I've been playing the classical piano repertoire since I was 5 years old, with many of the landmark pieces under my belt and a full proficiency to sight-read even the toughest material. My interpretive stance is liberal but I love focusing on the finer points (bringing out melody, harmony, focus on theory/form, etc). Remember there's more to piano than classical--concert music should include baroque, romantic, post-romantic and 20th century piano music as well as selections from more popular avenues.

About Oliver
Hi, I'm Oliver Devine E, a professional musician currently residing in north Brooklyn.

I graduated from NYU in 2005 with a degree in theory and composition (after completing 2 years as a jazz performance major). I played in the rock bands Arpline and The Kiss Off and recorded for Universal Records with the super group Pure Love. I currently record and perform under the monikers Aeolian, Negation, Afterworldsmen, Sandglass and Marlowe Dies as well as performing live with the post-punk band Cloak.

I've been teaching both piano and music theory lessons since 2006 and have had great success with students, several of which I have forged mentor-student relationships with. With my vast knowledge of esoteric and popular music genres (I'm comfortable with folk, death metal, modern jazz, indie rock, hip-hop... well, you get the point. I'm a
music obsessive) I believe becoming a total musician should be a goal for any student but I enjoy the challenge that each individual brings to the table.

I'm currently attending Hunter college to get a Master's degree in Music Education (K-12).

*** Lesson Details ***
In the past I've tailored lessons based on the specific needs of my students.
For example: someone who can read music based on childhood experience, but is struggling to regain confidence, could use technical exercises, piece-learning w/ structure and theory insights, as well as genre work outside their comfort zone. For a total beginner, reading music might be a long haul; so strategies for learning simple tunes and more general theory insights are a must.

Curriculum I commonly use for piano/theory includes, Hannon, easier Bach repertoire, Beethoven/Mozart/Chopin/etc,, The Jazz Piano book, Tonal Harmony, This is Your Brain on Music. Because of my extensive relationship with a wealth of texts, I never just rest on my laurels and will find the right material for you (even if that means printing or e-mailing pages from my own collection)

I'm fairly laid back compared to many teachers, but as a forward thinking, well-rounded musician (music is my life) I will revel in pushing students to max out their potential, no matter what their experience level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
High-end digital stage piano, midi keyboards, music software, guitars, sax, trumpet, snare drum, small studio set-up (microphone, interface, etc).

*** Specialties ***
Very adept at explaining music theory and the dissemination of practical information into piano lessons. The solo piano repertoire from the 18th through late 20th century is another specialty. The students I've had most success with range from absolute beginners to advanced professionals, but all seem to have a broad range of music interests and curiosity for improvement.

I have only had a few lessons so far, but I am enjoying them. Oliver is very willing to rehearse music of your interest and is very helpful with any concerns you may have. He pushes you out of your comfort zone just enough and I feel that I am definitely growing as a musician. Great experience so far.

I've been taking piano lessons with Oliver for about a year now, and in just one year, my love and ability to play piano has surpassed my expectations. Oliver creates his lesson plan based on the individual's needs, and adjusts his teaching to match the students capacity to learn, making for a fun, relaxed, and comprehensive lesson each time.

Oliver has helped me not only understand theory, which helps with composing music, but also how to read and play sheet music. Like anything, you only get better with practice, but having a great teacher to guide you along the way makes all the difference.

I would recommend Oliver to any individual seeking to enhance his/her ability to play, read and/or write music, whether you are a beginner or an advanced musician.

Piano teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience in South America, Eastern Europe and the US. I tailor lessons according to my student's needs, and organize with them Music Recitals, so they can get experience sharing their talent with others. My studio is in the NY metro area, and I teach all levels and ages of students.

About Edelweiss
Master in Arts, Pianist, Classical Singer and Teacher. I started to teach privately in my original country Ecuador, in 1995. Then I continued teaching at the National and Private Conservatory of Music in Guayaquil, as a Piano teacher, Piano Accompanist, and later on as a Voice Coach for the Conservatory Youth Choir. I went to Ukraine in 2003 to get my master degree in Music with a major in Voice, and continued with my private teaching there. Once in the US, I continued with my private piano & voice studio, and with vocal and choral coaching in the NY area.

I enjoy teaching! It gives me a lots of rewards seeing the progress and enthusiasm of my students. I prepare recitals for them to be exposed to the performance experience, and for them to be aware they have a talent to share with their loved ones and the society they live in.

