I use the Master Theory Series curriculum as well as custom worksheets to teach students to recognize and understand the use of musical notation, intervals, scales, and chord progressions, using ear-training to reinforce these concepts. Students can expect to learn how to read music, build scales and chords, and develop sensitive ears to recognize musical patterns. Concepts are always broken down into smaller pieces to ensure thorough understanding.

About Allison
Welcome to my profile! I provide a warm and encouraging environment for students to make the mistakes necessary for learning an instrument and exploring their musical creativity. My passion for music has inspired me to pursue teaching and performance professionally in order to help others achieve their musical dreams.

My ultimate goal is for my students to gain all the skills necessary for creating meaningful musical experiences for themselves. Specifically I try to help them gain clean technique, a pleasing and expressive tone, basic understanding of music theory, and enough knowledge of music history to play with appropriate expression. I try to accomplish these goals by clearly explaining careful and deliberate practice techniques that remove the stress often associated with daily practice. Students will reap the benefits if they a
re committed to a regular practice schedule, are attentive during lessons, ask questions, and are honest with themselves about what is and is not working.

I began my teaching career in college while earning a Bachelor's in Music from Southwestern University (magna cum laude). I currently play as a soloist and with groups including AURORA: Trio for Flute, Harp, and Cello, the Shimmer Flute Choir, and Sounds of Silver Flute Quartet. I am also an active member of the Music Teacher's National Association and volunteer coordinator of the Houston Flute Club.

I love performing and I share my passion for music with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***

***I only teach lessons in my studio or online for certain subjects. I do not travel to students' homes.***

Flute Lessons:

I offer lessons that cover just about every aspect of playing the Western concert flute. Students can expect to become well-rounded musicians who are knowledgeable about flute technique, tone, music theory and history. I use a combination of the Rubank Method and Flute 101 books with handout supplements.

The biggest changes I've seen in my students after a few months is a better understanding of how to practice efficiently as well as improved tone. Furthermore, every year many of my students earn superior ratings of 1 on their UIL solos.

Every Spring my students and I participate in Flute Fest, a day-long celebration of all things flute, including concerts, masterclasses, and a solo and ensemble contest. A few weeks later we have our annual studio recital where everyone shows off their hard work.

A NOTE ABOUT WOODEN FLUTES

Occasionally I am asked to help students play wooden, non-western flutes. Although the very basic fundamentals are the same, I do not play these flutes and do not teach them.

Piano Lessons:

Piano is not only fun to play for its own sake, but provides a foundation for all music making. Students will learn about proper posture and hand-positioning, note-reading, rhythm, and a little history as well, using the Piano Pronto book series.

Music Theory Lessons:

I can help students of any instrument better understand the fundamental concepts of music theory: scales, intervals, chords, part-writing, etc. Theory lessons take place at the piano to demonstrate concepts. However, students do not have to play piano to take theory lessons. I typically use a combination of the Master Theory curriculum and other handouts, unless the student is already working out of another textbook.

**Online theory lessons** use the same curriculum, but with the screen share feature to help my demonstrations.

Summer Curriculum:

During the summer I offer additional group classes on different subjects, including theory and ear-training. I try something new every year to provide a variety of opportunities for students to learn and grow in their musicianship.

***Tuition Packages***
I have added my own features to the two tuition options TL already offers. I consider the Recurring Schedule a Subscription Package, where clients pay the same amount every month, equal to the value of four lessons, regardless of the number of lessons attended. This guarantees a permanent reservation of your time slot. I call the Schedule-As-You-Go the A La Carte Package, for those who cannot commit to a regular time. There is no reservation of a time slot and you pay for a few lessons at a time. I am happy to answer questions about tuition through the Ask A Question feature!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is located in the front room of my home and includes a music stand, piano, and comfortable chairs in case parents would like to stay for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I primarily concentrate on classical music, but I also have experience with extended techniques, which include singing and playing at the same time, key clicks, and multiphonics.

Learn how music works! Keys, scales, modes, chords, etc.
I'll show you how to get specific feels, moods and emotions.

We start basic and go from there until you have a real working knowledge that can be used with any instrument or style of play. The studies that I use are a combination of taking songwriting structures and breaking them down so that they make sense to anyone. I teach chord progressions as well as scales and sometimes go a bit off the deep end when I feel students are ready.

About Kyle
TakeLessons.com Instructor since 2012, Kyle K. is now available for online lessons worldwide featuring a great screen sharing experience to maximum involvement with students!

Kyle has been playing guitar for over 20 years, been writing for over 15 years and has been producing music for over 10 years. He has developed his own method of teaching to positively build on the student's strengths, dexterity, ear-training, natural technique, memorization and creativity. The goal is to always design lessons around you as an individual to help you reach your goals as an artist and musician. Whether it's guitar, bass, songwriting or production this method is used to maximize results!

