Instilling and nurturing a love of music and developing musicianship are why I’m a voice teacher. I earned my Master of Music Education degree in 2012 from Boston University, which has furthered my love of teaching and given me even more resources to draw from.

With all my students, I emphasize good technique. No matter what genre of music or age of student, singing in a healthful and fun way includes great posture, breath management, and producing a free and easy sound. I believe that each student has their own unique way of learning, so I tailor my lessons to fit. Students are both encouraged to sing music they're familiar with and to try something new. Immediate feedback and specific practice instructions help my students gain a sense of confidence and assess their progress. Last but not least, singing should be fun!

I worked with Michelle for a little over 2 years. As an adult student, I was super nervous about singing in front of anyone - it took me this long to just sign up for lessons! She was patient with me and gave me lots of tools for dealing with my nerves and stage fright. Michelle helped me to choose songs that I not only wanted to sing but that matched my voice and range. I was hesitant about performing in a recital but Michelle pointed out that it was like training for a marathon - doing all the work but not performing just seemed silly. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely something I'm proud to have crossed off my bucket list.

I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my student'an array of tool to gain the ability a
nd confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe, it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

About Chelsea:
Chelsea made her operatic debut in 2005 in Italy with Operafestival di Roma in their main stage production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. While in Rome, Chelsea also was featured in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. She has also been involved in other concert and oratorio works such as Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No.5, Rutter's Requiem, and Mozart's Requiem.

Along with her classical training she has performed in many musicals such as The King and Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma, and œThe Boyfriend. Chelsea is an honored NATS (National Association for the Teachers of Singing) competitor, Peabody Scholarship recipient, and Bland Music Scholarship recipient. Recently, Chelsea B. worked with the Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra on their spring and summer concert series. When she's not singing, you may find Chelsea enjoying a run through the neighborhood, or enjoying some time with her cat CJ.

Chelsea holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees form the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.

I have had the pleasure of working with Chelsea for the last six years at a summer music camp that is sponsored by my church in Peachtree City Georgia. Chelsea is one of our Artists-in-Residence and leads vocal workshops, coaches vocalists, performs with the praise team, and also performs solo material in her presentations. This past year she served as worship leader where she directed over 100 children (ages 5-11), teen and adult volunteers in vocal worship. Her enthusiasm for music is infectious and she brings a fresh approach to the music that is presented at each encounter. She is able to establish a rapport with students of all ages making them comfortable and engaged in the music.
During our week-long camp, Chelsea and other professional musicians present a beautiful concert for the public where classical works are performed. Chelsea treats the audience to sacred and spiritual works and has developed a devoted following of patrons who return annually to hear her perform.

Chelsea has been teaching my 14 year old grandson now for over 2 years. She is actually "gets him" where many teachers don't and she manages to bring the absolutely best out in him. She clearly loves her work and it shows so much so that after many years of playing the piano, more off than on recently, I decided to take lessons with her too. I could not be more pleased with the outcome.

Carl is currently working with Palen Music Center. He is also teaching at the University of Tulsa as an adjunct faculty member during Spring 2018. He maintains an online music studio through TakeLessons, where he teaches several instruments privately and in group settings including saxophone, guitar, oboe, music theory, flute, clarinet, and piano.

Carl taught at Oklahoma State University as a Lecturer of Saxophone and Music Theory during Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert's sabbatical beginning August 2017. His duties included graduate saxophone lessons, graduate music theory review, graduate saxophone pedagogy, and saxophone studio class.

Prior to working at OSU, Carl was Instructor of Jazz and Saxophone at South Dakota State University from 2014-2017. His responsibilities included directing the annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival, dire
cting Jazz Ensembles I-II, Jazz Combo, Jazz Improvisation lessons, Jazz Pedagogy, online Jazz Appreciation, private saxophone lessons, saxophone quartets, private oboe lessons, and group guitar class.

Carl completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance at the University of Kansas in 2014, and his Master of Music Pedagogy and Performance from Oklahoma State University in 2011. He graduated from Harrah High School in 2002, earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2008, and was a 5th-12th grade Head Band Director at Fairview Public schools. He is currently a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the Jazz Education Network, Music Teachers National Association, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and an Honorary Member of Tau Beta Sigma. He has held previous memberships with Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Delta Pi, and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.

