Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

Karen was not prepared for the lesson. She spent 15 minutes trying to send me photos from a beginner Tabla book available on Amazon. She did not own a set of Tabla drums. She ensured me she could teach anything, but could not pronounce the words used for proper Tabla technique, knew no history and could not even teach me to tune. She literally was reading out of the book figuring it out along the way. I lost a lot of trust from this and asked for a full refund for future lessons.

"My daughter was looking for a cello teacher but we could not find anyone local that would fit her schedule. After reading several reviews we decided to try Jessica Greenly, even though I wasn't entirely sure if the online lesson model would work for someone who had never played the cello before. I was happily surprised after the first couple of lessons to see how Jessica was patient and engaging. My daughter has made great progress with Jessica and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great cello teacher. I should also mention that Jessica has been also very accommodating and willing to work with us to manage eventual changes in schedule when we needed it. Thank you so much Jessica."

"Corey has been working with our children for over 4 years. My son took three years of violin lessons and my daughter is on her second year of cello lessons. He is always a lot of fun to work with and helps his students develop a love of music early on. They have learned so much working with Corey and are advanced for their age/class, have participated in honors orchestra, a local youth symphony, and All-State. Corey is an enthusiastic dedicated professional, is always on time and has adapted his teaching methods well for working online. He has always been great working with our busy schedule and providing make-up lessons when needed. We look forward to many more years of lessons with him."

"I have started cello lessons back in June. Susanna is someone who will go at your pace, & is very patient with you. I grew up learning how to read music, so I was able to get through the first book pretty quickly. She has helped me set a new goal so that when I become unmotivated to practice, I can remember what my main goal is. I have an early lesson, so I tend to be a little sassy... She does amazingly with handling my sass & dishing it right back out at me. She makes the difficult lessons more fun, & enjoyable. I would reach out to her if you are looking for a teacher who is flexible, patient, & a joy to learn from."

"After only two sessions I am so glad to have found Jessica. She is patient, observant, helpful and so encouraging. I was unsure how online cello lessons would work but this is the ideal format for me. Jessica is able to observe form and offer gentle suggestions how as well as instruction on sound. I wish I was able to take the lessons in person with Jessica because there are a couple limitations to Skype (such as a slight lag and inability to have seamless dialogue or duets) but Jessica obviously knows how to deal with these technical problems. I highly recommend Jessica and am sure that with her help even an old, slow returning cellist will soon be enjoying playing complex music. Finally, Jessica has been very flexible with my crazy schedule lately. An awesome person and great instructor."

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
