A native of Japan, Maya received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts (東京芸術大学). During her violin study at the Tokyo University of the Arts, she earned her music teaching certificate for middle and high schools in Japan (中学校及び高等学校教諭専修免許状).

She finished NY Japan Society’s Japanese language Teacher Training Program (Introductory level) in December 2020.
She is currently finishing up the same program with intermediate level in March 2021.

Maya also has 10 years of experience for tutoring Japanese language, offering private and small group lessons to students of all ages. Her Japanese lessons cover everything from vocabulary and grammar, to culture, custom, and fun conversation of course!

As being a composer for short Anime films and having a Japanese background, I have worked with Japanese companies for many years and trained employees of different companies in not only speaking Japanese but also the business culture. But that is not all my classes are for everybody for those planning a trip to Japan. What's special of my classes is that we learn to have a conversation for different situations every week. I can help you with conversation skills, correct pronunciation and proper grammar. I usually use a textbook called ‘Genki’ for my lessons. I provide the textbook so you don’t have to buy it. With ‘Genki’ we can work on various grammar points, vocabulary building, situational role playing, pronunciation, and plenty of exercises to improve your listening and speaking skills.

I try my best to keep the classes as relaxed as possible so that you can feel comfortable speaking and can learn at your own pace.

As a native Japanese speaker, who has spent the last 30 years in the United States, I understand the structural and grammatical differences in the two languages. This gives me both the teacher’s and the student’s perspectives, which I find valuable as a language instructor.

I have taught Japanese to college students and adults, using beginning Japanese textbooks, and I am most comfortable teaching high school/college students and adults.
I can also teach conversational Japanese and/or customize the lesson to meet each student’s particular goals and needs.
