We love Mr. Heaton. My son is 13 and on the autism spectrum and so focus can be hard for him, he was really struggling in school based orchestra because they couldn't give him one on one attention. He also struggles with fine motor delays (which is why we chose a string instrument). We've been doing lessons with Nicholas for almost a year now. Nicholas always takes his time with my child and is extremely patient. My son has gained SO much confidence since we began taking these private lessons. They work on not just learning to play cello but learning how to really understand/read the music and making sure that the techniques he's learning (hand positions, ways of sitting and moving) are all exactly what he needs to progress successfully in his orchestra and going forward. My son enjoys his lessons and I feel like we always get our money's worth. I can't wait to see where he will be another year from now working so closely with such an amazing musician and teacher.

"Anna and I noticed that I had difficulty with tension in my wrist while trying to finger the fingerboard of the violin. I've heard that older beginner violin students and especially males tend to have problems with not being able to adapt their Arm/Wrist/Hand enough to play violin. Anna and I decided to have her monitor my progress of being able to rotate my arm/wrist/hand enough to play the violin proficiently and with some exercise I improved, but not enough to prevent wrist tension. So after my 5th violin lesson I went with Anna's suggestion to try the Cello. She even invited me to try one out. It was perfect for me. I'm eight lessons in now and loving it!!! I'm happy that Anna showed so much concern for me and instead of allowing me to just give up on my dream to learn a string instrument she encouraged me to just try the Cello and it worked out."

"Finding an individual with the credentials or capacity to develop your technique isn't really the difficult part in searching for a teacher. As a twenty-something in the early stages of developing my career, I place a much higher value in being inspired.

Despite having no prior experience with the cello and having little time to practice in between lessons, Ryan does a great job in simplifying the musical concepts and subtly drilling in the key points-- so much so that I can actually hear the improvement with every session. Not only is he very patient and attentive, Ryan also shows an obvious enthusiasm towards his craft that is highly infectious.

The lessons themselves are thorough, but still engaging. Given my hectic lifestyle, I was initially uncertain about committing to a new skill and figured my interest in the cello would waver. I'm still no cello aficionado--however, this first set of lessons has surprisingly heightened that initial interest and convinced me to keep at it.

Bottom Line: If you're looking for a teacher or considering the instrument, I would definitely recommend giving Ryan a shot!"

"Ms. Lucy is a spectacular cello teacher, she teaches you things that you don't learn in school like Harmonics and the third octave. She also fixes our bad habits and shows you the correct way like having a round hand when playing the "A" string and to have you thumb on the string when it is below the saddle. I liked the lesson a lot and I can't wait for the next lesson next week"

"I originally learned how to play the cello on my own in my school's orchestra. When I went to college and decided to bring my cello with me, I knew it was time to take proper lessons like everyone else. Brenda was able to help me iron out all of the bad habits I had developed over seven years of playing cello with no formal corrections. She clearly cared about me and my interests as a student. I can confidently say Brenda equipped me with the tools, techniques, and attitude I needed to play the cello for the rest of my life."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
