I have been teaching Piano for 20 years now. I have taught students from age 2 1/2 - Adult. I was self-taught when I was a kid and begun taking formal lessons as a very young adult in my early twenties. I graduated from CSULB with my BA in Music with a concentration on Voice. As a Music major, you spend a lot of time at the Piano. I became a member of MTAC in 2004 and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1998. I have a great passion for Music and a bigger passion for the Piano and sharing the wonders of how beautiful the Piano really is.
*** Lesson Details *** In my opinion, piano is the hardest instrument to learn, but the most rewarding. If you can play piano you can pretty much play any instrument. I believe that a piano lesson should be fun. I'm a strict teacher with a smile and a giggle. I push my students to greatness while helping t
hem love the piano through the good times and the bad. I'm a very encouraging but honest teacher. I compliment when warranted and I assess incorrect performances in an honest, but encouraging manner. I always let a student know that, though their performance was not their best, they can and will improve. It's always only a matter of time. I use the Schaum and Nevin series depending on the student's personality. I teach Classical and Pop Music. It's important for a student to learn the Classics and gain the ability to play things they like. I find the happy balance between the two. I teach Beginning to Intermediate levels. I also like to incorporate Music theory into the lessons because understanding the mechanics of Music helps make playing and creating Music much easier to accomplish. A typical lesson will start off with a hand drill warm up. We then will move on to the lesson book and repertoire. Theory will be assigned as homework. I look it over at the beginning of the lesson and discuss it and answer any questions in the last five minutes of class. Baby lessons go as followed: 15 mins. of play time and 15 mins of Music theory. I like to keep structure in my lessons but sprinkle a little joy and laughter to keep the atmosphere light. It makes for a much more attentive Piano student.
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect the student to have a Piano or Keyboard of some sort. I may provide music on occasion.

Getting cast in Broadway shows, winning first place in national dance competitions, receiving perfect scores on vocal/piano NYSSMA solos, and being accepted to
some of the most competitive college programs in the nation are just a few of her clients’ many accomplishments.
Today what's the first lesson for my two girls with Carolyn. All I can say but the lesson was absolutely amazing my girls came out extremely inspired with lots of exciting homework to do they couldn't wait to show me what they've learned and couldn't wait to start practicing Carolyn was everything we were hoping for and a lot more. I have no doubts that would have made the best choice who could possibly make. My girls can't wait for their next lesson.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏👏

