"Experienced drum teacher of 15 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of rudiments and reading. I specialize in rock, funk, jazz, and world music. I use an assortment of books, mostly hand outs, and also have the following tools available to use during lessons: sound recording equipment, sheet music, and more. Let's grab some sticks and rock and roll!"
About Aaron
"I love watching young musicians grow into seasoned players and have had tremendous success with all my students. I believe that learning songs and playing music is a critical element in the learning process of becoming a good drummer/pianist, and musician. This is why I bring a powered PA speaker, mp3 player, and (sometimes) a guitar to my lessons for the student to play along with and learn familiar songs. Over the years I've learned to strike a balance between Reading/Rudiments and Playing/having fun, so as to maintain students interests and growth."

Lessons are customized for the students based on their interest and experience. I will cover the basics and rudiments with new students but allow them to create and follow their own musical path using a variety of methods and musical styles.
Learn to read, write, and play different styles of music with accompanying techniques and fills to add to your groove development.
About Aaron
I teach drum set in nearly every style and hybrid imaginable, as well as percussion and drum circle facilitation.
Accomplishments include recording 7 albums with various groups, touring with national acts across the west coast, drumming for the Warner Brothers Television house band, and still actively playing live shows and recording.
*** Lesson Deta
I put my focus on inspiring students to explore their own creativity with the tools and techniques that I give to them and nurture.
I think it is very important to cover the basic skills that the school districts expect from their music students (sight reading, proper technique, note recognition, rudiments, timing, feel, etc.).
I also feel it is important for a student to find his or her style and an ability to use the fundamentals to create music that they enjoy.
He has written a method book based on the fundamentals of playing a rhythmic instrument with an emphasis on allowing the student to find their niche and lead a group through a piece of music or tastefully support it.
My studios are fully equipped with sound systems, the latest recording gear, acoustic and electric sets, hand drums and dozens of other percussion instruments. I believe that the more resources a person can draw from, be it intellectual or physical, the more fulfilling the learning experience will be.
Each lesson, my students will take at least a page of music that represents the concept that they are focusing on, and a goal set to accomplish by the end of the week so that they can build upon what they already know in an effort to put the big picture together. Ultimately the student will learn when and how to utilize the concepts that they are practicing.
*** Studio Equipment ***
A Yamaha electronic drum set in my Mesa Studio allows me to control volume and dial up any sound imaginable. I have full acoustic drum sets in other studios that I use for recording and private lessons. Often I will integrate guitar, keyboard, or other instruments in to the lessons if needed.
*** Travel Equipment ***
Sticks, Practice Pad, tuning kit, binder and books with teaching supplements.
*** Specialties ***
Music, Drums, Percussion, Theory, Composition, Piano and Guitar.
Drummers should be well versed in all genres of music. Rock, Jazz, Latin, Swing, etc.
Most of my students begin with concert and marching styles on a practice pad, then advance to the drum set.
I teach note recognition and placement, rudiments, linear playing, moeller method, rhythm theory, sub-division of notes and time, and the sight-reading to support these techniques.

I've been teaching drums and percussion for 10 years and my students have gone on to be accepted into top ensembles, record and produce tracks of their own, and have performance careers. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play basic rhythms on the drum set, and start recognizing different stylistic patterns. You'll also develop a strong sense of time. As time goes on you'll be able to play along to any song just by listening, and even create your own drum groove to new music! I specialize in rock, pop, and funk styles, typically use Joel Rothman's drum books as well as my own PDFs. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

With private teaching experience and a degree in Jazz Composition & Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, Granville adopts the teaching methods of the accomplished performers and educators who instructed him, such as the late Joe Morello(Dave Brubeck), Terri Lyne Carrington (Grammy Award winning artist), Dave DiCenso(Hiromi, Josh Groban) among others.
Granville's curriculum centers on the building blocks; great technique to empower flexibility in his students. He uses methods perfected by Alan Dawson (The Rudimental Ritual), Gary Chaffee (Odd Time Stickings), Sanford A. Moeller (The Moeller Technique), and other great teachers while employing methods he has found successful through his years of teaching. When necessary, music theory elements are employed to teach song form, dynamics and overall musicianship.
Granville is also a composer, producer and touring artist which will aid in creating focused progress if and when the decision to grow in a career direction is ...

I have taught privately since I was in high school on my own. Over the years, I have also been affiliated with some amazing entities. Additionally, my work in arts administrative (Brooklyn Academy of Music -BAM, UVA Music) translates into my ability to show you skills that will garnish success when you aren't playing music.
My students can expect growth in knowledge of rhythm, understanding of music and song forms. Your timing will improve! Your feel for styles (blues, rock, jazz, hip hop, EDM, etc.) will improve! Your technique will be through the roof!! I empower my students to do whatever they can dream to do with music, whether it is for personal enrichment or personal ambition.
I will demystify anything you feel is outside of your reach and grow you into the musician you want to be. My private studio is a fully equipped playground for the musically-minded with all the tools and materials you need to grow as a musician, so all you need to bring is your imagination. I look forward to the journey.
