I am an experienced teacher of 16 years! I thrive on finding each student's specific learning style and cultivating a positive and productive learning experience within that. I apply consistent and focused energy in getting my students to strive for their best, and I aim to inspire them to respond in turn with the same focused and accurate effort.

I believe that every person can be taught, that parental involvement is crucial in the development of musicians from a young age through the high school years, and that music education must not only train and strengthen the fingers of a student to be agile on an instrument, but must ultimately train the ear, the mind, the body, and strengthen the person. Music theory is the basic foundation for every good composer and songwriter. There's a lot to learn and a lot that can be used in your own music. Even if you only want to play guitar and not write music, music theory can help you be a better improvisor, increase your harmonic knowledge, and play better in group settings.

My background in music theory makes me capable of tutoring students in a wide range of music theory subjects. Through my extensive studies, I have learned about music theory and its history dating back to the Renaissance era (c. 1400s). My Music Theory Minor from Northwestern University has given me the opportunity to study music theory in many different contexts beginning with simple Roman numeral chord analysis and delving as deep as composing small four-voice fugues. A student who studies theory with me can expect to become an expert at music analysis, beginning with species counterpoint and continuing from there based on the student's subject interests. I am able to personalize the learning materials of each of my students by using different musical examples that I have studied over the fourteen theory courses I have taken so far. I took the AP Music Theory class in high school and received a 5 on the exam and am also able to help tutor students who wish to pass the test.
