My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and ...

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

I am a valuable teacher of singing to those who are too frightened and intimidated and want to see if there is something they can do in singing. I am firmly convinced that everyone everyone everyone can and should sing. all the world sings. I can work with you so carefully and tenderly that in time if you continue with your playful and fun exercises of a few minutes a day, soon enough you will need a more advanced and demanding teacher. That will not be me. Unless I too become more advanced, and I suppose that could happen but for now I will want you to move to another teacher and come back to me for what I am good at: the art and simplicity of it. Actually, it has happened!!! as of 2018, I have an MFA in Music with concentration in Voice so --- bring me your desires!!!

About Gina
As of May 20th, 2018, I am in New York City again and will be accepting new students as well as reconnecting with anyone who wants to return.
I've completed two graduate degrees: one in Music and the other in Dance and Theater studies.
My undergrad degree is from The Juilliard School and it is in Dance.

I've taught children and grown ups for many years. I have a strong performing career and love the way teaching keeps me in a giving and learning place.

*** Lesson Details ***
With beginning students I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials.

As an Acting teacher I have the capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I'm a membe
r of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and have studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London.

For Dance, I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. In Juilliard I specialized in historical dance of the French Court which is also known as pre-ballet. At present I am studying Tango and other ballroom forms and can teach the beginning levels as well as help choreograph for weddings or events. Of course I also teach Ballet and many forms of Modern Dance. I adore teaching dance composition. To help a dance student make their own dances is very fulfilling.
For the Visual Arts I teach Abstract Painting as well as Installation and Performance Art.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have supplies and space. Visual Art students need to contribute to materials by finding or purchasing whatever they like and adding to the mix. My students are welcome to use what I have here and I am always adding materials. Many people throw away materials that are perfectly good for art making so keep your eyes open and you'll find all kinds of good things. Visual Art students need to book a 2 hour minimum and I will lower the price if you just let me know you need it.

My fees: I start at a higher fee and after you've been a regular student we can lower the fee for you if you need.

*** Travel Equipment ***
just a space to work in - we can create a work space out of any space.

*** Specialties ***
In dance I teach classical ballet principles for beginners or those who are returning and want to work carefully and privately. I teach from the tradition of Alfredo Corvino's principles of relationship to organic forms and structures for sound development. I studied with Mr Corvino for years and continue to study with Ernesta Corvino.
For acting I teach a combination of classical acting technique with American sense memory and relaxation skills. I am well versed in the teachings of Lee Strasberg and then spent time in London to 'fill in the cracks' of my training with analytical skills as well as the various european influences that the Royal National embrace.
I teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry while learning actual classical devices for accomplishing specific goals.

About Tamara
Music has been in my heart since I was a small child. I loved it so much that after 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and 6 successful years in the computer field, I returned to school to study my passion...singing! While in the Air Force, I was a soloist with the Aviano Gospel Choir in Aviano, Italy, from 2000-2001, where we toured different cities in Italy to perform for music festivals and public concerts. During my time there, I also performed with different bands and began making a name for myself as a vocalist.

In 2009, I received my BA in Music from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville, IL where I studied classical and jazz voice. After graduating in 2009, I received a full scholarship to pursue my Masters Degree in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University, one of the premiere jazz programs in the United States under the d
irection of world-renowned jazz bassist and composer, Rodney Whitaker.

While studying at Michigan State University, I toured with the MSU Jazz Orchestra and performed at prestigious events such as the Detroit International Jazz Festival; the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL; the East Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival; the Lansing Jazz Festival; and the 2011 Elmhurst Collegiate Jazz Festival in Elmhurst, IL, where I was honored with an "Outstanding Soloist" award for Jazz Vocal Performance.

In 2011, I was also featured in I AM ENTERTAINMENT magazine where my music was described as "...sheer and unexpected delight! Her music takes you to another place. That is what great music is supposed to do." In May of 2011, I was also featured on the cover of REVUE Mid-Michigan magazine.

After receiving my Masters Degree from MSU, I moved to New Jersey to pursue my teaching and performing career. I currently teach private lessons and am the Founder and Director of Music Beyond Measure, which creates music recovery programs for trauma survivors. Formerly, I was the Vocal Jazz Ensemble Director for Jazz House Kids in Montclair, NJ. In addition to teaching, I also perform with different bands in the NY metro area.

I have been fortunate to perform with an elite list of jazz musicians, such as Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, Rodney Whitaker, Sean Dobbins, Perry Hughes, Wes Anderson, Ron Blake, Jim Alfredson, Etienne Charles, Diego Rivera, Steve Ritchko, Paul Keller, and many more throughout my jazz career. I also had the honor of being chosen to perform for a master class with Grammy Award-winning artist, Esperanza Spalding.

Although I am mostly trained in jazz voice, I work with singers in various styles, such as pop, R&B, gospel, and musical theater. Whatever style you are interested in singing, I know that I can help you to approach singing in a way that will maximize your vocal potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that music is for everyone! Whether you are a beginner or a professional, I want to help develop your voice in the healthiest and the best way possible. Whatever your goals are for taking private singing lessons, I will be happy to customize a program according to what it is that you would like to accomplish.