Katie was a wonderful violin teacher for my son (four years old at the time). Katie knew how to make learning music and the violin fun through games and various activities. She was attentive and patient, kind and encouraging. She worked with us to allow him to participate in the annual recital--she played a simple, beautiful song while he plucked an open string. She is reliable, accessible, and caring. Couldn't ask for a better, more qualified, and dynamic teacher than Katie to facilitate a positive musical experience a young child.

I greatly enjoyed my violin lessons with Katie. She improved my violin technique, encouraged me to tackle challenging solo pieces, and helped me prepare for youth orchestra auditions. She also guided me in producing video recordings for my college applications. On top of that, she is extremely patient and cheerful. Katie is the best!

I'm an experienced teacher of 20 years, specializing in jazz and classical piano. Lessons are customized and catered to the goals of each student. I believe a strong foundation in theory and harmony will help to put everything in context regardless of genre. All ages are welcome!

About Dan
I'm a professional pianist and composer with a passion for both performing and teaching. I have an undergraduate degree in music performance from Northwestern University, and a masters degree in jazz performance from NYU. I've released six albums with my band, and my music has been licensed for TV (WB) and film (Universal). My last album was featured on NPR's "Fresh Air," and I tour nationally and internationally while overseeing a teaching studio of about 20 students here in New York.

While my passion is jazz and I work in contemporary music, I've studied classical piano since age 4 and believe that a strong foundation in theory and harmony translates well to all genres while providing much needed context. My students are all ages and range in ability from beginner to professional. I teach out of a cozy studio in Boerum Hill, a
nd travel to students homes under the right circumstances. Whether your goals are reading music, reading chord charts, playing by ear, improvising, or composing, I always strive to make the lessons fun and stress free!

All ages are welcome as I have taught students from the age of 5 - 40! Everyone is different and I believe in creating a fun environment while teaching a structured curriculum. I intend to customize the class based on your individual desires and goals. But most importantly I hope to make you LOVE learning to play.

All students will learn the fundamentals of the following:

ear training
music theory

You will be playing your first song by the first lesson!

About Stephanie
I am a Music industry professional working at a major record label in New York City. I graduated from Providence College with a Bachelors of Music with a piano concentration and went on to get a Masters from Northeastern University in Music Industry Leadership.

I have played piano since the age of 3 and have experienced many different styles of Classical piano teaching. My goal is to provide a new experience for younger students learning to play that will encourage them to not give up! Students should expect to see progress in their technique from week to week provided they are practicing!

My goal is to make piano learning a fun interactive experience for you. I want you not just to learn piano by book, but to be able to "speak" music as it is your language. That's why the emphasis in my lessons will be on ear training, improvisation, learning chords, and learning various piano techniques. At the same time, I will acquaint you with music theory, as well as teach you how to sight read music scores and lead sheets. In no time you will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills that will make you confident in playing piano. You will be able to play pieces not only by famous classical composers, but also pieces that are popular in today's culture. You will also acquire improvisation skills that will make you confident in creating your own music.

My goal is to make piano learning a fun and interactive experience for you. I want you not just to learn piano by book, but to be able to “speak” music as it is your second language. That’s why the emphasis in my lessons will be on ear training, improvisation, learning chords, and different piano techniques. At the same time, I will acquaint you with music theory, as well as teach you how to sight read scores and lead sheets. In no time you will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills that will make you confident in playing piano. You will be able to play pieces not only by famous classical composers but also pieces that are popular in today’s culture. You will also acquire improvisation skills that will make you confident in creating your own music.

Piano has been a huge part of my life since I was six. I attended a music scho
ol in Ukraine where I was trained to become a professional performer with classical repertoire being my main specialty. I have performed for many concerts as well as been part of many competitions which made me confident in my skills.

I have accompanied for various events such as school graduations, school musicals, school choir, competitions, auditions, church events, Sunday services, and holiday events.

I have over 8 years experience in teaching piano to beginner and intermediate levels. I believe that it is a teacher's duty to instill the passion in students by finding a unique and creative way to get them engaged. I combine different methods when teaching music because that each student's learning experience and interest level is different. I usually want to get to know the person and try to establish connection and then I proceed to finding out what method will work best for them.
