Jonathan has a demonstrable amount of knowledge about the violin including different playing styles, music theory, and its practical application. His approach is incremental and measured that adapts to my specific strengths and weaknesses intermixed with an appropriate amount of patience. He is also very personable. I always look forward to our lessons together.

I am a violinist, artist and singer/songwriter in Portland, Oregon who has been teaching violin for over 15 years. I believe that with enough practice, patience and dedication anyone can learn to play a new instrument. No previous experience is necessary-- just a passion for music!

NOTE: My availability is somewhat flexible so please contact me to set up a time that works!

Lessons will focus on:

-A solid basic foundation in classical music-- we can branch out from here!
-Learning to read music, use dynamics, bow, tune, scales, developmental exercises.
-Above all: having fun and pursuing a new passion.

Music is my life and has taken me all over the country and across the world and I want to share it's magic with as many people as I can!

About Naomi
Hello! I teach private violin lessons for beginners and intermediate students of all ages. I have been teaching violin for over 15 years. I love working with children of all ages and also specialize in working with adult beginning students. If you have always wanted to learn, now is the time! No previous experience is necessary-- just a passion for music!

NOTE: My availability is somewhat flexible. Please contact me to set up a time that works!

I am thorough and easy to work with. I use a combination of classical techniques and a hint of Suzuki method along with lots and lots of patience, creativity and encouragement.

About me: I am a classically trained violinist with over 20 years of experience and a diverse musical background. I've performed with the University Orchestra and the UT Opera Society at the University of Texas (wh
ere I went to school), several string quartets and many bands: folk, country, rock, experimental, pop and Mariachi to name a few. I periodically tour with bands nationally and internationally. I'm also a singer/songwriter. Additionally, I taught violin in the Mariachi program at Linder Elementary school for grades 2nd-5th for 3 years.

Equipment: I provide a stand and metronome at lessons and students just need to bring their violin and any books and accessories I assign for purchase.

For beginners, I generally start off with the Essential Elements book and/or Suzuki Method and then branch out from there. After the basics are established, students are welcome to bring their own music and ideas to the table as we continue to build a classical foundation. For middle/high school students who need extra help with their school orchestra, solo or UIL music we can make room for that too.

For those who live outside of Portland, I also offer video chat lessons via Skype/Google Hangouts/Facetime, which I've had a great success rate with and is really easy and convenient to use. In town students can also set up occasional video chat lessons anytime they feel like scheduling one (ig rainy days, limited transportation etc.)

About Kyle
Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Teaching private music lessons is my primary job, so I have much experience and wisdom compared to teachers who teach "on the side." Students of all ages stay with me a long time because I am very flexible in my teaching and know how to interact with many personalities and learning styles, producing great results and progress. My specialties are piano, woodwinds, and music technology (i.e. recording and production). You can find more information about me and what I do at caseymusicservice﮳com.

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

From the basic bow hold to false harmonics, we can cover it all on the violin. I focus on the goals of the musician, and let my students guide their own learning.

About Mark
I am a professional violist working in the central Illinois region. I've been playing the viola for 21 years, and also am comfortable on the violin as well. I received my Bachelors of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2004, double majoring in Music Performance (viola) and in Philosophy. Afterwards, I completed my Masters of Music in 2010 at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.

I frequently play with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Milliken-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, Danville Symphony Orchestra, and others.

In addition to music, my passions carry over to argumentation, literature, long distance running, and writing. I have a fierce eye for grammar and composition, and love to work with students to better their writing and understanding.

I am an experienced violinist of seven years who has performed in multiple Orchestras, including the Klein High School Chamber which is the top high school performing orchestra in Texas. I also have experience teaching many violinists at the beginner level, and have a precise teaching method to effectively get the best results out of every student. Not only will you be playing songs in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. Contact me for flexible payment and scheduling!

About Roman
***Introduction***

I am a violinist who has experience performing with Orchestras such as the Klein High School Chamber, and am a member of All-Region Orchestra. I also have years of experience teaching beginner violinists who are just starting out their musical journey. I believe that music is not only about reading notes and playing rhythms, but as well as having fun while doing so. This is why I make every lesson as fun as possible while still making sure students grasp the materials being taught.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson will be taught in response to current needs of a student but the following are the parts that make up an entire lesson:
- Technique
- Theory
- Music
- Practice
All together are basic fundamentals.

My job as a teacher is to help you find a place for music in your daily life and to make a practi
ce time more of an experimental discovery play, than boring work. Once you find a key, it opens up a whole new world of communication.

As a private violin instructor, I believe that education is impossible without student’s motivation and passion. Perhaps you have decided to become a professional musician or maybe you want to play for your own enjoyment... Whatever your goals are, I can lead you there! Let's make it happen together because it is never late to follow a dream!

I am an active freelancer with extensive performance and teaching experience. If you are looking for knowledgeable, engaging, and fun violin or viola instruction for all ages and levels, give me a call!

About Bogdan
Plato once said that “Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.” I believe that music is one of the deepest and most complex art forms. It reaches the depths of our souls and affects our lives in meaningful ways. It is my constant aspiration to inspire students to communicate the deepest longings of their souls through music, something that also requires the development of discipline and clear thinking. I strive to inspire my students to make music a life-long pursuit. While realizing that not all my students will become professional musicians, I do think that learning to play a musical instrument is essential in becoming a well-rounded human being.
Teaching students to play their instruments in such a way that their souls are reflected in the music they perform is no easy task. My job as a teache
r is to identify what Michelangelo called the “rubbish” -- those obstacles that stand in the way of natural and free musical expression -- and devise the most effective and fun ways to bring the “David” within to the forefront.