It is extremely important for my students to be well-rounded musicians. Whether you are a country or Broadway singer, you will learn how to sing using classical technique. Aside from technique, you will learn everything from how songs are constructed to how to lead a band and everything in between. No matter what it is that you want to learn, I guarantee that you will have fun while doing it and you will learn how to fall in love with your voice!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have an in-home studio with a keyboard, keyboard stand, digital recorder, microphone, professional amplifier, sheet music, binders, and pencils. Students don't have to bring anything.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When providing in-home lessons, I would prefer if the family provided a piano or a keyboard. However, if none of these are available, I will be happy to bring any equipment needed.

*** Specialties ***
Even though I am a jazz vocalist, I am happy to teach various styles, such as pop, R&B, gospel, musical theater, etc.

LESSON DETAILS

Whether you are a parent looking for instruction for your child, or for yourself, Rachel can customize the right program that best suits your needs. Her students come from all walks of life and have different goals, but they all have one thing in common. They love performing and have the desire to be the best at their chosen craft (singing/acting).

Some students want to sing/act for themselves, others want to sing/act for a hobby, and others want to be professional performers. That's where Rachel comes in. No matter what your goals are, she can help. Rachel teaches her students how to become true artists without tearing them down and without taking away the part of them that makes them unique. She teaches healthy technique that is based off of the human anatomy; the science of how the body/mind works and how the body/mind can work as efficiently as possible while singing or acting.

Learning how to sing/act is a process and doesn't happen overnight. Rachel's ultimate goal as a teacher is to not only make her students the best performers and singers they can be, but also give them all of the proper tools they need to have a more productive mind frame and become self-sufficient. Of course this can take years to master. It takes time and dedication.

OTHER LESSON INFORMATION

SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. STUDIO POLICIES-

CANCELLATION: 48 hour lesson cancellation policy and emergencies (determined by Rachel Menconi) are handled on a case by case basis. All students (or their parents/guardian if under 18) who have scheduled vacations and other activities (meetings, parties, school shows, concerts, rehearsals...etc) that interfere with the student’s regularly scheduled lesson time, need to contact Rachel Menconi as soon as the vacation/other activity is scheduled but no later than two weeks in advanced before their missed regularly scheduled lesson to prevent from forfeiting the lesson.

MAKE-UPS: Make-Up lessons will be scheduled if time allows. No Make-Up lesson or class will be given to ‘no shows’ or “late cancellation”, and no extra time to extend their lesson will be given to students who are late to their lesson or class. If there is ever a time Rachel Menconi is running late, extra time will be given to make the lesson a full 60 minutes. If Rachel Menconi needs to reschedule, a Make-Up lesson will be scheduled as close to the same week as possible. Make-Up lessons are scheduled at Rachel Menconi’s discretion.

ONLINE LESSONS FOR IN-PERSON LESSON CLIENTS: In the event that the student is sick but still would like their lesson, an online lesson will be scheduled instead. Students can NOT come to their in person lesson sick, coughing, sneezing, with a runny nose, cold, flu, allergies, fever, etc. (This is to make sure no germs will be spread).

An online lesson will also be scheduled if there is bad weather, if a student is having car trouble, or any other reason for the student not being able to physically get to Rachel Menconi’s private studio during their normally scheduled lesson time. Online lessons are conducted through FaceTime, Google, Hangouts, or Skype.

SCHEDULE:
Lessons are weekly, on the same time/day of the week unless we have rescheduled or we have discussed in writing another lesson plan. If the student’s lesson falls on a holiday, we will either reschedule or if no other day is available, resume the following week.

LATENESS:
If a student is going to be late they need to contact Rachel Menconi as soon as possible, to let her know they will be late. Lessons will end on time unless she is able to extend the lesson due to a late student or her schedule allows for it though please understand, Rachel Menconi would be extending a courtesy and would not be obligated to do so. If on the rare occasion Rachel Menconi is running late, she will always make up the time.

SITTING IN:
Parents/Guardians are ONLY permitted to stay for the first lesson and are NOT permitted to sit in for any other lesson/class unless invited. This is to promote good/strong teacher-student relationship quickly and easily. Also, many times students feel more comfortable when their parents/guardians leave.
Of course there will be times when the parent will be invited back in at the end of some of the lesson to showcase progress.

COMMUNICATION: Due to Rachel Menconi normally scheduling students one right after another without breaks, being in the recording studio, performing, or being on set, the best way to contact her is through text AND email. Please ALWAYS leave messages when calling Rachel Menconi with your name, contact info, AND the reason you are calling. Please be specific. Thank you!

