About Jeffrey
Hello! I'm excited to all of you who have made it to my profile. I am a classically trained cellist from New Orleans who is ecstatic to teach anyone who is interested and loves the cello! I started playing cello in the 4th grade after a reading a book about a blind man playing the cello. I joined the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra and progressed through all of the orchestras after attaining principle chair. While in High school I attended the best art school in the city and started teaching for the New Orleans String project to begin sharing my knowledge.
I am excited to learn from you as well as teach you if you are interested! We can start with the basics or get right into the juicy stuff. Feel free to message me if you have any questions! I would love to walk you through the process and get started.Chao!

I met Jeffrey after one of his performances at Loyola University and hired him to give my son lessons. He is really passionate with his teaching and seems quite knowledgable on the subject of classical cello. Would definitely recommend him to any individuals or parents looking to hire a cello teacher out there.

There is not enough that I can say about Mr. Blackwell's teaching. Under his instructions, I have learned not only to play the bass by ear, but also I am able to read and understand music theory. Mr. Blackwell constantly challenges you to go further with every lesson. The best part of the class is the jam sessions! I love playing songs being the lead at times and a support to the band. I can't wait to play with our lead guitarist Michael. If you are looking for a music instructor, I highly recommend that you check out Mr. Blackwell!

It’s important when you’re investing in yourself that you get what you pay for. Every time I leave class, I leave with something. Something new, something fun, and full of knowledge. He takes time to understand his students and he really works with you and makes sure you don’t leave class until you have it down packed.

Brendon is a wonderful cello instructor for my son. He is not only patient but also very inspiring. He listens to our wishes and needs, and he designs the lesson plan to meet them. In addition, he is very good at building a strong bonding with his student. Brendon has recently moved away from our town, and my son can no longer taking lessons from him. But I know my son will always remembers Brendon fondly as his best cello instructor.

Brendon is a wonderful teacher and a gifted musician. I feel like I have more knuckles than fingers when playing, but he's patient and has produced - in my own humble opinion - a competent cellist out of me.

Taking cello lessons from Susan has been a wonderful experience for my child, and it has been lovely for me to associate with her. Susan has passion, warmth, and many years of experience. Initially, it can be a bit overwhelming (especially as a parent with little musical experience) to take in all that Susan will throw at you, but soon you will see the benefits of her broad range of knowledge and the holistic education she offers. She covers the many facets of playing cello, including rhythm, reading music, theory, group practices, careful attention to bow hold, tone production, performance, ensemble playing and listening. She is consistent and reliable. My child looks forward to Susan’s lessons each week and has commented, “Susan always finds something good, then gives me ideas on how to make it better.” She puts a lot of time, resources, and creativity into enriching activities that motivate kids to stay engaged and practice regularly. We highly recommend her!

Want to be a creative thinker and fearless musician behind the instrument? Come take lessons! I have 4 years of teaching young children not only in music but also chess and science. I cater each lesson to the student to optimize curiosity, learning, and fun! My extensive background in contemporary performance shaped my unique approach to technique and musical interpretations. Students will develop a strong sense of theory and technique, listening, improvising and sight-reading skills. There's no single way to play the cello, and together we'll find the way that works best for you!

About Maria
A contemporary cellist and champion of current music, Maria has been described as a “stunning” and “brilliant” musician, performing with a natural spunk. A resident of Queens, NY, Maria has performed in venues around the city ranging from recital halls and churches to DIY venues. Her performances have also brought her across the northeast, Canada, and Europe, to festivals such as the Bang on a Can Summer Festival at Mass MoCA, Montreal Contemporary Music Lab, Atlantic Music Festival, where she was part of the resident Contemporary Ensemble, and to the Klangspuren International Ensemble Modern Academy Festival in Austria.

Her work with ensembles reflects her stalwart commitment to new music; the 2017-18 season has seen her play as a core member in Ensemble Mise-en. She can also be heard playing around the city with ShoutHouse, Stark
Raving, and Ghost Ensemble, String Orchestra of Brooklyn and The Chelsea Symphony. In 2016, she focused much attention to her project Phoenix Quartet, which performed almost exclusively Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time and commissioned works inspired by it.

Miss Maria is also thrilled to be apart of musicals. Recently, she has been heard playing in productions of Nine with Manhattan School of Music's Musical Theatre Department, Sondheim on Sondheim with Fire Island Performing Arts Project, and a new musical, Brontes, about the literary Bronte sisters as part of Theatre in Asylum. In the past, she's been grateful to play in productions of Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and a new musical Marry Harry.

Miss Maria is a Presser Scholar and recipient of the President's Award for the Purchase College Conservatory of Music. She earned a BM with a History Minor from Purchase College, where she studied with Julia Lichten, and Miss Maria recently completed a Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance from Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Fred Sherry.

Away from the instrument, Maria enjoys boxing, crossword puzzles, board games, and reading big books about American history. Currently, she is in the middle of Ron Chernow's Washington. She also works with kids after school teaching chess, percussion, and science.

I'm a student currently studying cello performance at the Eastman School of Music. I've been playing cello for 9 years and have been doing student teaching for about 4 years. I focus on building up great technique in my students, but more importantly, I want to help my students feel more connected to the music they play, and ultimately use their technique to express themselves. The best teachers, for me, don't just teach you how to play the notes, but also how to find your own meaning in the music that you play- no matter the difficulty level of the piece you're playing!

I use the Suzuki method for most beginner/intermediate students, but I'm also sensitive to what the student wants. I'm a firm believer that the student should always enjoy what they are practicing! I want to build up healthy, solid technique in my students, but I encourage my students to find pieces they themselves are interested in! Practicing and learning the cello takes dedication- but it is a deeply gratifying ...

About Isaac
I am a very experienced classical cellist currently studying cello performance at Eastman, and I've been there for about 2 years now. As a student, my aim is to provide valuable, affordable lessons and teach my students everything they need to know in order to improve their musicianship.

Students can expect to improve their technique every single week, but there's something that's even more important to me as a teacher. I want my students to feel more connected to the music they play, and feel that they are using their technique in order to express themselves. That's the most gratifying part of music making, for me: finding your own meaning in the music you play.

As a cellist, I've been lucky enough to be apart of masterclasses with some very incredible cellists, including Paul Katz, David Geber, Julia Lichten and Norman Fischer. I've b
een principal cellist of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, and was very lucky to have been a part of Boston University Tanglewood Institute's Young Artists Orchestra in 2015, where I also served as one of the principal cellists. I've studied cello privately for 9 years with teachers including Ching-Jung Lee, Efe Baltacigil, and am currently studying with David Ying at the Eastman School of Music.

Practicing the cello is a commitment, but a deeply gratifying one. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your musical goals!
