Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing or singing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are

Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand. He works with piano, composition and vocal performance students of all levels and styles, which include classical, jazz, blues, Tango, and Broadway. Paul also works with all different types of students such as those who want to learn for personal enjoyment or for professional reasons. He prepares h
is students for competitions, audition preparation and professional concerts. Each year his students have the opportunity to perform at the world-renowned Steinway Hall in New York City. This yearly student recital gives students the opportunity to perform in one of New York City’s most sought after recital Halls located in midtown Manhattan. In July of 2014 Paul became a Steinway Educational partner. In 2008, Paul received a Masters Degree in piano performance from New York University. In 2006, he received a Bachelor Degree of Music from Stony Brook University.
As a Pianist, In 2006 Paul was a prizewinner at the Music Club of Douglaston Piano Competition. For two consecutive years, Paul was awarded The Suffolk County Piano Forum Prize. XLNT Music recently wrote, “Paul is a fine pianist that performs with superb pianism and great sensitivity.”
 His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and competitions.
I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

About Elliott
I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. My goal is always to help a student develop their own understanding and experience of singing in a way that is fun, interactive, and personal while also progressively building a strong technique.

My lessons are generally split between technical work/ warm-ups and repertoire. I like to adapt my concepts to a students individual personality and capability, in that
sense I am flexible about the approach taken to achieve optimal results. Every singer thinks and communicates differently and I see it as my job to figure out what will work best for you. I think that a foundation in a classical approach gives students the biggest toolkit which to work. Once the fundamentals are firmly established, that singer then has the ability to approach any style of music in a way that is healthy and secure.

I was a total novice and the progress that I’ve shown over the past several months under Elliot's guidance is almost miraculous to me. He is honest and tough but always encouraging. His approach is quite surgical, technical and focuses on finessing the finest details in how you engage your body to create the best sound possible. My bad habits were identified and I was given efficient tools to counteract them. After singing for so long with improper technique I needed a teacher who could throw me in the deep end and the results speak for themselves. Crazy value for money!

I - Silent Foundation

The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.

II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors

This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you'™re incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.

Baritone Daniel Collins has performed at Carnegie Hall and with the Metropolitan Opera chorus in New York City. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas and earned both his Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from Florida State University. Dr. Collins was a finalist in the Dallas and El Paso Opera Guild Competitions, the NATS Singer of the Year Competition, and the NATSAA National Competition. He has performed in opera, concerts, and recitals throughout the United States and as a soloist at some of the most prestigious churches and synagogues in New York City and Washington, D.C. This was my first private lesson with Dr. Daniel, most importantly he made me feel very comfortable and I wasn't afraid to sing notes in front of him. Dr.Daniel took the time to gather my history and take notes about what I said. Dr. Daniel was very thorough for our first visit, even though I had only booked my first class to be 30 minutes. Though my time as a student with Dr. Dan was short, it was very valuable. Even though the lessons were about singing, it helped me gain a general confidence in myself regarding posture, and using a loud voice. He has given a number of exercises to develop my breathing, vibrato, tone, and lower registers to use on my own. Dr. Dan is a great teacher who makes the atomsphere of the lessons very friendly and I would highly recommend him!

What happens in a Lesson? In order to train your physical voice, it is necessary to do vocal exercises, in the same way that one needs to train at a gym. There is no "magic key" to unlock one's voice; it is a matter of daily practice and muscle strengthening/stretching. So, the first part of the lesson will be focused on vocal exercises specifically tailored to YOUR VOICE and its needs. The second half of the lesson is the fun part- SINGING! We will work on any songs and styles that YOU choose. Whether you want to sing Rock, Country, Pop, Musical Theater, or Classical, there is a healthy and communicative way to sing!

Rachel has trained at The Hages Music Studio under a master teacher for 22+ years in the Bel Canto singing technique for all genres, studied at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting in NYC as well as recorded and released her first album called "Just Meant To Be". Other credits include commercials, films, TV shows (One Tree Hill, AMC, Food Network), music videos (including Rachel's singles "Don't Even Try", "You Will Love On"), & numerous stage credits (Off-Broadway/NYC Theatre). Rachel most recently was seen in the reading of a new play "Vanishing Son" by Peter Gil-Sheridan performed in NYC. She is also a songwriter (16+ years), scriptwriter (10+ years), director (14+ years), and an international recording artist (10+ years).

