Flat picking is the name of the game with this style. You will learn the scales and picking pattern to create and authentic bluegrass sound.

Standard strum accompaniment patterns in various keys, alternating bass lines, walk-ups, hammer-on and pull-off embellishments, flatpicking melodies, banjo-style forward and backward rolls, and traditional tunes, and much more.

Experienced guitar instructor of over 10 years, offering highly-personalized lessons built around the musical preferences, needs and goals of my students. I teach students of all ages in a warm, welcoming, LGBTQIA+ friendly environment.

For beginner students the focus will be primarily on getting you able to play songs from artists you love quickly and enjoyably, with a focus on developing good rhythm, technique, guitar care and a solid foundation of chords that can be used in innumerable songs. Theory will be given in small, easily-digestible pieces, and always within the context of actual musical examples. If you're interested in learning to sing while playing, I'll also help you find ways to incorporate it early on so that it becomes more natural as you progress.

For students with some experience the direction of our lessons will be largely determined by your personal needs and goals, but subjects we might cover include songwriting, finger-picking, expanding chord vocabulary, ...

Guitar lessons can include (but is not limited to):
-basic chords in first position and strumming basics
-advanced chords in other positions
-flatpicking basics
-advanced flatpicking techniques (cross-picking, speed and agility)
-basic and advanced fingerpicking techniques and styles
-learning to accompany yourself while singing
-learning to play with other people

-basic of chord theory and structure
-reading music OR reading tablature OR learning by ear (or all three)

Having a variety of experiences professionally and academically, I am very well suited to cater to the interests of my students. I am currently getting my Master's degree in classical guitar performance, but I often include a variety of styles in order to motivate your practice times at home. Whether you want really nail the sound of a Black Sabbath riff, learn to solo over a blues progression, or even learn a piano piece on guitar. I can help give you the tools to form your own musical identity.
