First and above all, the guitar is FUN. But it can be a challenge to describe all that a guitar is to a beginner. A guitar can be played and used to express any emotion and can become a friend. In addition to conventional music notation, guitars can be learned more easily using a special system called tablature.
I like to ask what the student is wanting to accomplish on the guitar. What kind of music they like, how they want to utilize the instrument, picking, strumming, fingerstyle, etc. I can then structure lessons to help them accomplish their goals.
About Roger
I have been playing guitar for 55 years and was fortunate to have an excellent teacher when I was young. The guitar is a wonderful instrument and tool for expression but mostly FUN. I hope we can use it to bring happiness into your life.

Hi! I am so stoked that you have decided to take guitar lessons. The guitar is an endlessly fascinating instrument that can be used to play a wide variety of styles. I look forward to sharing my knowledge of the instrument with you regardless of your skill level.
A little bit about my life with the guitar:
I began learning guitar with my father and brother at home. Then I took electric guitar lessons in the blues and soul genre with a local legend named Carl "Good Rockin" Robinson. I also studied jazz and classical with Leo Cavanagh.
Later, I studied finger-style with Peppino D'Agostino, jazz with Mimi Fox, and flat-picking with Eric Thomson (website error won't let me spell his name correctly with a "p").
In college, I had the privilege to study classically with Scott Tennant and Pepe Romero, amongst others.
Today, I write and perform with a rock band called Idle Joy, with a folk singer called Rainy Eyes, and for private events. Recently, I had the great honor of ...

Many guitarists have a tendency to focus most of their practice time and energy on left-hand fretting technique. Although the left hand is very important, mastering different rhythms and guitar strum patterns with your right hand adds a whole new dimension to your guitar playing. Understanding Guitar Strum Patterns Start by playing a simple chord progression. Ideally, you should be able to play through the chords without looking at the fingers on your left hand.
