I've played guitar on countless sessions and stages all over the world, and will bring my experience to your student...going over technique, and teaching your favorite songs. Lessons are a fun, interactive process that get great results!

About Steven
Hailing from New York City, Steven W. has been involved in the performing arts his entire life, which began as he received his training from a number prestigious arts institutions...Julliard (where he studied piano), New York University (where he studied music education), and the Katie Agresta Vocal Studio (whose other students include Sting, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lenox and many more, including the casts of numerous Broadway shows).

Having performed on small cabaret stages

There is not enough that I can say about Mr. Blackwell's teaching. Under his instructions, I have learned not only to play the bass by ear, but also I am able to read and understand music theory. Mr. Blackwell constantly challenges you to go further with every lesson. The best part of the class is the jam sessions! I love playing songs being the lead at times and a support to the band. I can't wait to play with our lead guitarist Michael. If you are looking for a music instructor, I highly recommend that you check out Mr. Blackwell!

The first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized binder guitar workbook and having a teaching degree I create all of the lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, songs, song form, and exercises etc. I use a color coded method to teach scales, chords and theory that I created that help students not only understand scales but also they are able to see visually where chords come from. I create all of the guitar lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, rhythm, chords, scales, riffs, arpeggio's, songs, and exercises etc. I break down songs into easy digestible parts so students can learn a song in a logical and most manageable way. I use a color coded method to teach that I created that help students not only learn and understand scales and chords but also they are able to see visually how scales and chords are created. I currently teach private guitar lessons and have worked for 12 years in our local schools as a teacher with students K through 12. For 2 years, from 2012 to 2014 I taught an after-school enrichment guitar and songwriting class. I created the curriculum and music workbook specifically for 6 and 7-year old children whom I taught at Pequenakonck Elementary School in North Salem, NY. In College I won an award for the most Improved Studio Composition Student at Purchase College. I incorporate lessons that I have learned in the classroom as a teacher to help my guitar students learn. I feel the most important thing for my students to learn about music is to have a lot of fun.

I am a music professional and an experienced teacher with 13 years of experience in teaching acoustic and electric guitars. My curriculum is divided into beginner, intermediate and expert levels for all age groups. My lessons are customized and catered to the needs and goals of each student. Being a guitar recording artist and having taught over 200 students, I also offer unique lessons on how to record your own guitar in a studio. I bring my professional experience of composing and playing guitars for movies, which makes my teaching style and curriculum very exciting!
If you are really good and are a fast learner, I let you record guitars in my studio. So bring it on guys!

About Atif
I am a professional guitarist and music composer for movies. I have been teaching since 13 years now and just like the way you want to learn guitars, I was in the same spot many years ago. Having found a great teacher, all his guidance helped me eventually become a professional guitarist and work for the movies and TV jingles. I have composed music and played guitars in 8 movies and 100 jingles that you hear on your TV. Two of my movies have been selected at one of the world's biggest and most reputed film festivals - CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. Living your dream is the best thing you can do for yourself!

It took me many years to design a curriculum which is focused on not only teaching guitars, but also how you can record your own guitars and make them sound great. Isn't that exciting! Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or expert, I wil
l strive to teach you that no one else does. I have mentored more than 200 students and many of them went on to become part of bands and performing artists.

See you at the lessons!

I tried learning guitars many times using online lessons on youtube. But, when I started taking guitar lessons from Atif, I realised that my technique was wrong as there was no one to correct me earlier. He made me change my technique which was quite difficult to unlearn and re-learn, but I am a much improved guitarist today thanks to Atif. His way of teaching is simple yet effective.

We'll cover what we need to in order to get you playing your instrument. Guitar is a combination of physically playing the instrument and having your hands been in shape, mentally know the possibilities of what you could play on you instrument, using and trusting your ear to create music, and doing it with a great sense of time and feeling the time/tempo and playing with great feel and different rhythms. We will cover various aspects and get you playing and understanding what you're doing on the instrument so that you will have a great foundation and most importantly be able to play with confidence.

About Steve
I am a bass player, guitarist, piano player, drummer, vocalist, and I write my own music. I've been playing and studying music for 15 years. I started out on the bass guitar because it was what stood out to me most when I listened to music that I enjoyed. I had friends that were playing guitar and drums at the time, so we formed a band pretty much right when I started playing. It's great experience to just jump in and play with others!

The bass always resonated with me when I listened to music as a youngster and deciding which instrument to stick with. I was lucky to have some great teachers in school who inspired me and told me I picked the right instrument for my personality with the bass guitar. I had the benefit of playing in bands even when I was just starting out on my instrument. Learning my favorite tunes was a big part of what
kept me motivated as a musician and I strive to cater to each individual and work on the stuff they love so that they stay motivated and inspired. Music theory and the fundamentals are important, but I try to relate the theory to what the student is interested as best as possible.

I've been lucky to be able to study music in college and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and graduated from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. I had the benefit of studying with amazing teachers, attending master classes with some of the best players in the world, and playing in groups and with people that have pushed me to continue studying and excel at my instrument.

I currently teach at New Windsor Music Academy in New York and I have several private students that I work with outside of the school. I try to keep lessons fun and informative, so I plan each lesson with structure so that the student can get the most out of our time together. I get the most joy out of watching my students feel elated when they are able to play tunes that they love, understand the theory behind what they are playing, and progress as musicians.