Rachel has been performing for 20+ years, has performed in front of sold out crowds, and has been honored with many standing ovations. Other honors include magazine covers, featured articles, singing to thousands of people, studio recordings/albums, originated the role of "Antigone" in "Oedipus: The Musical", 2002 Helen Hayes Nomination for" Outstanding Vocal Performance in a Musical" ("Miss Adelaide" in "Guys And Dolls"), & 2008 finalist for NYC Singing Idol Competition. Rachel has also been fortunate to have worked & performed with many people in the business including Grammy-Tony-Emmy Award Winners/Nominees.

LESSON DETAILS

Whether you are a parent looking for instruction for your child, or for yourself, Rachel can customize the right program that best suits your needs. Her students come from all walks of life and have different goals, but they all have one thing in common. They love performing and have the desire to be the best at their chosen craft (singing/acting).

Some students want to sing/act for themselves, others want to sing/act for a hobby, and others want to be professional performers. That's where Rachel comes in. No matter what your goals are, she can help. Rachel teaches her students how to become true artists without tearing them down and without taking away the part of them that makes them unique. She teaches healthy technique that is based off of the human anatomy; the science of how the body/mind works and how the body/mind can work as efficiently as possible while singing or acting.

Learning how to sing/act is a process and doesn't happen overnight. Rachel's ultimate goal as a teacher is to not only make her students the best performers and singers they can be, but also give them all of the proper tools they need to have a more productive mind frame and become self-sufficient. Of course this can take years to master. It takes time and dedication.

OTHER LESSON INFORMATION

SINGING: Bel Canto singing technique for the modern singer is taught in private and group classes. No one sounds like old opera singers, even if the student wants to sing opera. Students are allowed to choose most of the material they learn in the lesson. There will be times when Rachel will suggest a song to a student but if the student doesn't enjoy the song, they will work as a team to find a song that does work for the student. Gain a better tone quality, complete control of your voice, bigger range, more flexibility, and confidence. Learn healthy voice technique, how to fully take care of your own voice so you can sing for the rest of your life (even after lessons), and become a self sufficient performer for life.

ACTING: Stella Adler, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner Acting Technique for Theatre/Camera is taught in private and group classes. All students are exposed to each technique and Rachel sees which technique each student responds to the most. Once the student and Rachel are able to identify the technique, Rachel continues to use the terminology of that technique for the remainder of the time the student is in lessons. Students eventually are able to play roles truthfully and realistically, even if the roles are opposite of the student's own personality.

BY THE TIME STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM LESSONS:

1. Gain a lifelong, solid, consistent, and healthy technique that they can always count on in practice and performance.

2. Gain specific technical and personal notes in a notebook and/or computer file that is organized and always accessible for review.

3. Gain artistry, performance skills, and a strong voice that will look/sound authentic; Singers will sound appropriate to whatever style of music they are singing. (No fake sound or look.) Actors will just be in the moment and truthful whether they are on stage or in front of the camera.

4. Gain the confidence to always put on a great performance.

5. Gain focus and a more productive mind frame.

6. Become self-sufficient by knowing how to assess a problem and then fix it without creating a new issue.

STUDIO POLICIES-

CANCELLATION:
24 hour lesson cancellation

MISSED LESSONS/MAKE UPS:
If the student needs to miss a lesson for sickness, they or their parent/ guardian, if the student is under 18, must let Rachel know at least 24 hours before their missed lesson. If they need to miss due to an other activity or vacation, they must contact Rachel at least a week from their next scheduled lesson in advance to prevent from forfeiting the lesson. All make ups will be scheduled within 4 weeks from the missed lesson. If rescheduled lesson or make up lesson is missed, no new make up will be given unless Rachel is not able to teach for some rare reason.

LATENESS:
If a student is going to be late they need to contact Rachel as soon as possible, to let her know they will be late. Lessons will end on time unless she is able to extend the lesson due to a late student or her schedule allows for it though please understand, Rachel would be extending a courtesy and would not be obligated to do so. If on the rare occasion Rachel is running late, she will always make up the time.