"I try to be as fair as possible to both parties when it comes to cancellations, rescheduling, lateness, and make ups. Have a concern or question? Just talk with me. I'm all about communication!" - Rachel Menconi

My 9 yr. old daughter received singing lessons with Rachel. Rachel was SO wonderful, patient, and creative with every session with her. She was constantly coming up with different ways to keep her engaged and was always reassuring her to increase her confidence. She gave great constructive feedback on how my daughter was doing and what she can work on to improve. I give her 5 stars! Thanks so much, Rachel!

Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.

Taking lessons with Rachel has been one the best decisions I've ever made. She not only has helped me with acting but has helped me become a better person. I've grown to understand myself and I've learned and done things I would never have done. And would never have been able to do. Her lessons will not only help you perform, they will help you in your everyday life.

Lilla is very patient, encouraging, and cooperative. She is also very calm. When I'm having difficulties, she's always very good at helping me remember or see that it's just something to be dealt with, and it doesn't mean anything.

I am an experienced teacher, performer and recording artist with over 20 years of experience. I am also a faculty member at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary music where I have taught Vocal Performance, Vocal Technique for the Contemporary Vocalist, Ear Training, Vocal Musicianship, Jazz Repertoire, Improvisation, and Solfeggio (moveable DO).
Voice-body-mind-spirit - it all flows in harmony during a solid performance. No two people are alike, or have the same experience, goals or hang-ups. I tailor my teaching approach to each individual student, depending on your musical background, prior training, emotional issues we may need to address. Fear often threatens to close us off from what we truly want to express. But with solid technique and a fun, nurturing environment to work in, we can get your voice to the level that you want it to be.

About Elisabeth
Learning to sing is a journey of discovery. It is my task to help you become who you truly are, and excellent vocal technique helps you express that. Discover your voice in a fun, professional and nurturing environment that will help you reach a vocal depth that is inspiring and satisfying.

I am a professional vocalist, songwriter and voice teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience. Because I am active as a touring musician I constantly strive for improving my own abilities and adjust them to the needs of the road. My touring and recording has immensely benefitted my teaching, because I continue to have real-life experience as an active musician. I know what it takes.
I have been a faculty member at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City for over 15 years. I've been fortunate to teach Private voice l
essons there as well as Ear Training, Vocal Performance, Vocal Musicianship, and Senior Seminar.
As a touring jazz vocalist I have performed all over the world, from Japan to Egypt, Germany, Mexico, USA and Canada. Most of my touring happens in Europe. While there I teach online lessons only.
As a band leader I have released 12 CDs throughout the years. I also owned and ran my own recording studio for 15 years, until the Real Estate monster snatched it up.
I enjoy going deep into vocal technique with my students, exploring what it is that holds them back from reaching that next level, releasing fear and physical tension, balancing and strengthening the voice. Vocal improvisation is another subject I love, be it free improv or specific jazz scat singing over chord changes. Helping vocalists of all levels become better singers and deepen their musicianship skills is a big and wonderful part of what I get to do.

I contacted Elisabeth Lohninger to improve my flexibility to move between registers and to strengthen my upper range and I was very happy with the results. I immediately felt at ease sitting by her beautiful grand piano and was impressed by her knowledge of vocal technique, sound production and anatomy of the voice. She tailor-made a vocal exercise regime for me that was specifically designed to address my needs and I was astounded how quickly I improved and was able to move freely between registers and access my falsetto. I can wholeheartedly recommend her and would not hesitate to entrust my voice in her care

I had an audition coming up and was extremely nervous. Elisabeth helped me unpack some of the technical issues I had with my audition piece (musical theater) and gave me specific exercises to strengthen the weak parts of the song. She was super supportive, warm and just there with me and my struggle! The audition went really well. I'm so happy to have worked with her!

I’ve been learning from Nathan for some time now. And the difference it has made in my technique, musicality, and presentation has been tremendous! He is kind and caring teacher that always makes you feel comfortable at whatever level you go to him.

I found him while preparing for an audition for a musical theatre gig. He was quick to respond and punctual with setting up the lesson ASAP. We went through the material and his instruction helped me craft not only how to show my best self in my presentation but how to do it in a healthy, long term way. I’ve been back to him several times since. His knowledge of the voice and music is endless. He can make anyone be better and feel better about being a vocalist. I recommend him to everyone!

I have been training in vocal technique my whole life. I love learning and growing and I wish to help others do the same!

About Annabella
Annabella DiFrancesco is an alumni of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and made her debut at the American Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall at the age of eighteen. Annabella went on to attend a performing arts conservancy in Los Angeles and New York known as AMDA.

Annabella grew up playing the violin which laid the foundation for building her musical technique. She places a strong importance on playing an instrument as to set the building blocks for singing. She is currently taking up piano as a way to strengthen her musical repertoire.

Annabella is a current volunteer with Sing For Hope a non for profit organization. Sing For Hope sends volunteers to local hospitals and retirement homes to bring happiness and cheer to those who need it most.

Her vision for her students is to build a strong found
ation, focusing on breath control and technique. Her method is centered around Speech Level Singing, but also has a background in classical technique as well. Annabella’s belief is that with the control of breath and voice you can create the perfect mix for the ideal sound.