A word from Kyle K:
"I love music! To me, it's a way of life. From listening to playing to writing and of course teaching. I grew up with music all around
me at school and home. My dad was a piano player and teacher so music has been a part of my life since day one and I want to share what I have learned. Everyone has a unique musical talent and I enjoy helping them find it. I believe that anyone can be an excellent musician. Playing an instrument should be a fun and creative adventure. Whether it's strumming at home, playing out in the clubs, or writing the next big hit, I will do my best to get you there!

My musical life began when I was in 5th grade and my dad bought me a saxophone, which I played for over 12 years. I quickly learned how fast I could improve if I simply kept playing with focus. When I hit my teen years I fell in love with rock music and mowed enough lawns to buy my first guitar. I jammed and wrote songs with many other musicians and several bands over the years. We played countless shows and released a few albums. Now I write and produce music and sound design daily for TV, Film and Trailers for companies like Disney, Universal, MTV, NFL and many more.

I started teaching 11 years ago and found that it is one of my favorite things to do. Helping others grow into great musicians is rewarding and fun. I've learned that from grade school to retirement, each student is a unique and special individual. My lessons reflect that fact so that we can reach all your goals together. *My personal goal is to get my students to understand and write music that will stay with them and encourage them to continue."

All lessons take place in a fully operational Digital Recording Studio and dedicated lesson room. Gaining real world playing experience with current technology is a definite advantage over traditional lessons. This also allows the student to capture ideas when songwriting and provides a unique playing experience. Imagine looking back years down the line, listening to something you wrote and hearing the improvements and your own personal music history. That's what writing and recording as you learn is all about.

*** Lesson Details ***
Everyone is different, and every lesson should be suited to fit the individual. Depending on the type of lessons (guitar, bass, music production, theory, etc.) the style teaching will be adjusted to fit. It's all about YOUR goals and needs.

Each student is going to receive lessons based on their preferences of genre and style of music they desire to play. I expect my students to practice regularly and have a good time as their abilities and knowledge grow. By working together, we can focus on goals and problem solving to get you to the next level of play. Most importantly, we are going to have a blast while we learn to play music!

*We'll start slow and build your knowledge base with each lesson.
*You can expect to understand what you are playing AND be able to write your own music is desired.
*You will be given everything you'll need to succeed including custom made drums and songs to play with so you can improve at home.

Let's start learning and improving today!

Kyle is a great teacher and takes the time to understand where you’re starting from and where you want to go. He is very patient and his studio has a relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Kyle is a great listener and there’s no pressure regardless of your skill level. No one could be more of a beginner than me and I feel like I’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. I would highly recommend him for both beginners and the more experienced alike.

About Chris
Hi! Welcome to Take Lessons! Let me start off by saying that I love to teach singing and acting!! I specialize in teaching students from teens to adults but love teaching younger children as well. There is no better feeling than to see a student grow and better themselves artistically and personally. In addition to teaching singing and acting for over 10 years I have performed in numerous Broadway shows, West End shows, and National Tours throughout the US and Canada. I am presently a working actor. I received my education from the University of Michigan's School of Music. Whether you are a first time singer/actor or an established professional I love students who are excited to absorb new ideas and attempt to grow in ways they hadn't thought possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are unique to each individual. I tend to cater
my lesson plan to each students goals, experience, and age. I believe that there is no one way to teach or one way to learn. Trying numerous exercises and coming up with creative ways to help students assimilate new material and concepts is a core part of my teaching philosophy. Above all learning should be fun and exciting. I will do my best to create a safe open atmosphere where a student of any age level can succeed in achieving their learning goals.

Musical Theatre is my passion and my forte, however in order to teach singing or acting proper technique must be established.

Chris was very patient and provided great advice, examples and coaching. This is my first voice lesson and I am 54 years old and I was very nervous and unsure, but Chris made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I am looking forward to the next lesson and I am already practicing. My goal is to improve my singing and perhaps one day be on a local stage playing a small part, something that has been in my system for many years! I believe Chris will provide me with the training that may one day assist me in achieving my goal.

I can instruct you on sight-singing and basic theory of harmonics, as well as building harmonies for yourself or your band. Singers need to understand about keys, meters, rhythm and other theory terms that musicians throw about.

About Wendy
I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.

I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

I teach beginning music theory to those new to it- all ages.
I provide worksheets and quizzes.

About Molly
I have been teaching for 16 years: kids, teens-even beginner vocalists in their seventies! Rockers, an "Idol" finalist, church musicians, lapsed opera singers, preschoolers. ...these are just a few of singers I have worked with, in person, in the classroom, and ONLINE (I just love teaching singers all over the country and the world!) .

What you get in voice lessons with me: laughter as you learn! I have learned solid classical vocal technique from the very best . I have trained with respected opera singers who have performed with companies such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, as well as leaders in vocal pedagogy. I believe everyone deserves the same useful tools- no matter what it is you like to sing!

I am patient and customize each and every lesson. Need more time on ear training? No problem . How about beginning music theory? I can
help with that, too. Are you feeling more confident, and want to focus more on song polishing and getting into the heart of your songs? Let's do it! Confidence an issue? I am a pro with very shy people. I'll get you out of your shell, relaxed, and having fun right away so we can free that voice of yours! I have worked with many singers who have been diagnosed with anxiety: you're in good hands and you can trust me with your voice.

