Cameron didn’t like his lesson, he LOVED it. It was his first lesson and Phil was extremely patient. He’s looking forward to future lessons and promises to practice! Thank you, Phil, we think we have a winner that will hopefully take time away from video games.

Phil is so wonderful. After I retired I wanted to learn to play the flute, so I signed up for 30 minutes. I signed for 30 because you never know if you and the instructor are going to get along. I discovered that while I was in session I did fairly well. But once home alone, I would end up in tears. I decided to go from learning the flute to learning the clarinet. I was afraid I would have to find another teacher, but no. Phil pulled out his clarinet and I have been happy ever since! He has a calm demeanor, never talks down to you, multi-talented and encourages you. I finally had to go from 30 minutes to an hour. I found I would have about 15 minutes of questions on symbols, word meanings, etc.; which only left me 15 minutes of actual music. So this may also be something to think about.

He has been playing and performing cello since the age of 8 and been involved with music his entire life. While attending school, Jonathan plays with the String Poets Quartet (D.C/Baltimore Areas) who perform at weddings, special occasions, and events. During the year, he plays with the Peabody Symphony and Concert Orchestras performing famous works from great classical to modern day composers. Shenandoah Performing Arts Camp Concerto Competition Winner- Performing Haydn C Cello Concerto, 1st Movement

Private Teaching Experience I have been teaching for 7 years with students of all ages and levels of playing

Methods: I grew up learning the Suzuki Book Method and this is what I prefer to teach my current students which I find great for beginner cellists! Major/Minor Scales, Arpeggios, and Etudes are some of the essentials I cover in learning the cello

Musical Concepts: music theory, proper bow technique, proper left hand technique, phrasing, rhythm

Lesson Overview: Gener
ally, lessons consist of a warm up with scale-arpeggio and warm-up exercise. After a warm-up, my students' focus on a specific piece of repertoire that pin-points a certain technique . Once I think the student has progressed through and mastered a specific piece to their level, we move on to more challenging repertoire learning new technical concepts and ideas. Lessons are a great way to help you progress much faster at the cello!

About Kyle
Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Teaching private music lessons is my primary job, so I have much experience and wisdom compared to teachers who teach "on the side." Students of all ages stay with me a long time because I am very flexible in my teaching and know how to interact with many personalities and learning styles, producing great results and progress. My specialties are piano, woodwinds, and music technology (i.e. recording and production).

Kyle is a great piano teacher! He is very patient with my 12-year old son. Just yesterday he referred to him as “fun Kyle” because he teaches him small songs on the side that he can show friends and family or are for upcoming holidays. He’s always punctual and respectful of our family and home. I’m grateful to have found him!

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

You are never too old to begin! I've worked with beginners of all ages.

Playing is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Scales are how we show off how fast we can play. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including folk/fiddle, pop, and movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the music that YOU want to play!

My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Alex is a truly gifted teacher. Teachers like her are rare especially when it comes to the arts. Not only does she make lessons fun but she also has the ability to put people at ease. Alex is also great at teaching those with learning differences. I Have extreme learning disabilities along with visual perceptual processing difficulties and thus have many blocks in place when it comes to learning things such as theory. No matter how long it takes me to understand something Alex is ever patient never giving up on me never getting frustrated with me. She has found many ways around many of the blocks that I have with theory. When I first began lessons with Alex I couldn't clap or count rhythm unless I had the main part. Since taking lessons with Alex I am now able to count rhythm better when I am not the main part. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a great teacher!

Never too late to begin learn cello! My lessons focus on both sightreading and aural skills to make a well-rounded musician.

I make sure I am meeting the specific needs of each studedent, help them reach their individual goals, and most importantly make lessons fun.

About Eric
I enjoy sharing my love of music by helping others embark on their musical journeys. I am a strong supporter of using a combination of aural training and sightreading to boost musicality and finesse.

In the past 6 years, I have taught students of all ages, ranging from children to seniors. You are never ever too old to learn the piano or the violin. You may not be the next Chopin, but with practice and dedication, you will eventually be able to play the mass majority of piano/violin repertoire.

