I am an experienced teacher of 16 years! I thrive on finding each student's specific learning style and cultivating a positive and productive learning experience within that. I apply consistent and focused energy in getting my students to strive for their best, and I aim to inspire them to respond in turn with the same focused and accurate effort.

I believe that every person can be taught, that parental involvement is crucial in the development of musicians from a young age through the high school years, and that music education must not only train and strengthen the fingers of a student to be agile on an instrument, but must ultimately train the ear, the mind, the body, and strengthen the person. My mission is to educate and enable well-rounded, excellent musicians that will be able to use their gifts and talents in a productive and fulfilling manner.  I am committed to offering full musical instruction of the highest quality to students of any age in order to enrich the local ...

I can teach students with any level of skill in singing or playing an instrument how to read music, write down music notation, identify intervals and chords by ear, and understand the chord structure of music. My students in piano and singing receive instruction in music theory as part of their lessons, but I also teach theory-only lessons for students who sing or play any instrument.

I decided to wait until middle age to begin taking piano lessons so that my brain would be as resistant as possible to learning.

I'm glad I found a teacher as patient, friendly and knowledgable as Laurel. I've been taking lessons with her for almost a year. She tailors the sessions to my spooky interests and encourages me to push my abilities.

When we began I had barely touched a piano in my life. Now I'm able to read sheet music, recognize relative pitches and play a list of my favorite songs with independent hand movement.

I'd recommend Laurel to anyone who wants to learn piano regardless of age or skill level.

Laurel has been my kid's piano teacher for a little over four years now. My kids absolutely love her, and I think that is what makes the difference because I want my kids to enjoy taking lessons. Laurel is very knowledgeable and patient. She makes sure students learn both reading music and playing by ear. My kids have come a long way with reading music and playing the piano, and I think a big reason is because of Laurel.

Although I was only able to have a few lessons with Laurel due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, I was extremely happy with Laurel's expertise and style of teaching.

I previously played the organ but had stopped for many years. She helped me get back into playing and provided new theory techniques that I had never learned previously.

I personally do prefer in-home lessons vs on-line. If there is a time in the future for in-home lessons to re-open I will definitely reach out Laurel to continue my lessons.

Greg quickly assessed the starting point for our lessons. He said it was helpful that I had filled out the survey form in advance of the first lesson. He seems to have a good balance between correct form and good sound. I’m looking forward to working with him.

"I started taking guitar lessons for the first time 10 months ago and am thankful I found such a great teacher in Ahmad. His positive attitude and love of music helps me stay engaged and lessons are productive and fun.

One of the great things about Ahmad is he listens to you and adjusts lesson content based on the feedback you provide. His ability to listen allows Ahmad to deliver a personalized lesson plan that incorporates your goals and gets you excited about what you are working on.

Ahmad also has taught me techniques to prevent and address minor aches that come up while learning to play. He takes this seriously and shows you how to prevent and resolve any issues that come up.

Overall, taking lessons from Ahmad has been a very positive experience. I look forward to continuing working with him to get better."

"Billy is the absolute best! Transcribing rhythms and ear training analysis have always been my weaknesses when it comes to music theory knowledge and finding the right exercises and techniques to improve has always been quite a difficult process to achieve. However, within just a few tutoring lessons from Billy, I started to build a better understanding of music theory as a whole. In every tutoring lesson, Billy was patient, knowledgeable and friendly which quickly benefited my musicality and strengthened my overall friendship and love with music. Thank you Billy!"

"I play in a rock band that wanted to add some Sinatra type jazz songs to our repertoire. I was tasked to play bass with which I had very little experience. I decided to take some lessons with Gary to learn a little jazz theory and technique. He was a wonderful teacher. He focused in on exactly what I needed quickly and pointed me toward resources that I could use to improve. Despite my limited abilities, Gary was always patient and displayed good humor. When I needed him to write a bass line for me quickly so that I could take it on vacation, he made the time to make sure that I had what I needed. I enjoyed our lessons and recommend him highly. Gary is a teacher who truly cares about his students."

"Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!"

Why You Should Learn (At Least a Little) Music Theory

One of the most common weaknesses for amateur musicians is a lack of music theory knowledge. Many people assume that learning theory is difficult (it isn’t) that it has no practical purpose (it does), or even that it will actively make them worse at making music (quite the opposite). I’m here to convince you that learning a little about how music works is one of the most important skills you can develop and should absolutely be part of your daily practice routine. Here are five reasons w …