SITTING IN: Parents/Guardians are ONLY permitted to stay for the first lesson and are NOT permitted to sit in for any other lesson/class unless invited. This is to promote good/strong teacher-student relationship quickly and easily. Also, many times students feel more comfortable when their parents/guardians leave.

My name is Kiyan, I am a classically, contemporarily and pop-music trained singer, music director, recording artist, composer, and teacher.

I have studied music of all genres very intensely, including everything from early Baroque technique, opera, musical theater (golden age to contemporary), gospel music, pop music, rock music, all the way to every single Beyoncé riff.

I am currently a full time recording artist and performer. Teaching is the best way to spend my free time. Kiyan is a great friend of mine whom I reached out to for singing lessons. I am not pursuing vocals as a career, but more for personal enjoyment. Kiyan never once made me feel as if I was new at this and broke everything down to the roots. A superb person and an excellent teacher.

Kiyan is instinctive and insightful as a teacher. Always prepared and definitely intuitive when it comes to learning how his students work. I took vocal lessons with Kiyan for a little over a year and he definitely taught me how to use my voice properly. We did a range of styles from classical to more contemporary music. He also taught me a good amount of music theory as well. Mary is an accomplished singer, teacher, actor, producer, pianist and voice-over artist. She is the Co-Artistic Director of Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre, a classical company dedicated to a joyful and dynamic theatrical process, a
nd the founder of Joyful Singing Studios.

Mary holds a BA in Music (vocal performance) from Duke University, an MFA in Classical Acting from George Washington University's Academy for Classical Acting, and a fancy certificate from NY Vocal Coaching Teacher Training. 😋

She has worked with an array of exceptional teachers and coaches including Chrissellene Petropolous (DC), Katja Kullander (NYC), Justin Stoney (NYC), Elizabeth Linnartz (NC), Marion Johnson Healy (DE).

Mary has performed across the country in roles such as Maria in West Side Story, Amalia in She Loves Me, Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Anne in The Diary of Anne Frank, and Emily in Our Town.

I'm a singer-songwriter with prior recording, performing, and theatre training and although I have trained with a number of different instructors, Mary brought something new and beneficial to the table! Prior to beginning our lesson we had a brief discussion about what I've done and what my goals are, and then proceeded to make a sort of action plan on how to address everything! Just after one 45 minute lesson, I had learned techniques that I hadn't ever used before and could already sense my improvement. She gave me great mental and physical cues that I found to be extremely helpful. She is clearly very knowledgeable about what she does and her performance experience gives her a special edge and understanding when it comes to her teaching style.

As far as logistics go, I have both driven and taken the subway to get to her house. She lives super close to the L train (maybe a 2 or 3 minute walk?) and there is usually adequate parking nearby. Her home is lovely and the backroom where the piano is has incredible acoustics. I could sing there for hours!! Her cute pup Waka is also a nice addition/perk to the overall environment :)

Overall, I'm incredibly happy and so excited to see how she helps me achieve my goals!!

I had my first voice lesson in a long time with Mary. I've had years of training in the past, and Mary was very informed and knowledgable about different styles and techniques. She was constantly checking in with me about my experiences and what challenges I face to work on exercises that were specifically suited to my voice and its needs. She also spent some extra time with me to look through my audition material and help me to focus it a bit. Her beautiful home and workspace lent itself to a relaxing and rewarding` lesson that only went by too quickly.

Mary is an incredible teacher! She did a wonderful job of asking me what it was I wanted to focus on and then tailoring the lesson to that. She also was encouraging and make me feel safe to sing (and good about the sound I was producing!) while still offering exercises and ways to improve what I was doing. She also went out of her way to find me songs when I mentioned that I needed some more rep for my book! Warm, attentive, humble, and knowledgable, she is a teacher that you definitely want to study with!

I am a mom at 50 and wanted to learn to play an instrument and learn how to read music - something I always wanted to do. I chose the clarinet. I was nervous and needed confidence. Kristen was able to get a good read on my ability and explain things at my level. She was encouraging and very patient! If I didn't understand something she always had different ways to teach it. She let me choose some music that I enjoy and felt connected to. She has a happy and caring personality and her energy is amazing! I love to listen to her play - its inspiring!
