*** Lesson Details *** My philosophy is to push you to exceed your expectations and reach your goals while still having fun. I will push you, but gently and show you a lot of effective ways of practicing so that you achieve more in less time. I am big on technique and really believe in the importance of developing a solid technique, which I will help you to acquire. A strong technique will give you the tools you need to play whatever you want skillfully. With a commanding technique you will be able to focus on making beautiful music. Are you a singer? Jamila has been giving our 7-year-old twin boys piano lessons for six months, and my wife and I are blown away by what an incredible teacher Jamila is. Our boys began never having played a note in their life, and in just six months they play at a level we didn't think they would reach for at least a year and a half or more. Family and friends who hear the boys play are amazed because their own kids took lessons for years and didn't achieve the same level of skill and knowledge of musical theory so early on--and it is 100% thanks to Jamila! She doesn't underestimate kids or teach down to them. She teaches proper technique and theory in a positive, encouraging, yet rigorous way that I imagine most kids will respond very well to. One word..... AMAZING!!!
Before Ms. Jamila was my piano teacher, I had little interest in the piano. My other teacher gave me boring, easy songs, which didn't help. After that, I despised the piano, and thought I never would play it. Then, Ms. Jamila came along. Unlike my other teacher, she asked my interests and what song I really liked. Now, I don't know how I ever hated it. I believe I will go far with her as my teacher. She posts articles on her blog and her website which deepens my understanding of music. I would reccomend her to anyone, because on a scale of 1 to 10, she's infinity!

Music has always been my biggest passion. I started playing guitar at the age of 10, and I haven't been able to put it down since. In grade school I started my first gigs playing in bands and spent all of my time outside of school playing guitar.
Coming from a family of eight where there wasn't much money for schooling, I put myself through high school and college gigging, and teaching.
I earned a music degree from Wayne State University in performance guitar, studying under the likes of Joe Fava and Charles Postlewate. At the same time playing extensive clubwork, shows, concerts, studio work and teaching.
My styles include virtually all elements of guitar. Rock, Blues, Metal, Country, Classical and Jazz.
In "2006", I opened up a guitar studio in South Lyon Mi, where I taught, along with lessons from my home.

etails *** I take a very serious, professional approach to my music studies and my teaching, but with a very humorous, and free-flowing concept to keep my students interested. I am very patient, and truly care about the progress of each student.
Each student that I teach has a different lesson structure depending on what the student wishes to accomplish. I tailor each lesson to help them move closer at a rapid pace to whatever style of music they have the strongest interest in. But because guitar is such a diverse instrument with many different established forms of technique, I do advocate developing proficiency in multiple styles of playing.
While I completely approve of learning to play music from TAB which expedites the playing of actual songs, I highly recommend that beginning guitarists learn to read music as you never know what they might end up doing with their knowledge. (Studio work, shows, teaching, or other scenarios where reading music is essential).
Starting to learn any instrument can be a challenge. But with persistence, guidance, and actual progress, learning how to play an instrument can be of the most rewarding experiences, regardless of your age. With my help, you or your child will be able to enjoy the experience of discovering how fulfilling playing can be.

After graduating from the University of Kentucky with a degree in music, I moved to New York where I lived for 11 years. I have been a professional multi-instrumentalist since then and a member of many bands including Beirut and Arcade Fire. I have also performed and/or recorded with many others including David Byrne, Passion Pit, Coldplay, and LCD Sound system. I have performed in dozens of countries, at some of the world's biggest festivals (Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury), and on many television shows (Colbert, Letterman, Fallon).
I have experience in playing and teaching many different styles and can teach you what YOU want to learn. Playing music can be a very rewarding experience, but should also be fun. I can promise you will have fun in our lessons and have fun with music in general.

Renee has a Bachelor degree from the University of Dayton in Music Therapy with an emphasis on piano, voice and music theory. She has been teaching children from age five to adult for over 12 years. In 1995 I taught children from Kindergarten to 4th grade Music at Liberty Christain Cathedral. In 2000 she worked at The Dayton Academy teaching music classes to elementary school children. In 2006 she taught voice to a school choir at Nehemiah University. In 2007 she successfully taught voice and performance to a Senior Choir at Wesley Community Center. *** Specialties *** The curriculum that I prefer is The David Carr Glover Method, Pre- Reading Books for Beginners, Popular Piano by Hal Leonard, Sight Reading and Rhythm Everyday. I teach Classical, Pop, Jazz, Gospel and Contemporary Gospel.
I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. This subject deals with the practicalities of music performance, be it instrumental, vocal, or conducting. Issues covered include entering and exiting the stage, bowing, stage presence, speaking to an audience, dealing with memory issues in performance, and more.
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.
During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.
Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.
*** Lesson Details *** There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.
To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet. The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons. Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!
Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study. Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.
Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
IMPORTANT NOTES: • To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.
• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.
• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.
• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.
• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

Tamara Kachelmeier received a Master’s degree in Media Scoring from Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema. She studied voice, piano, audio engineering, music production, sound design, and composition at Gustavus Adolphus College, Berklee College of Music, McNally Smith College of Music, MCTC, Full Sail University and the Academy of Art University. She currently runs Ghost Dog Studios, a music and film production company residing in Brooklyn, New York.
She has written music that has appeared on the History Channel and CNBC. Tamara has also mixed and created sound designs for films that have appeared at the Art of Brooklyn Festival, Comic Film Festival, Art City Short Film Festival, Genre Celebration Festival, Barcelona Planet Film Festival, Court Metrage Festival de Cones and Top Indie Film Awards.

Ed has a pleasant easy going personality. I've had a couple of teachers who were great players, but lousy teachers. I quit my last teacher because he was completely unprepared and what we did had nothing to do with what we did the previous lesson that I had spent so much time practicing. I got the feeling he thought he was so good he could just wing it. Wrong. I've only had one lesson with Ed, but he seems well prepared and he has his program structured so the student can learn in a progressive manor.
