I strive to create an environment in which students are inspired to discover, create, learn, express themselves and have fun. I focus on strengthening students' foundational techniques, through scales, etudes and other materials and then applying those skills in pieces and songs that are designed to build a good basis of musical knowledge, helping students to become confident in their musical abilities.

In our first lesson, you will learn about the parts of your instrument, how to care for it, and how to hold it. You will even learn some notes and begin reading music! By the end of your first package of lessons, you will be able to play with lovely tone, using the bow as well as plucking, and will have a handful of simple songs under your belt.

Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. I teach traditional classical, using either Suzuki or Essential Elements, depending on your learning and self-motivational needs, and I also teach fiddle music, including Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and alternative styles. *Please check my availability before signing up, as my time slots are quickly filling up!* I look forward to meeting you! Rachel is a terrific violin teacher. My daughter is 13 and she starting taking violin lessons last year and now she has progressed so much from when she just begun. Rachel is really kind, patient, and funny. I highly recommend Rachel for violin lessons!!

My two daughters, 13 and 16, have been taking lessons from Rachel for about a year now. They were beginning and intermediate levels. Both of them have enjoyed working with Rachel. She has kept lessons fun and engaging and we have seen a lot of progress. My daughters love celtic fiddle songs and Rachel has helped them play more on pitch and taught them some neat techniques. Rachel has also been very patient with our scheduling changes and is a great communicator.
Cindy
Rachel is a terrific and inspiring fiddle teacher. Lessons were focused on achieving my goals (which I did) but lots of fun too. Rachel is great at suggesting a number of approaches to improving your skills and also suggested some great new fiddle tunes! I highly recommend Rachel for fiddle lessons.

Mark is a smart, talented, and highly responsive teacher. His knowledge of the material (jazz piano) is evident, as is his skill. Every lesson he encourages me to reach out with additional questions or ask for additional resources, and he's quick to provide a lead sheet or hand-written notes explaining music theory. He explains concepts well, is patient, and encouraging. I think of Mark as a guide to help me on my musical journey, and he's been a wonderful guide (at a great price).

My son has been taken from Nikita for 7 months now. What a difference the months has made! My son is enjoying the instrument more and more, he's more confident in making good sounds, and the best of all, from Nikita he's learning how to be mindful when playing.

Nikita simply is the best."

How Are French Violins Made?

Violins as we know them today really started to evolve from the 16th century. In fact, Andrea Amati, the patriarch of that violin making family, was born in 1505, although it wasn’t until 1555 that he created his first violin at the request of an Italian statesman by the name of Lorenzo De’ Medici. By the end of the century, his grandson, Nicolo, had been born and it was he who would eventually become the most eminent member of the family. They hailed from Cremona, a city in the north of …