While at KU, Carl was also a graduate teaching assistant for the saxophone studio and jazz studies program. His responsibilities included Assistant Director of the KU Jazz Festival, directing Jazz Ensembles II-III, directing Jazz Combo III-VI, directing Saxophone Quartets II-III, teaching private saxophone lessons, assisting in saxophone studio class, and teaching the music education woodwind methods course. His Lecture Recital Document, A Performer’s Analysis of Selected Jazz Works for Saxophone Quartet, featured an interview with Bob Mintzer. Carl was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, KU Saxophone Quartet I, and KU's Helianthus New Music Ensemble. As a member of KU's Jazz Ensemble 1, Carl has performed with Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Alex Sipiagin, Steve Owen, Gary Foster, Steve Houghton, Clint Ashlock, David von Kampen, Peter Epstein, Jeff Miley, James Miley, Roger Shew, and Brian Hamada, Brandon Draper, Rich Wheeler, Beau Bledsoe, Jeff Harshbarger, and Matt Otto. In July 2014, Carl went on a European tour with KU Jazz Ensemble I featuring Steve Leisring and Deborah Brown. Together, they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Vienne Jazz Festival in France, and performed in several cities in Germany. Recordings by this band resulted in KU winning the DownBeat Student Award (Graduate College Large Jazz Ensemble Division) in 2015.

While at OSU, Carl was a GTA for the saxophone studio and music theory programs. His responsibilities included Music Theory I-IV tutoring and grading, sight-singing grading, piano labs, classical and jazz saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet coaching, saxophone studio Webmaster, and saxophone studio class. Carl was a member of the OSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1. He had a regularly performing jazz trio and played in OSU's X2End saxophone quartet. The X2End quartet performed locally at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Washington D.C., at the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and has won the state and division rounds of the 2010-2011 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. The X2End quartet went on to win the 3rd place prize at the national final round of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. They also were the Division II Chamber Ensemble winners at the 2011 Hubbard Music Competition where they were awarded the 2nd place prize in the overall finals. Carl's final degree paper at OSU was a study of composer/performer collaboration. He traveled to Texas, Michigan, and Ohio to interview saxophonists and composers including David Dees, Peter Fischer, John Sampen, Marilyn Shrude, Joe Lulloff, and Charles Ruggiero. He has presented his lecture at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and the 2012 OSU Single Reed Summit. As a member of OSU's Jazz Ensemble 1, he has performed with Bob Sheppard, Conrad Herwig, Wayne Bergeron, and Andy Martin.

While at SWOSU, Carl performed as a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A, saxophone quartet, and his own jazz combo named Five-Seven. As a member of SWOSU's Jazz Ensemble A, he has performed with Dan Haerle, Bob Bowman, Jack Mouse, Fred Forney, Janice Borla, Eddie Daniels, Pamela York, Lynn Seaton, Carl Allen, Dr. Michael Cox, Tom Williams, Dr. Robert Chambers, Dave Hanson, Drori Mondlak, Delores Williams, Byron Stripling, Frank Wess, Kenny Drew Jr., Dennis Mackrel, Bill Watrous, Rich Eames, Jennifer Leitham, and Randy Drake.

Carl's primary saxophone instructors have been Vince Gnojek, Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert, Dr. Ann Bradfield, Dr. Keith Talley, and William Rodney Hull. He has had additional instruction in lessons and masterclasses from Gary Foster, Dr. Joseph Murphy, Dr. Michael Cox, Bob Sheppard, Johnny Salinas, Dr. Kimberly Goddard Loeffert, Dr. Geoffrey Deibel, Dr. Jonathan Nichol, Dr. Griffin Campbell, Dr. James Laughlin, and Dr. David Dees. Carl's jazz directors have included Dan Gailey, Bob McCurdy, Dr. Jonathan Martin, Dr. Keith Talley, and Dr. Terry Segress.

