Xylophone:
An instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden bars struck by mallets. Each bar is an idiophone tuned to a pitch of a musical scale, whether pentatonic or heptatonic in the case of many African and Asian instruments, diatonic in many western children's instruments, or chromatic for orchestral use. Like all instruments I teach we would start right from the beginning with learning hand technique, notes, rhythms, reading, chords, songs, theory and soloing.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the huge, black monstrosities th

I am a professional singer, actress, and voice teacher with a great passion for mentorship through music. I believe that music can be one of the most powerful vehicles for expression, confidence, and most importantly, joy. As a teacher, I aim to help my students harness all that an education in music has to offer and apply it to whatever their goals may be, both inside and outside of music.

Drawing from lifelong experience in music performance and education, I practice a holistic approach to voice teaching that combines vocal technique with dramatic interpretation, music literacy, and self-exploration. I welcome students of all different backgrounds, ages and levels of experience into my studio. Genres that I teach include Opera/Classical, Musical Theater, and Pop. Whether your goals are to pursue a professional career in performance or to simply have fun, I am commited to helping you find your voice!

About Danielle

Born and raised in NYC, I began my professional career at the age of 7, performing on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera as a member of the children's chorus. I continued my training at the "Fame!" school, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art, and Performing Arts. I hold a Bachelor of M

I grew up singing for fun (choir mostly) but I am a instrumentalist. I’ve always wanted to be able to sing confidently, with proper technique so I could have control etc. and so I finally pulled the trigger on lessons. I was nervous going into it, but Danielle immediately put me at ease and I feel like I’ve already made tons of progress towards finding and developing my voice!

Danielle is a great teacher - super encouraging and fun. She is a lovely singer and so inspiring to her students. My 11 year old felt really comfortable exploring her voice and it’s range, and the vocal exercises really strengthened her singing and confidence! I would recommend Danielle to anyone, especially those who are shy and quiet (regardless of age!) and need a gentle touch and warmth to bring them out of their shell!
Martha
Danielle is an extremely talented and kind teacher. She is a wonderful performer and has first hand knowledge of the music world. She also has a wide range of knowledge when it comes to style and repertoire- from classical to music theater and the like. Danielle is super patient and dedicated as a teacher and anyone would be lucky to work with her!

Getting Started: 5 Wonderful Piano Books for Kids

When a child begins playing piano, the first few months must be entertaining enough to keep them engaged, but educational enough that they feel they are making progress. There are many piano books for kids available, but a few provide the right mix of familiarity and challenges likely to keep your child's attention. The majority of beginning piano books for kids include nursery rhymes and children’s songs, so finding a book that they can enjoy is easy. However, it is balancing this with less f …

How Often Should You Tune a Piano?

Wondering about the average piano tuning cost, or how often you should tune a piano? You've come to the right place! Just as you go to the doctor for check-ups from time to time, your piano needs maintenance and care throughout its life. You may notice, especially if you have a keen ear, that your piano drops in pitch particularly during the summer and winter months. This is because your piano is mostly made of wood, and your wooden soundboard will contract when the weather is drier -- or the …
