I have extensive training in musical theatre and have been in several productions. I have a M.M. in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive vocal training. I teach an open throat technique (appoggio) that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

About Benjamin
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I currently work for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the U.S.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectat
ions that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.

Having spent thousands of hours working as a musical performer and training over the years, I am an expert in auditioning for musicals and teaching Broadway style as well as connecting emotionally to the song.

About Laurel
Laurel is a professional vocal coach and singer with a long history of performing with various bands ranging from cover bands to a jazz orchestra as well as writing and recording her own music. Laurel has been teaching voice professionally for over five years. She is a classically trained actress with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from California State University, Northridge and has starred in several musicals and plays in Los Angeles as well as Hawaii where she lived most recently before returning to the mainland. She has also worked as a professional actress in film and TV and was a voice over casting director for several years.

Most recently Laurel had the opportunity to guest sing with the Ventura Jazz Orchestra. She is currently the lead singer of a professional cover band called The Jukebox Rockers who do a variety of music fro
m different eras including classic rock, pop, country and disco.

Laurel is trained in a vocal technique called Speech Level Singing which helps singers obtain optimum results using exercises specific to their vocal type to increase control and strengthen the mix between head and chest voice. Singers are able to sing in any style without straining, cracking or causing damage to their vocal cords. Laurel is passionate about helping her students release their true voices and unleash their maximum singing potential!

*** Lesson Details ***
The method I teach is derived from the Bel Canto technique of singing which has been historically used by opera singers but it is a universal method that can be applied to any genre of music. Teaching this method helps our students sing with a relaxed and open voice, adequate support and use of the diaphragm for breathing and control, and proper and effective use of vowels while “bridging” or transitioning between registers in the voice. Ultimately the student will learn how to sing with a proper mixed vocal sound which is explained further below.

I focus on assisting a singer through his or her vocal range from lowest notes (chest register) to highest notes (head register), safely, effortlessly, without strain, tension or loss of control. The goal is to sing with a clear solid and connected tone free from breaks or forcing pitches which results in tightness, yelling or voice flipping into an airy-sounding pitch. The student relearns to sing using a low and stable larynx which is the key to producing a mixed sound and mastering one’s voice.

Ultimately the secret to reaching your full vocal potential lies in mastering the vocal bridges which assist in the transition between registers. This technique not only allows you to sing in a safe manner but will effectively balance and strengthen your voice. Once you make the commitment to taking consistent lessons, practicing and singing correctly as much as possible, you will become the singer you have always believed you could be!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha keyboard, speakers and monitor to play background music and lyrics

*** Specialties ***
Improvement of singing pitch and range
Choosing the right songs for your vocal type
Learning to sing in a correct and safe manner
Balancing the voice from bottom register to top
Elimination of cracking, reaching and straining
Building dynamics and breath control

I teach with a wholistic approach. Each aspect of singing is connected to another: music to language to character to style to technique, which should all be cultivated from the individual singer's mind, body, and spirit.

My goal with each student is to help them find what works best for them. We will work together to discover which vocal exercises will grow and develop their instrument, which techniques help them to learn music and texts, and we will explore expression through performance to help them find their own artistic voice.

About Tookah
Hello all!

My name is Tookah, and I am a Soprano and Pianist from Oklahoma City. Music has always been the most joyful part of my life, and it is my mission to bring this joy to as many people as possible. I would love to help you learn to sing and play the music that inspires you and makes you happy!

Learning to sing is both mental and physical!
Learning to use ones body and develop beautiful legato and musical singing is the result I strive for for each individual student.
Music of all styles and techniques are taugh:
Opera, rock, jazz, blues and music theatre.
Performance opportunities in the form of recitals and group singing is encouraged and enjoyed and brings about confidence and a feeling of accomplishment.

About Jeanne
I knew I was going to be a musician when I won a talent contest at the age of 4. Not because I was so great but because they gave me money!
Needless to say I went on to study both piano and voice and later went to college on a scholarship. I earned three music degrees; BM in Vocal Performance, BM in Music Education and an MM in Opera Performance.

I taught Vocal music, K-12 for 24 years and also have a private music studio in my home.

I have performed in music theatre, opera, night clubs and even had some Rock and Roll! If it was music I wanted to experience it and somehow pass on what I learned.

All students are unique and I consider their individuality a prize! Each one brings their own dreams and goals and God leads me to help them achieve them. I consider this a sacred trust.

I am still studying piano and voice which I belie
ve helps me be a better teacher!

I also believe that the gifts that I have are meant to be used to help others. This is my calling and great joy!

What is your dream song to sing? What style do you want to learn? A Broadway classic, maybe. An operatic diva. A top 40 chart topper. So many teachers will tell you one is beneath another, that the style of a song will destroy your voice. Instead of discouraging you from what you love, above all I want to see you reach those goals. With proper technique as a foundation to build upon you absolutely can sing anything your heart desires.

About JESSICA
Having spent my entire (short) life in choirs, music classes, and private lessons, I learned one thing to enforce above all else: it’s okay to be wrong. You’ll hit wrong notes, your fingers will slip, you’ll need to work on posture. And that’s okay. I was privately trained in the Belle Canto style for 10 years, but to this day I forget to breathe properly. It’s not the end of anything. It’s rarely even the end of the song.

I’ve coached professional and amateur singers for 3 years, coached diction and pronunciation for 4, and worked for a local opera company for the past 4 years as well. If it’s something you choose to do, I’m prepared to instruct proper technique as applied to a multitude of languages.

But above all, I strive for you to be comfortable and happy with your instruction. Music is for the soul. It should never make you fee
l worse to make it.