Carl enjoys recording several instruments in his home studio and composing new music. His compositions that have been performed include his big band arrangement of Cat Battles by Joshua Redman, September in the Refrain (alto saxophone and electronics), Funk-o-matic (jazz combo), Smooth (jazz combo), and The Deadline Arrives at Dawn (alto saxophone and electronics). As an advocate of new music involving the saxophone, he has participated in a commissioning consortium for Alone Together by composer David MacDonald through Kick Starter. In 2013, Carl performed the premier of Cuento #3 by Nelson Ramirez Diaz. During summer of 2014, he recorded selections from Dr. John Walker's "The Alto Saxophone in the Attic," published by Carl Fischer. At the 10th Annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival in 2015, Carl directed SDSU Jazz Ensemble I's premier of Dog, Tired by David von Kampen.

Carl is a Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist. He hosted the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 (ND, SD, NE, MN, IA) Conference at South Dakota State University on March 17-18, 2017. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Carl performed Dreams in the Dusk by David Biedenbender with South Dakota State University's Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Jacob Wallace. On Monday, February 6, 2017, Carl performed the premiere of Lhotse for alto saxophone and percussion by Steve Danyew with Dr. Aaron Ragsdale. In April 2017, Carl performed solo tenor saxophone and orchestral clarinet in Ethan Bortnick's national PBS Special called "Generations of Music," which featured special guest, Peter Yarrow, from Peter, Paul and Mary.

About Jonathan
I see each lesson with a student as another opportunity to help facilitate realization within them. Now in my fourth year as a professional freelance performing and teaching artist living in New York City, I currently hold a private studio of over 20 pupils, ages 6 to 65, professing a wide range of topics rooted in the subject matters of music, the arts, and spirituality.

Most of the subjects I teach are music related, in which I have over 6 years of Conservatory training, a Bachelor's and Master's degree, as well as over 15 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level. However, my interests, practices, and skillsets do extend beyond sound and visual art, and in the realm of spirituality.

I specialize in the following areas of musical study: General Music, Composition, Ear Training, Music History,
Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet and Piano/Keyboards. As a trumpeter, I have competed twice in international competitions presented by the International Trumpet Guild, and have participated in two audition based international intensive programs: at the School for Improvisational Music, and at the Banff Center in Alberta Canada. I was one of only two jazz trumpeters in the world to receive an audition for the 2014 Juilliard Artist Diploma Program in Jazz Trumpet, and besides touring as a musician in over 5 countries, I have served as an educator for the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance created by GRAMMY-winning pianist Arturo O'Farrill, as well as the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York City.

I have also been practicing various forms of meditation practices and Yoga practices for the past 3 years. My influences span from Astral Projection to Reiki, to Vipassana Meditation, to Visualization Techniques, and much more. I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music and the arts, I have realized that creative flow and love for what one is and does can be applied to anything in life.

Because of my 9+ years experience as a professional artist living in New York City, my students receive both guidance in discovering their own voice and comfort within their desired field of practice, and also practical approaches to retain and utilize their training and pre-ordained skill sets, with self-application and diligence. Through study with me, my students enable themselves to swiftly make progress and move toward a life of renewed purpose and fulfilment. Through specific assignments, exercises, and practices my students foster a real relationship with their instruments, and themselves, thus unlocking their creative minds, for usage in all aspects of their lives.

I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more. Additionally, I am able to travel to any location within the five boroughs for an additional travel fee (TBD based on location).

I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. Thank you for visiting my page! You've come to the right place. Over the past several years, I've helped dozens upon dozens of music students of all ages and skill levels improve their skills at playing saxophone, clarinet, and flute. Along with basic theory, tone production, music reading, and intonation, I teach jazz and beginning improvisation, concert band, blues, soul, and R&B.

My school-age students win chair placements, place well in auditions, and some win awards. Some examples: recently, one of my sax students won the M.J. Brown Family Performing Arts Music Award, and an 11-year-old flute student won both Most Improved Jazz Student and Outstanding Achievement in his orchestra class.

My adult learners have fun re-connecting with their instrument of choice. Most students have been with me for one to three years.

