.

I am a guitarist myself and I can safely say Todd is a great teacher and he has set them up for learning music and so much more for the rest of their lives. We would have continued the lessons had he not moved to another city.

I am a fan of a wide variety of music. I am especially fond of music that provides a structure for improvisation and the unexpected results that can arise when musicians allow themselves to explore their instruments without the restrictions that typically more formulaic styles impose. However, I also enjoy music that is incredibly orchestrated and requires exact mechanics and pristine technique. Most of all, I need music to feel generous toward the listener or I lose interest very quickly. Music is a gift. It can change your life if you let it. If you are adventurous and willing to challenge yourself you can find all the treasures of the universe in the mastery of an instrument. Did I mention its a lot of fun? Joel & I were co workers at Leaches Music. Joel was guitar teacher, teaching both children & adults. Joel did all things a good guitar teacher does. Teach, inspire & let students know when they do well.

Joel is a great teacher, and has really helped me learn a lot about the guitar. He is very patient and thorough. I never feel rushed or like I'm not learning fast enough. He is not about memorizing songs/riffs, but is all about getting you to develop your own relationship with the guitar and 'listen'. A great experience overall!

Writing music can be one of the hardest things to do, but it can also be the most rewarding. Writing music is my passion. I have developed a curriculum designed to break down the process of writing music through a theoretical, conceptual and creative approach. I believe creativity is something that can be taught. Like any type of music, it is a skill that when practiced the right way, can improve. I can teach composition of any genre of music from singer-songwriter music, to rock/pop to advanced modern jazz. Together we will work to help you write your own songs and unlock the creativity you have in you.

About Pablo
With years of teaching and gigging experience in a wide variety of musical styles, I can teach students whatever they are interested in learning. I believe the most musical improvement occurs when the student is having fun with the process of learning. My lessons are a fun and relaxed environment where my students will learn about music as a whole while we talk about the specific subjects the student is interested in. I primarily teach trumpet and songwriting.

Trumpet students can expect noticeable improvement from week to week through my unique teaching approach. Anyone can tell you to practice scales out of method books, but my teaching incorporates a theoretical foundation helping my students understand music as a whole. In my own experience, this has helped me the most in my own trumpet playing.

Songwriting students can expect t
o have their own songs written from month to month as we work to demystify the difficulty of song writing. I have developed my own unique approach to songwriting designed to make the process easy and methodical.

I graduated from Whitman College in 2015 with a degree in Jazz Studies. By that time, I was already teaching and actively gigging in the Eastern Washington area. This year I moved to Portland Oregon where I currently reside and am an active member of Portland's music scene. I have performed in large jazz ensembles, symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, ska bands, salsa groups, and jazz combos.

I will be releasing my debut studio album this year comprised entirely of my own compositions that I have been working on for three years.

My other interests include weight lifting, running, hiking, and cooking.
