Bass lessons with me focus on the importance of pocket, groove, and ear training for improvisation.
We will look at famous bass players such as Parliament's, Bootsy Collins and seasoned bassists Charlie Parker, Pino Paladino and Thundercat. The lessons will be curated behind the students goals/desires if that's creating unique baselines or learning songs and the theory behind them.

About Chaetan
Having played music for as long as I can remember (my father is an accomplished Jazz and Soul drummer), music has always been a key ingredient in my life. From playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme on the drum set as a toddler, I have gone on to learn electric/classical/lap steel guitar, el

I look forward to my weekly guitar lessons with Chaetan because he is a very knowledgeable, relaxed, and patient teacher. He tailors my lessons to meet my personal goals (learning those pinnacle acoustic songs). But as an exceptional instructor, he also guides me to meet goals he has for me as a student, such as learning to build chords on my own. The quality of his instruction has already increased my progress on the instrument. Overall, his talent and interest in music motivate me to practice so I am fortunate to have found Chaetan as my guitar teacher.
Chaetan is a very friendly instructor who tailors his lessons to meet both the experience level and type of music a student is interested in. Chaetan has a lot of energy and makes the lessons fun. He appears to know every aspect of what he is teaching as well as plays other instruments. My daughter and I are both very happy with Chaetan.

Bass guitar students start with five subjects.
1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.
2) Scales are part of the basic vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.
3) Intervals are also basic vocabulary of the musical language and progress into chords, and yes, bass players think and play chords.
4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the student's goals. However, I strongly encourage learning to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?
5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. And by the way, they are really fun to play, especially when interacting with other musicians or performing for an audience.
These five ...

Rob's lesson format is pretty open. If you have specific questions/goals, Rob makes sure that they are addressed. He's been able to give me some great information on various techniques and styles, and I've picked up a good bit of general practical bass knowledge this way.
Rob is VERY knowledgeable about music theory, and its evolution over the centuries. That being said, discussions on music theory are always made relevant to bass playing. This makes learning the theory and patterns very practical, and for me, more approachable.
Thanks Rob!"