Students
thrive on structure and goals, and I have developed a unique approach to practicing that gets results. I teach all ages and skill levels to play saxophone, clarinet, and flute. I cover many styles, from concert band, to jazz, blues, soul, and R&B, theory, tone, articulation, and more. I am experienced with preschoolers to middle school-age children, high school and college ages, nervous adult beginners, and special needs students.

I recommend the following lesson structure:
• First-time beginners: one 30-minute lesson per week
• Older beginners to intermediate students: one 45 minute lesson per week
• Advanced students: 60 minutes once each week

My approach to lessons is to support a competition-free environment where every level of player can feel comfortable, have fun, and make fast and steady progress. Students are also encouraged to participate in all-ages jam sessions, and at our recitals.

I work from my home studio on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Centrally located in La Mesa, my studio is just a few minutes east of Qualcomm Stadium. Plenty of free parking, and parents are encouraged to sit in during lessons.

On Thursdays, I'm in my La Jolla studio on Girard at La Jolla Music.

My own teaching experience includes private post-secondary, SDSU’s College of Extended Studies, and I’ve facilitated and run woodwind master classes at Grossmont and Valhalla High Schools.

I highly recommend Dave, he is an awesome teacher! Dave is very knowledgeable, gave my daughter confidence from her first Sax lesson. He knew exactly what my daughter needed to work on.

What impresses me about Dave is that he adds humor to the lessons, yet is still firm about getting the point, or lesson across to my son. My son enjoys the lessons and looks forward to seeing Dave. I highly recommend Dave as an instructor.

About Dru
Dru is a professional percussionist and teacher living and working in New York City. She graduated from Appalachian State University with 2 Bachelors Degree -- one in Music Performance and the other in Business Administration. While at App State, she was the president of the Steely Pan Steel Band and spent the majority of her days traveling North Carolina and surrounding states spreading the love of the Trinidad namesake instrument, the Steel Pan. She also was a member of the New Paradigm Quartet, ASU Percussion Ensemble, and the ASU Tabla Ensemble. In addition, she taught drumline and front ensemble for three years at Athens Drive High School, Bunker Hill High School, and Eastern Alamance High School. These days she is a bookkeeper by day and gigging, teaching, and even *pretend* playing on the upcoming season of Amazon's Mozart in the
Jungle by night! She is also heavily involved in Bollywood dancing, learning to speak Hindi, and a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC.

I have been teaching private piano lessons to all ages (4-60+) at pretty much any level (beginner-advanced) for the past 7 years. I also began teaching musical groups 4 years ago consisting of instruments you would typically see in a rock band or big band. This year is my second year as the band director of the GA 4-H State Performing Arts Group, Clovers & Company. With my 18 years of musical experience (which began as classical training) and 10 years of music performance experience, I am able to teach my students nearly anything they want to learn.

Something that surprises my students when I first meet them is that my college education is not in music but, instead, in Psychology. I use my education to help my students find their weak points in learning and help them overcome those obstacles by looking at it from a psychological standpoint.

And before I go, if you like "normal" teachers, you came to the wrong place. I have been told by my students that I teach very differently ...

About Daniel
At my core, I am an entertainer. I have been performing music and magic for over 10 years in front of audiences and crowds ranging from my family to nearly 10,000 random people. I started music at the age of 5 and magic at the age of 9. I do my best to make my lessons interesting and engaging. I have no problem teaching out of a book or creating a home-made learning plan for you based on what musical path you want to go down.

Do you like classical music? Make sure to come Bach every week for your next lesson! Do you like music on the radio? Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing! Do you want to play in a band? Hold your applause until after the lesson! Don't know what you want to do? Don't feel bad because I am still figuring that out for myself.

My piano lessons will be taught to you from my own bedroom. I have a Kawai Studio ke
yboard that I will hook up to a board with a microphone to give you some top quality sound. I have a single HD webcam for now but will eventually purchase another one so that I can have 2 views to swap between (myself and my hand on the piano).

My 13 year old son took piano lessons from Daniel. My son's knowledge, skills and interest grew as a result. Daniel was able to teach him fundamentals while allowing him to learn some pieces of his choice. Daniel kept him engaged and interested. It was an all-round great experience. Now, my son performs in the marching band at his high school and plays a number of instruments.
