Phil is so wonderful. After I retired I wanted to learn to play the flute, so I signed up for 30 minutes. I signed for 30 because you never know if you and the instructor are going to get along. I discovered that while I was in session I did fairly well. But once home alone, I would end up in tears. I decided to go from learning the flute to learning the clarinet. I was afraid I would have to find another teacher, but no. Phil pulled out his clarinet and I have been happy ever since! He has a calm demeanor, never talks down to you, multi-talented and encourages you. I finally had to go from 30 minutes to an hour. I found I would have about 15 minutes of questions on symbols, word meanings, etc.; which only left me 15 minutes of actual music. So this may also be something to think about.

I've been playing guitar for over twenty years. Most of my teaching comes from my experience as a professional upright bass player. I start my beginning students in the Hal Leonard guitar method books. These books provide a solid foundation and walk through a lot of concepts at a good pace.

About Cory
I grew up around Atlanta, GA and started playing piano when I was around 7 years old and bass and guitar when I was 11. Most of my education has been on the upright bass. I've studied classical bass performance at major music schools on the east coast and in the midwest. I've studied and worked with musicians from many of the great orchestras around the world.

I enjoy working with students who are just coming to the bass, guitar, or piano for the first time and getting them started with music in a rewarding way as well as more advanced students that need finer musical direction or audition coaching.

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep a relaxed environment while still being motivating and inspiring. I tailor lessons around what the individual student's goals are. There are materials that I like to use with most students but I
'm open to using anything that meets the needs and desires of the student.

I try to find a nice balance of technique work and music. It's important to develop healthy technique from the very beginning. It's very easy to develop bad habits that can have serious health risks down the road (i.e. tendonitis, carpal tunnel, back pain, etc.) that can make it difficult if not impossible to keep playing. I've spent many years undoing bad habits that I developed from the first years that I played bass without any formal instruction. Yoga, Alexander technique, massage, and many great teachers have helped me overcome the issues I had and have helped me develop healthy habits. I try to pass this education on to my students so that they can have an enjoyable and healthy experience with music for the rest of their lives.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano and music stand. Living room with seating for parents.

The students need to provide their own bass and bow or guitar and music.

*** Specialties ***
Classical. I have studied with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and New York Philharmonic and my teaching and playing reflect the traditions of these teachers and orchestras.

My experience with Cory has been excellent. He is a good teacher who knows how to keep me going and understands my goals. I have temporarily with- drawn from the program as the erratic nature of my life and travel requirements makes it difficult for me to schedule reliably. Also, some problems with the communication software have, at times, made the learning difficult. Please understand that my decision to stop is in no way a reflection on Cory or his teaching ability. I will be glad to re-connect with him when conditions permit.

Having received a certificate in guitar performance from the Atlanta Institute of Music, a Bachelor's of Music in guitar performance from the University of Redlands, and currently attending the University of Southern California seeking a Master's in Studio/Jazz Guitar, he divides his time between performing live, doing recordings, and being an educator. I, myself, was a peer of Mike's at the University of Redlands. We both studied jazz guitar performance and have performed together on multiple occasions. Even so, Mike's ability as a performer far surpassed any of his colleagues'. In fact, his capabilities on the guitar were so outstanding that I decided that I would take lessons with him, in addition to regular lessons with my school instructor. To my surprise, the only thing better than listening to Mike's playing was his ability to transfer his knowledge to others.

His lessons are always conducted in a professional and friendly manner. I always left with a deeper understanding of music and as an improved player.

He is well versed in many styles and his professional experience as a musician is something to be sought after when looking for a guitar teacher. His understanding of the instrument and music theory will ensure that whatever questions you may have, he will know the answer. No matter where your skill level is, there will always be something to learn from this man.

I've been teaching guitar for 17 years and my students enjoy success both as private players and performers. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to manage basic chords and start to accompany yourself and, eventually, progress to more complex, colorful techniques. I have a relaxed teaching style and I specialize in those who have little or no experience.I have the patience to help them through those initial difficulties but I am also happy to teach anyone at any level of experience.

About Keith
Hi, there! My name is Keith Spratley and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 1998 and have loved helping my students achieve their various personal goals.

I went to The City University, London, and earned a degree and a doctorate in chemistry from 1971 to 1977. I'm an extrovert music lover (many different kinds) and have a wide ranging sense of humor. My teaching style is very relaxed and lessons are tailored to the needs of the individual. Music theory and composition are taught as required.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Keith is very enthusiastic in his teaching as well as very informed on many instruments. This makes the lessons very enjoyable and playing actually fun! Also he is flexible in scheduling, so if you need to move lessons around he is very good at accommodating that. Overall I would highly recommend Keith as a guitar teacher for anyone looking to get into guitar, or someone who already knows but is looking to improve! He is good at teaching the proper technique at first and then how to change that to make it easier to different chords, depending on how you can reach the right strings and frets.

Keith is a really nice guy and very knowledgeable. he not only knows guitar but several others as well. I bought a guitar and knew nothing about it, but he has been more than patent with me. His teaching style is very easy to follow and I've learned a lot, could have done a lot more if I'd followed his advice and practiced more. That's not his fault though! Each lesson goes over what I learned before and he throws in new things along the way. He seems to spend a lot of time before each lesson getting me new material for me to practice from and puts that music into "tab" form so I can follow it easier[and this is time he's not even getting paid for]. I will continue to take future lessons from Keith and some day with his teachings my wife might actually like my guitar. He's worth your time, so give him a try. Do you already play good? Go see him and he could help you to improve.

I just had my first lesson with Brett and he customized it according to my individual needs and circumstance. I am passionate about guitar and folk music but have no musical experience. Bretts plan is to start with the very basics and move forward from there. He was very patient with me and his directions were easy to follow. Though I am a senior I feel like I am 20 years old again and learning a new skill. Thanks Brett

Through the foundation I've gained by the influences of Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and Suzuki musical instruction methods, I compile my own teaching materials. Using personally constructed guitar lessons, I demonstrate, instruct, and guide the student based on my assessment of their individual needs, skill level, and progress. Lessons are formulated in Modules, and advancement through them is based on the student's personal aptitude, skill level, and practice commitment. Learning is accomplished by ear as well as through essential methods of musical notation (tablature, 5-line staff, rhythmic comprehension). Students are trained to perform written music as well as to write and express the music within themselves.
I'm an encouraging and motivating guitar teacher with a casual relaxed approach. Teaching new guitarists is very rewarding to me. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience.

About Scott
Through formal and self- instructed lessons from age 12, I've learned country, folk, blues, rock, and metal techniques and formed several local bands as lead vocalist and lead/rhythm guitarist.
Writing and recording my own music has been a hobby for over 30 years.

I love teaching guitar, been at it for a decade now giving lessons to many a satisfied student! Lessons cater to the individual's musical preferences. We can cover music theory, rhythm, ear training, proper technique, songwriting/composition, and most importantly whatever songs or styles you want to focus on. Send me a message and we'll get started!

About Dan
I studied guitar for 7 years through private instruction from a great teacher who not only taught me guitar and music theory, but taught me to teach it. I eventually began instructing alongside him at the music store where I learned, accumulating over 30 students, ranging in age from 10 - 70 (never too late to start!). I think what I love most about teaching is reliving the excitement of learning all over again with my students. Music is a rewarding venture, well worth the trip!