Carolyn was very helpful! I’m looking forward to our next session.
Before beginning the lesson, I ask the student what he or she wants. What does he or she specifically want to learn or gain from dance lessons? My lessons are completely tailored around my student's wants and needs. Dance is supposed to be a fun, relaxing form of expression, so I like to help my students express themselves through movement in a way that is comfortable and fun for them.
I have been dancing in some form or fashion since the age of 3. I did ballet and tap recitals in preschool, took recreational gymnastics and cheerleading classes in elementary school, and did allstar dance and allstar cheerleading in middle school and high school. When I went away to college, I continued to take classes in many dance styles when I had time. I have never lost my love for dancing. My favorite styles are modern and ballet. I currently own a studio in the DFW metroplex and am excited to expand my teaching to online students!
My specialty is teaching tap as a musical instrument. For me, the movement serves the sound rather than a visual effect. No matter if you're a beginning, intermediate or advanced student, you will discover the potential of the human body to help internalize musical concepts such as phrasing, form, improvisation, and self-expression, as well as gain organic access to complex musical structures. Whether your focus is on building tap dance skills, seeking to connect body and mind in a profound and musical way, or are a musician who wants to become more connected and physically involved with the groove within - you are in the right place with me. The tap steps are merely tools to access your unique voice. My tap lessons combine technique, improvisation, and combinations with mindfulness, breathing, and body awareness exercises. Find the groove that is within you!
I am a tap dance musician, writer, and visual artist. My performance credits include Thomas Marek's show NOLA, the sound art/tap performance Homöostep, the Tap Ahead Festival, and Daniel Luka's T.A.P. My current main project is Neosole, which explores tap as a music instrument, as a full member of the rhythm section, not just soloing as a gimmick on top of the music, but being fully integrated, comping and providing a foundation for the musical context. I have been invited to teach at renowned facilities such as tanzhaus nrw, tap club, and Rebeltanz, and to be a tap dancer in residence at Thomas Marek's Studio Footprints. My artistic works have been featured in publications such as Average Art, The Tap Love Tour Podcast, What Moves You, and Not Random Art. I first started tap dancing at the age of 10 under the direction of my Mom.
From then on, I was influenced by many different teachers and mentors, such as Barbara Duffy, Sebastian Weber, Pia Neises, Derick Grant, Sarah Petronio, and Heather Cornell, to only name a few. I graduated from the tap dance apprenticeship S.O.N.T.I. with magna cum laude. I consider myself a musician, and the tap shoes are my instrument. My style is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of jazz music and heavily shaped by playing in numerous jam sessions around Europe and New York City, however, my art transcends the boundaries of genres. It is merely a tool to create the most genuine and sophisticated expression possible. A catalyst to explore art as an extension of the human experience. I call myself a tap dance musician because neither dance nor music could exist without the other. However, I don't move to look a certain way, I move to sound a certain way.
Tap is a fun style of dance that combines percussive footwork and rhythmic choreography for a great workout. My tap lessons include a warm up, technical training, across the floor, choreography, and improvisation. We begin with the basics while focusing on correct technique to build a solid foundation and style. From there we continue to build skills by adding more advanced patterns, intricate footwork, challenging techniques, and choreography. From classical roots to more contemporary adaptations, tap offers exciting dance training to people of every age and skill level.
Book Tap lessons if you're looking to: -Strengthen and tone your legs, core, backside, and more -Increase stamina and endurance -Improve balance -Understand how to count music and find a beat -Improve coordination -Understand musicality, tempo, and timing -Find and maintain rhythm with and without music -Improve your dancing to music ...

I had not taken a dance class in over 30 years so I was a little nervous about my first class back. Jessica immediately made me feel at ease - she was very clear and precise in explaining the basic steps and my confidence was restored! Her class is challenging yet a lot of fun! I would highly recommend her for children as well as adults.

I’m also a BFA Musical Theatre Major where I have continued to train in all areas of dance. I’m also a dance teacher at a company called Show on the Road. And I’d love to expand my knowledge and experience with more students.

"After signing up for Sean's tap dancing lessons, I was a bit concerned I wouldn't be able to keep up. I've seen his performances, and he is top notch. Sta
rting out, I had no rhythm or skill.
We started out with in-home lessons, and after just 4 hours of training my wife was ready to buy the shag carpeting I'd always dreamed of!
All kidding aside, Sean is a fantastic teacher and a great friend. I would highly recommend taking a lesson with him for any of his many talents. He is easy to talk to, listens well, and provides great feedback. Thanks, Sean!"
"Ferlyn is professional and accomplished yet she condescends to me as a novice iin such a patient, warm and kind way. I never realized how much i could lea
rn. I had the idea that i would suffer under the tutelage of a harsh dance taskmaster that you learn about in movies and books. NOT SO; i look forward to my class which is such a pleasure!"
"Jordan is such a great teacher! In only 5 lessons I’ve learned so much more than I ever did previous classes. Can’t wait to learn and grow more with her!"
"I am a beginner, so Jessica did an amazing job at breaking down the basics for me while still making things fun. I learned so much in just a short amount
of time in Jessica’s class - she’s the best!"
"My little just started dancing because her big sister dances. She is a shy one but warmed up to Miss Chrystie and loves tapping with her. She plays music
that she loves and is helping her learn how to tap dance in a fun way!"
"Great first time tapping at 72, Carolyn was great"
"Learning new steps every week"
"I have been learning tap dancing from Sean for awhile now, and the experience has been very positive. He's a skilled and encouraging teacher."
"Carolyn was a tremendous teacher. I just wanted to understand the basics and she was able to provide an excellent foundation. I think that it's likely tha
t I'm much (much) older than the usual student that's interested in tap, and Carolyn managed my own limitations with skill and good humor. Oh, and besides being a great teacher, she's an amazing tap dancer!"
