Learn about rhythm, melody, harmony, and dynamics, and how they apply to the french horn. Explore the range of your instrument through various scales. Build solid skills through understanding the mechanics of how your body and instrument work together.
I'm currently not taking beginner students on voice/singing, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Melissa though. Please check out her profile:
I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar cla
Philosophy of Learning
Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations. It's really important to know though that everyone makes their own experience. The process of learning music involves you learning as much about your own mind and body as it does any external concepts, so please keep in mind only you can move yourself forward.
I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.
I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.
Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)
*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I have been teaching French horn for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

I am a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, and I've played all over the world. I've played with soloists from Frank Sinatra to Diana Ross, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons to Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. I still perform and consider this important to my teaching as well.
Some major accomplishments include an invitation to the White House, over 50 solo performances with orchestras starting with The Philadelphia Orchestra at age 15, a performance for the Princess of Thailand, and early television performances starting at age 7. In order to accomplish these things, I had great teach
My teachers included Eleanor Sokoloff, Susan Starr, and Dale Clevenger.
I've taught for 29 years, and have a proven track record of success. I've taught at Universities including The University of Notre Dame, The University of Tennessee, The Chinese University and the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong. I adore my students. Each one needs to be assessed and taught differently. Something you cannot learn in school, only through years of experience!
I teach in Avondale-Kennet Square-Chaddsford, Bryn Mawr-Villanova, PA, Hockessin-Wilmington,, DE, Newark, DE, and Cherry Hill, NJ with possibility of travel 10 minutes away. Please note: If you want in home piano lessons, you need a reasonably high quality instrument, and must maintain the tuning. I have perfect pitch and it will be crucial to me.

All levels and ages welcome! Whether you are playing your first notes or you are preparing for a career, I would love to help you with your horn playing. I definitely emphasize technique and believe that strong fundamentals in breath control, articulation, and dynamic range are so incredibly helpful for the production of the gorgeous sound we all know and love in the Horn. My lessons differ greatly from student to student and I will work with you on any aspect of horn playing you would like to learn and improve.
About Me | Teaching Method
As a teacher, I find the most joy in seeing technical improvement translate into artistic freedom and musicality. I also just love sharing my nerdy love for the horn with young musicians!
I tailor lessons and take time to understand each student's pace of learning and playing style. I typically write out customized warm ups for each of my students that highlight aspects of horn playing that promote flexibility and teach music theory. I use etudes in not only a way that promotes technique, but also i

Want to learn how to play the Horn? I have been giving lessons to kids in Baltimore for years through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids program and now hope to expand. My goals as a teacher are to make a safe teaching environment with an emphasis on support and to further your own goals. All ages are welcome! Lessons will be catered to each student and you or your child will build a strong foundation that can be applied to all things in life! Send me a message and let's get started.
Horn players can expect to have a unique sound, and I intend to let the student harness that rather than stick to whatever standard of sound is preferred in our community. From my experience, horn players tend to build tension in the jaw, and as a person with TMJ (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction), I know how to recognize these pains and how to release tension and prevent it!
I have been studying classical horn playing for 7 years and have had experiences in various orchestras such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Ocala Symphony Orchestra. I am also a part of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival of the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018, a n
I have experience teaching young kids in Baltimore through the OrchKids Summer Program. I was a Brass Intern and taught the horn players and at times the trumpet players. From this experience, I developed patience and an even stronger love for teaching to play the instrument to which I am dedicating my life. I hope that you will consider me in your pursuit of finding a horn teacher for yourself or for your child.

I have been teaching for over 5 years and love working with horn players of all levels. I realize that each student is unique and always approach individual lessons with my student's particular goals in mind. I have a basic curriculum that I use in order to build a solid musical foundation for my students, but I am open to working on whatever kind of music or repertoire that they may enjoy. I love being able to expand my students' knowledge and appreciation of the world of music. It is always exciting to me when a student achieves a goal they habe set or learns a new skill that helps them in their musical expression.
I have been teaching privately and in group settings for over 5 years and really enjoy getting to pass on the knowledge and musicianship that I have received from my teachers on to the next generation.
I teach using a base curriculum but also love to work on pieces that students want to play outside of their main course.
Majestic, Beautiful, Noble, Heroic. The horn is a unique instrument, and an instrument many people say is very difficult to play. However, even in the early stages of learning the instrument, it is important to think about expressing the wonderful qualities of the horn, while still learning the technical aspects of the instrument. In my experience, playing as the President and Principal Horn of the Houghton Symphony Orchestra amongst other positions, learning to become a good musician is just as important as becoming a good horn player, so in my lessons I aim for my students to become both. Let us go forth and be better musicians.
I graduated from the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition, where I also studied Philosophy and Linguistics. I am currently working on a Master's Degree in World Arts with a minor in Linguistics at Dallas International University.
I have worked with ensembles such as the Youth Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Christ Church Fitchburg Choir, the Saxsquatches, and the A.D. Oliver Middle School to premiere new works. L
As a Horn player, I have played as a soloist, as well as in chamber ensembles like brass quintets and wind quintets. Additionally, I have played in numerous different large ensembles, in all four horn parts, including principal horn, and held office in many of them as well; I was the head field conductor of my high school marching band, and the president of the Houghton Symphony Orchestra during the 2017-2018 season to name a few.
I am concerned that my students are able to not only become better musicians, but to become better people, both intellectually and in terms of moral character . In pursuit of these goals, I think that musicians should draw from other components of their life to help them understand their own music more effectively. Because of this policy, I am willing to teach students of any skill level, and help them with whatever their personal goals are, as well as to push them to see their own music from other points of view.
I teach beginners, amateurs, and advanced students of all ages. Over the course of our lessons, you will not only learn how to become a better horn player, but also how to become a better musician. Musicianship topics that will be discussed are: etiquette, goal-setting, anxiety strategies, how to build a professional resume, and personal branding techniques. Every student receives a curated “horn book” that contains selected studies, warm-ups, a self-analysis, and a goal-setting worksheet.

The Horn is the difficult instrument, and yet we strive to learn it because of beautiful vocal sound it has the potential to create. My goal is to build strong fundamentals with a strong basis of efficient technique with a beautiful sound. My passion for teaching takes hold during the Maryland Wind Festival for which I have been on the faculty for the past two years. We perform concerts and give masterclasses to the students and adults in up-state Maryland.
My hobbies include anything outdoors (hiking, biking, rock climbing, etc). I am also a fan of staying in for the night to cook a nice meal and relax.
