Rina taught my son oboe lessons for two years. She was the perfect mix of being approachable, friendly, knowledgeable, and serious about teaching oboe. When I was looking for a teacher I was especially concerned that I find someone who would go beyond teaching how to play the notes, and would get deeply into the technique - the real details of articulation and all of the performance points specific to the oboe. My son always ended lessons being motivated to practice and enjoying the experience. He also mentioned that he learned more in a single lesson with Rina than in months with other teachers. I recommend Rina as an oboe teacher without reservation.

You can play what you can hear. I work on developing the student's mental concept of how a particular piece of music might sound. This solid musical thinking translates into a reliable technique. Technique should come naturally and should not be overly thought, but I will explain what seems to work for me and analyze the student's playing.

Beginning students start with a method such as the well-known 'Piano Adventures'. Lessons should include some study of theory. More advanced students will work on progressively more demanding literature.

My adult students say I am insightful.

About Graham
I am a Piano Performance major at The University of Akron. I currently study with Philip Thomson, and my past teachers include Laura Silverman, Douglas Hicks, and the late Eugene Mancini. I have experience teaching six-year-olds, retirees, and those in between. I am patient and encouraging.

I am available to teach in the student's home or online.

Piano studies overview:

You can play what you can hear. I see that students have a well-rounded approach towards musicianship and playing. Lessons should include theory, ear training, etc. to ensure that students understand what they are playing.

Beginning students might start with a method such as the well-known 'Piano Adventures' by Faber and Faber. More advanced students will work on progressively more demanding literature.

In a piano lesson, we will cover many different aspects
of playing. The student and I will analyze a new piece of music in various ways while coming up with an idea of how it sounds. I will play the piece and make practice suggestions. The student will play prepared pieces, and I will make suggestions. I value spontaneity.

My adult students say I am insightful.

Aaron teaches piano to my 8 year old daughter, Abby. She is shy but loves piano and she very much looks forward to his visits! He customizes her lessons to her skill level and interests. No question he is a serious musician, but he is also laid back and funny which is perfect for young kids as it puts them at ease. Abby is thriving under Aaron's instruction, I'm so glad we found him!

In each lesson we expand our learning by varying or focus from rhythm and theory studies, technic lessons, and literature. Depending on the age and experience of the student I teach from various methods. Some lesson books we use are Bastien, Alfred, and Belwin.

About Krystal
I began teaching piano lessons when I was a junior in high school at a local music store where I grew up. After high school I attended The University of Akron and received my Bachelor's of Music in Music Education with my main instrument being flute, while also continuing to study piano and voice. I currently teach music in the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District and teach private lessons out of my home studio in the Garfield/Maple/Independence/Valley View area.

I have years of experience in teaching music, and I enjoy working with people! While an undergraduate at Bowling Green, I received the Lakofsky Piano Award. Although I have used a number of piano books and methods, I am currently using the Faber series with some additional materials of my own. My students have had great experiences at OMEA contests and other performances. I understand that each student is different and am accustomed to personalizing my instruction to meet each student's needs.

About Gretchen
I am Gretchen Weaver, and I began playing piano when I was 8 years old. I also play a number of wind and percussion instruments. I have 2 college degrees and have taught elementary, middle school, high school, and college bands and classes as well as piano lessons for 26+ years. I have had students perform very well at OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contests and have served as an accompanist on many occasions. I have been teaching children and adults piano lessons for 10 years now. I have my master's degree in music from the University of Utah. I work mainly on classical music, but we can work on any type that you are interested in learning. Students for me have been as young as 4, and as old as 65. My only criteria is that my students be able to read, count, and sit for the lesson.

About Sharon
Hello everyone,

I am a mother of a beautiful little girl, and have been teaching piano for 10 years. I have a passion for music. Music helps children and adults to learn, improves grades, focus, and their ability to express themselves. In such a busy world, it is a blessing to stop and delve into music. I want to teach children and adults to appreciate this art and make the most of themselves like I did.

I started to play right before college. I then graduated with a master's degree in music. I play flue and violin as well, but my main passion is piano. Life is short, so I want to enrich my life and yours if I can.
