I believe that the most important aspect of learning is a positive and comfortable environment that encourages and facilitates growth! My studio ranges from ages 9 to adult and from beginner to advanced.

Through my own studies I have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies, and have developed my own method to help my students progress quickly and efficiently.

Every lesson will begin with a discussion about the students practicing so that we can celebrate growth and work together through challenges.

Students will be asked to study technical and tone exercises as well as repertoire that will help them progress in the necessary areas. I will help my students choose pieces that are appropriate and enjoyable.

If a student would like to study a popular song then I will gladly write my own arrangement for them. We can also learn to play by ear and improvise.

For my online students I will record solos, duets, and piano parts to pieces that we cannot play ...

I have been playing the flute for over 15 years and am excited to teach students of all ages and abilities! I structure my lessons around the students’ goals, whether it is to play professionally or simply as a hobby. This allows students to progress at a comfortable rate and grants them freedom of repertoire choice, while still encouraging a strong foundation in fundamental skills (breathing, phrasing, technique, posture, music theory). Lessons also focus heavily on body awareness, so as to prevent common injuries.

The 15-minute lesson option is meant for students who wish to take recorder lessons as preparation for future flute-lessons. The 15-minute price is equivalent to a 30 minute recorder lesson.

About Mona

I'm an active flutist and Japanese enthusiast currently living in Boston, MA! I hold degrees in Flute Performance from New England Conservatory and the University of Washington, and recently completed my Fulbright year at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. I have taught flute privately for over 8 years. I believe that lessons should be fun and informative. I also believe in hard work and collaboration. I expect students to be prepared for each lesson with all necessary materials and eager to learn new material each week. As I mentioned earlier, I believe lessons should be collaborative meaning that the student and I will decide together what materials are best suited for their goals and needs.

About Carey

I have a Master of Music in Flute Performance Degree with Distinction from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2008 and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance, Magna Cum Laude, from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia in 2005. I have studied flute under Christina

Debbie
I have been taking lessons with Carey for the past 1.5 years. She is a stellar teacher and flutist!. Carey is very professional in her method of teaching and started by gaining an understanding of my objectives and expectations. I'm a retiree and even though I played the flute in my early teens, it had been 50 years when I picked it up again. Needless to say, it was like starting over from scratch. But with Carey's help, guidance, and instruction, I've been able to evolve into a "decent" junior level flutist. Thank you Carey!!
Debbie
Carey is excellent. She is a very accomplished flutist with great teaching and people skills. Carey is extremely skillful in figuring out areas of improvement through careful listening and probing of questions. Her suggested applications of adjustments are spot on!
Deborah
Carey is an excellent teacher. She shapes each lesson to my needs and challenges and gives me great exercises and tips that have improved my performance.