I am also a drama teacher who has worked with groups as well as individuals. I love working with beginning acting students! I'll assist with monologue prep, improvisation, voice for the stage, body awareness, and more. I love being on stage and want you to see how fun it is to jump in and let go,too!

I am a constant student in the world of theatre. I am currently taking many courses with the Drama Teacher Academy, and just received a certificate for monologue work ! Currently studying more improv and musical theatre techniques. I want my students to have as many skills as possible, no matter where their love for theatre or music takes them.

If you're interested in beginner ear training or music theory, I'd love to help you with that as well. I present it in a no-nonsense and fun manner! I'll provide you with simple worksheets to increase your confidence in learning the language of music, as well as run you through increasingly challenging patterns and sight reading for the ear training. Don't be afraid: I make it easy and customize it all. I used to be scared of theory,too- so I know what works!

I have been singing for over 20 years. Performances with the Lira Ensemble and Opera on Tap Chicago, and in master classes with international opera stars Alan Held and Lorna Haywood. Coaching with Collaborative Works Chicago and Rossini Opera Festival. Additional studies in Rock Vocals, Voice Care, Improvisational Comedy, Holistic Voice, Acting, Foreign languages, Dalcroze, Speaking Voice for Singers, , Commercial Vocal Styles/Belting with Lisa Popeil, teacher mentoring workshop with Maestro David Jones. Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Additional workshops in Vocal Pedagogy with David Sabella-Mills, Dr. Karen Prokop, Melissa Cross (the queen of healthy scream technique!), Sheri Sanders Rock the Audition training), and Chicago Cabaret Professionals.

Certified CoreSinging Instructor- one of only a few in the U.S. trained by Meribeth Dayme, PhD, respected clinician and authority in vocal pedagogy and author of "The Singing Book".

Completed John Henny's New Science of Singing course. Currently taking Dr. Shannon Coates' "Vocal Instrument 101".

My students do a variety of great things! One was a top 12 "American Idol" finalist. Current students perform in musicals, top rated choirs, and professional rock , jazz, and blues bands. Many have won awards for their singing at competitions such as NATS. Students of mine have also been accepted to prestigious performing arts high schools for both drama and music, as well as undergraduate music programs in the US and Europe.

Proud member of NATS and the Speakeasy Cooperative, a professional group of independent voice teachers.

I think if you can speak, you can sing. Everyone can and should sing! Don't let anything hold you back. I am a people person that is very passionate about music and singing, and want to be the teacher you'll trust with your voice. Come laugh and learn with me!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach in person (Northwest Suburbs of Chicago) and online via Skype, Zoom, or FaceTime or TakeLessons Classroom, of course!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Sing and See Software. Additional materials I use: Funky n' Fun Vocal Exercises, Estelle Liebling Vocal Methods, Bona and Dannhauser for sight-reading, Full Voice workbooks for young and serious singers!

Music Theory can be tough to grasp at first. We will show you how fun music theory can be once you figure it out. We will go over whatever you want to learn, if you have specific concerns, or we can start fresh and just move forward from there!

About Judi
Hi everyone! I've been teaching in a variety of areas for many years in many different respects. I teach voice lessons, and audition coaching. I've been doing that for a long time! During my "day-job" years, I was an analyst, and I'm especially skilled with Microsoft Excel. And I LOVE teaching people how to make magic on that program. I have done projects that included creating databases, training departments on the use of said databases, taught entire departments at Jet Propulsion Laboratory how to migrate to Microsoft Outlook from (the archaic) Eudora.

My musical talents run parallel with my affinity for numbers. In my life, it has manifested in music composition, arranging, and musical direction. And, of course, PERFORMANCE! I've performed in and around the Los Angeles area for many years. I own a professional Christmas Caroling co
mpany that I direct and sing in as well. So I'm a performer, and a small business owner! So come see what I can offer!

Hi :)
I am a professional singer and piano player.
I have a band called Viva Vox and we are very popular in the whole Europe.
Beside that I am a composer, MTV songwriter, violin player and I have a bachelor degree in Music Production.

Whether you are a beginner or a professional musician my Music Theory Lessons are far from standard ones, because music theory is so much more than just a theory :)

Beside learning the basic of the music theory, we will explore the genre you are most comfortable with, analyze your favorite songs and learn what are the "perfect" chords, we will master the scales and learn how to combine them together, how to compose your own song that you will be so proud of and also how to play piano (in case you don't know how to play it) because piano and music theory always goes together :)

He was a wonderful teacher and became a dear friend. Always the biggest support! When we started our lessons I was really skeptic how everything will work out and I never thought that I could handle any lesson more than a month, but we ended singing for more than two years in a row! Bryana is an awesome teacher! Very thorough and patient. My daughter just started learning to play the flute and has never played an instrument or read sheet music. Bryana made her feel comfortable and at ease. Looking forward to next session!!