Strong fundamentals (scales/chords/arpeggios) are important, but I also remember to make music fun and not boring by providing diverse selections of supplemental (pop/ragtime/blues) pieces.

Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! About Genevieve
I am a professional cellist, skilled in all solo, chamber, and orchestra settings. My playing has invited me into the top ranking music festivals in the world including Tanglewood Music Center, Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and many others. These opportunities have led me to perform with the New York Philharmonic.

Growing up, I studied with a Philadelphia orchestra cellist who prepared me for conservatory auditions. After being accepted into all 7 universities and conservatories I applied to including the Juilliard School, I decided to go to the Cleveland Institute of Music where I got my Bachelors of Music in cello performance. I studied with the former principal cellist of the Cleveland Orchestra, and also with one of the best Suzuki pedagogues in the country. I, then, got a Masters in Music in cello performance
from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music. There, I studied with one of the most internationally renowned cello professors in the world who has shaped me into the musician I am today. In addition, I got my Suzuki Certification in all 10 levels of cello books after completing a 2 year year rigorous Suzuki pedagogy program.

In my second year at Northwestern, I won a fellowship, covering my full tuition and acceptance into The Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This is the apprentice orchestra under the Chicago Symphony. We worked with all the conductors that came in to play with the symphony. Yo Yo Ma, the most famous cellist of all time, is the creative consultant for the Civic Orchestra and we got to work with him 4 or 5 times a year.

I have traveled and performed with my string quartet ATLYS representing Lincoln Center in New York City. We have traveled around the world playing crossover music, where we play arrangements of pop, jazz, folk, traditional, rock, indie, alternative, rap, but always return to the forever-beautiful classical quartets, as well.

Because of this, I have learned to play extended techniques on the cello and learned different styles of playing, like Celtic gigs and reels and cool jazzy bass lines. I think this is a fun unique quality that I can add to a student's cello development when studying with me.

I arrange music for string quartet, too. I think it's important for my students to also learn some basic music theory as it can develop a student's understanding of music at a much deeper level. This can make a student appreciate how a piece is created and where a phrase needs tension or where it needs to be released. It's very important for their musicality.

Genevieve taught me the most I’ve ever learned about the cello in a mere two months. Through her I was able to move through an entire Suzuki book while also learning every scale (including chromatic) without using open strings. The techniques she taught me helped further my music that I still use today. Before studying with her I was fourth stand in my high school’s orchestra. By the end of the Summer I was able to achieve first chair and all of the offered solos.

I am a professional violinist, violist and cellist. I've served as principal 2nd violinist with the Tampa Bay Symphony for 8 years. I've also played in numerous other groups like the St. Petersburg Opera, Space Coast Pops Orchestra, Bach Festival Orchestra and String Quartets for Weddings.

As a child, I wanted to be like Mozart and was inspired by cartoon and film music. So, I started composing at the age of 8.
My high-school orchestra performed and recorded two of my works.
I went on to Rollins College in Winter Park, FL in 2000 and earned a B.A. in Music Performance (viola). After graduation, I managed a violin shop for a few years and learned about string repairs and sales. I took some Suzuki teacher training in 2008 in NC and then taught at Sam Ash Music Superstore in FL for 9 years
where I wrote over 20 pop rock arrangements for st

My passion comes from darker sounds but I also enjoy light and dance-able sounds as well. I continue to practice everyday because there is always something to improve upon. I'm currently doing deeper study into the Bluegrass genre because it is fairly new territory for me. It's always exciting to learn new tricks!

Dawn is an amazing performer, theorist, composer, and teacher. It is more than obvious how much she cares about her students and their progress, and that they are taken down the proper path with solid foundations. In addition to outstanding instruction on string technique, Dawn provides a level of theoretical insight that I regularly use to blow the mind of my piano teacher. Having taken music lessons from over 10 instructors for over 20 years, none have taught me as much about what makes 'music' truly music as Dawn has.
