About Kim
For creative people and makers, crafting is like going to the gym. You will find great fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment if you set aside time on a regular basis to nurture this very important part of what makes you who you are. Think of me like a personal trainer. I will encourage and inspire you while you develop your skills and express yourself through a variety of textile based media.

Private and group lessons or classes are provided in locations around the NYC area, in my space or via webcam. My focus is on providing an entertaining, relaxing and enjoyable experience as you learn a leisure time activity. I am extremely patient and detail oriented. When you let me know what you would like to learn or make, I will guide you through everything from selecting materials to fine tuning your technique. Take a lesson with me to fi
nd out why my students love me.

Teaching is a wonderful extension of my work as a professional crochet and knit designer and technical editor. A web search will reveal some of my published work over the last decade. As a craft teacher in the NYC area for over 8 years, I have worked with individuals, groups and classes of all ages and skill levels. Most of my experience focuses on working with older adults and people with special needs. Minors must have a supervising adult present. I do not work with groups of young children.

I have studied the history and mastered the skills to make and teach a vast variety of textile techniques. Please see my experience.

If you are using this site without the assistance of a TL Rep, I recommend the schedule as you go option. I often have openings in my calendar sooner than the site allows. After we make contact, we can choose the best date and time.

*** Lesson Details ***
Please let me know what you would like to learn or make before your lesson so that we may be fully prepared with any materials, tools, equipment, books or handouts. Students are expected to provide all their own tools and materials unless other arrangements are made.

Recommended duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes. A surcharge may be added for travel outside of areas accessible by one MTA fare or expected travel time exceeding 90 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
Textile based crafts including crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, patchwork, plastic canvas, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, bobbin lace, historic textile and costume conservation and storage, and more.

I also love to research and develop craft projects for classes or master techniques students would like to learn.

About Rhiannon
My name is Rhiannon and I am a third generation crafter. Originally I went to school for art history, all the while crafting. Eventually I had enough of studying other people's work and instead wanted to make my own and empower others to do the same.

I consider myself to be the "Swiss Army Knife" of crafters. I have delved into nearly every craft and love passing this knowledge onto my students. For these reasons I have a diverse range of crafts I can teach, including: knitting, crochet, embroidery, hairpin lace, needle felting, and shuttle tatting. In addition to my passion for a variety of crafts, I also love teaching a variety of skill levels, from students beginning their first stitch to someone who wants to redesign a pattern.

With a positive attitude and a willingness to learn I can teach you any of a variety of crafts.

I'm enjoying my classes. I've been bringing Rhiannon stitches I want to learn without any notice, and she is always able to help me on the spot to learn them. Her flexibility (both in what I want to learn and in scheduling) makes private classes a pleasant and worthwhile investment. Highly recommend!

I am offering industry level sewing classes and pattern correcting and altering techniques that will cater to your needs. I will be able to teach foundation skills of how to operate a sewing machine, how to use a serger or how to use an industrial sewing machine. I will also teach how to hand sew, follow and understand a pattern and how to finish your work beautifully. I am also going to work with you on your own personal projects.
I teach hands on beginner’s patternmaking and sewing skills that you will need for garment production, arts and crafts and any project that involves sewing. For instance: I can help you make pillows, bags, aprons, stuffed toys and other hou
sehold items. If you want to make clothing, I will guide you through using a published pattern.
I will work closely with you to make sure you understand the project and to make sure you properly construct a quality finished project.
I have been sewing since I was in 3rd grade and was making doll clothes for my Barbie dolls and clothes for myself by the time I was in 9th grade. I also used to work closely with a Tailor/dressmaker as an apprentice during my summer holidays in 10th grade.

Students are expected to provide all tools and materials.

Recommended duration is 2 hours.

About Adenike
Hello,

My name is Adenike, you can call me Adé. I'm a trained fashion stylist and designer with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design from the University of Rhode Island.

I have taught sewing and design, to people of all
ages, genders, and abilities throughout my professional career. It began in 2002 when I decided to work with the Americorps, Teach America program. There I created and executed a lesson plan that taught students how to sketch, render, sew, read patterns and adjusts garments for personal to suit their personal needs. The program incorporated science, math, and history so that they had a practical and anthropological approach to fashion design. It was great, and I discovered that one of my other joys in life is teaching.

Most recently, I've worked with Hobby Quest, where I teach children in an after
-school setting. Hobby Quest requires an extensive background check because of that fact that work is done with students on school grounds. I can supply references that will attest to my professionalism and easy going nature.

***For both sewing and styling lessons, it's required that you schedule for a 60 minutes introductory session.
*** If interested in group sewing lessons:
- There is a min 5 students/ max 12 students
- Packages must be purchased in groups of 5:
Level A then Level B ( optional)

Know thyself is the saying, and it applies to chess as well.

Everyone is different. Each has his/her different objectives. Everyone also his/her own strengths and weaknesses.

I tailor the lessons taking these into the account, and focusing on improving on the weaknesses within the framework of the student's goals.

I try to put the emphasis on calculation, middle-game positions, and endgames, however.

I love teaching pool, especially to total beginners. I’ve developed some unique training games that help you make rapid progress while having lots of fun. It’s got to be fun!! For that reason, I’m great teaching groups at parties.

Over a decade ago, I got myself a job as co-editor of what became a big seller in the pool world, Phil Capelle’s “Play Your Best 8-Ball.” In late 2015, the Professional Billiard Instructors Association granted me the rank of Recognized Instructor.

Please note: Lesson prices INCLUDE payment for my "table time." it's not extra; it's included.

I can’t tell you how much how gratifying it is to see students progress rapidly, scoring points, pocketing balls, and having a high quality experience. My students think of me as a very patient teacher, willing to go over things many times. Take a lesson with m
e and you won’t regret it.

My friend and I were just playing a game of 8 ball and Dan suggested a game call loop . We were impressed at how much we learned about the tangent line and how we had to focus at where the ball had to go in order to stay at the table. Dan really improved my game with just 3 hours of lesson today. He also showed us 2 other games and both required us to play differently and it made us focus on cue ball control. I was smiling each time as if I discovered fire. Dan would walk us through why and how. I had a great time If i have time to play again i would call dan no doubt.
