Bringing nearly 3 decades of teaching, recording and performing experience, my lessons combine technique, practical application of music theory, listening development ( ear training ) and musical context. Result oriented lessons tailored to your specific needs and goals. Whether your just picking up the guitar or have banged around with it for a few years and are ready fill in the blanks. Most total beginners are playing songs almost immediately; learning the most efficient way to play and understand both their instrument and the music. Whether your an acoustic singer songwriter looking to put it all together, a rock player, or just picking up the guitar for the first time i've got you covered. if your a more advanced player it's often a new technique, new approach, or simply taking what you already know and doing something else with it that will take you to the next level. I LOVE TEACHING ALL AGES AND AM PARTICULARLY GOOD WITH KIDS

I have played guitar since age 10! I can help with basics, rhythm and leading playing in the styles of Rock, Pop, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Funk. If you have never played guitar before you will be playing your favorite songs within just a few lessons. If you have some things together I can help you take your playing to the next level with a deeper understand of the instrument.

About Christopher
I am a professional bassist, guitarist and producer working out of Brooklyn. Since getting a Batchelor's degree in Jazz Studies from NYU, I have performed in festivals and concert halls all over the world. Notably, I have toured extensively with Blue Note-Capital recording artist Kandace Springs, with whom I opened for Daryl Hall & John Oats and Train at Madison Square Garden and dozens of other arenas.

In my many years of teaching and being taught I have realized that the best teachers are those who really focus on the needs of the student and help them realize their passion for playing music. This usually involves a lesson plan which combines both technical aspects and working on songs, so that the student is both working and having fun at the same time.

I can travel to Brooklyn and Manhattan to give lessons. I can teach kids
as well as adults.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach from beginner to intermediate on guitar, and beginner to advanced on bass guitar and upright bass in the styles of Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop etc. I also have experience in other subjects such as Production, Composition, Music Theory.

Chris was on time and well prepared. He spent time understanding where my 11-year old son was in terms of skills, experience and interests, and tailored the lesson accordingly. My son thinks Chris is "awesome", and is looking forward to the next lesson!

I've really enjoyed taking lessons from Chris. He is knowledgable and able to articulate intricate musical concepts while presenting a casual, welcoming vibe. He honed in quickly on where I was in my training and steered the lessons to what I needed most to learn at that moment. I've progressed quite a bit since taking lessons with Chris. I'm playing more and better and I can't think of any higher praise for a teacher.

It was always a lifelong dream of mine to play the bass and Chris has made that a reality by providing affordable lessons and taking a slow, hands on approach to teaching me the bass. He is also such a nice guy so that makes the whole experience that much better. I am forever thankful that I met Chris and look forward to working with him more!

My students cover a wide range, from bluegrass to concert classical. The correct technique is the one that will be able to underlay any musical style. For example, if the left hand is flexible and well-formed, then blues, Bach and flamenco all will come more easily. This core is essential, because even at the most beginning stages, the student should be able to play with musical expression. Books I commonly use are Suzuki and Parkening--but I equally commonly use other materials.

About Stephen
I have been playing music on the violin since the age of 7, composing since I was 14, and playing and performing on the guitar since I was 18. I've written a lot of music, and this past spring had works performed in Virginia and two in Manhattan.

I have taught music for over 15 years, in colleges, music schools and privately. One thing that I have noticed is that, with more experience, I have a lot more fun--and so do my students.

I learned a lot in my first lesson with Brian. He clearly knows the guitar inside and out. The pace was on the faster side, but he answered all my questions about technique and theory. Beyond what I wanted to focus on (technique), he's laying a solid foundation for theory so that I don't have go rely on the capo or online tabs as much. He also gave me useful scale exercises to build up finger independence and articulation. So far so good.

Can't even begin to say how much I've learned from this brilliant musician and wonderful human being! I came to him a couple years ago as a proficient rock guitarist with the desire of immersing myself in jazz guitar, and the progress I've made thanks to him is just astounding. If you're in New York or he's performing in your town, do yourself a favor and go out and see his group, as he never disappoints. Did I mention great sense of humor too? Highly recommended for anybody!
