Ukulele can be a great first instrument for young music lovers! Perfect for little hands, the ukulele gives students the opportunity to practice playing a string instrument! Kids will be learning chords from their first lesson and may be surprised to find out how many popular songs can be played on a ukulele! I am a laid back and fun teacher and kids can learn in a low-pressure environment with lots of encouragement and support from me! *Group lessons available by request*

I teach using many of the standard tunes as well as any of your favorites. The ukulele is a neat instrument to play and it seems to fit in most anywhere. Let's head back to that little grass shack in Kealakekua, Hawai'i and have a little fun.

I especially enjoy introducing beginners of all ages to the ukulele, which was my first musical passion as a young child! These days, my passion is working with my students in ways that prepare them to pursue their musical interests armed with correct posture and hand position, foundational technique, music-reading capabilities, and what I call the "building blocks" of music: knowledge of functional music theory and how to use it.
"Functional music theory" can sound daunting, but in fact it is fascinating, at least the way I teach it, using analogies appropriate to the age of the student, from chords like different types of sandwiches (yum!) to chord progressions like the materials and equipment used to build a house.
I also encourage my students from the start to EXPRESS themselves musically, emotionally, playfully, in ways that keep their imaginations engaged in their musical studies, rather than private lessons becoming stressful or tedious.

About Teresa
A musician since age 4, Teresa's dad took her early passion for music seriously. So she respects the power that parents have to foster their children's musical lives! She notes the many stories she has heard over the years: "If someone had just supported my interest"... "If my teacher had listened

For kids and adults, any level welcome! I've noticed that especially for young children ukulele is a good transitional instrument in order to then start guitar. I use fun exercise and songs to teach technique and I welcome any style and any songs you may want to learn!

I've been taking ukulele lessons with Chuck for over a year now. I am always impressed with his musical knowledge and appreciate the way he goes beyond the songs and also teachers me musical notation, chord progressions, and more. My lessons are always fun, with just the right amount of challenge to keep my skill development moving forward. Thanks, Chuck!"
