Hello Korean lovers!! Do you want to learn Korean with a CERTIFIED and EXPERIENCED Korean teacher? I have been teaching for 30 YEARS including K-8 and COLLEGE as well as private tutoring in Korea, China and India. I am a student-centered, patient and dedicated teacher with teaching certificates from the Ministry of Education in Korea. My students have always been happy with my teaching because I always focus on students’ interests in what they are learning. I graduated from the graduate school of Seoul National University, the best university in Korea. Please check my profile and judge whether I can be your Korean teacher. I know everything Korean!! Let me share it with you!

About Youngju
Dear Prospective Students,

I know how to teach you the Korean language EFFECTIVELY and QUICKLY.

I’m a CERTIFIED teacher with 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE, from elementary school to college. I have had many international teaching experiences and live with a multilingual family. I also completed the Program for Training Korean Language Instructors for Foreigners. This means I am aware of what the most difficult problems are when students learn Korean and I can provide the most simple and effective ways to acquire the language quickly.

I am confident that I can teach you authentic Korean at ANY LEVEL.

I finished my academic history as far as the phd (I never finished my dissertation, alas). I received my Masters degree and completed all of my post graduate work at Seoul National University, which a point of particular pride with me; a
fter all, Seoul National University is the Harvard of Korea. I have a number of published works in my academic association's annual journal. And I have a Certification in Reading and Essay Instruction.

I also know KOREAN VALUES and CULTURE inside and out.

I was born in Korea and spent most time of my life there in a traditional family. I have a deep understanding of Korea and its history and life style which I could share with you. If you want to learn how to cook Korean food such as kimchi, seaweed rolls(sushi) or jabchea(noodles), of course, I can teach you! I’m a housewife, too!!

I can give you ADVICE about getting GOOD JOBS in Korea.

I taught in Korean public schools as a homeroom teacher, art teacher and English teacher. Most of my responsibilities as an English teacher were executed with native English teachers. As you know, there are many qualified English speakers in Korea who want to be full time English teachers. I worked with teachers from EPIK(English Program In Korea), TaLK(Teach and Learn in Korea) and even Fulbright scholars. Native English teachers and I worked together very well; indeed, I won an award, due, if I may say so, to my organizational pedagogical contribution. I interviewed prospective teachers, taught them how to teach and prepare classes, how to get along with students and other colleagues, housing matters, and so forth. (In addition, I can give you advice on how to apply to a Korean University and handle an interview as my husband taught for many years in Korean Universities.)

I am a certified and experienced teacher who can help you with your ambitions and needs with Korean.
Let’s have fun while improving your Korean Language ability on Skype, at my home, or at your place at your convenience!
I’m totally ready to work with you.

Let's get together!! See you then!!

******
I would like to post answers to questions that my prospective students usually put to me about my Korean lessons.

Q: Are you good with VISUAL LEARNERS and VERBAL LEARNERS ?

A: Yes, I'm good at that. I'm a trained teacher of Korean with more than 30 years experience.

I would like to say my teaching style varies depending on the learner's condition: age, learning style, present level in Korean, purpose of getting lesson, etc. What I usually do is use visual materials, songs and even physical gestures for children, since they have not fully developed their logical reasoning and use of abstractions. I also introduce online Korean practice programs. I also use these with adult learners who are totally beginners. Generally speaking, visual, audio and TPR approaches are more effective for beginners.

I give learners lots of chances to express what they are learning. I always link their Korean knowledge between what they learned and what they are learning. I give homework as much as they can handle, too. Regarding writing, we can share simple words or sentences on the Skype and the more you are advanced the more things we can do. One of my advanced learners is writing a diary and proofreads with me when we start every class.

Q: WHERE DO YOUR LESSONS START AT? Do they start with learning how to put the vowels and consonants together or just starting off with words you need to know?

A: Again, mine are individualized lessons. One of my students wants to just learn how to communicate verbally in Korean. It means he doesn’t care about written Korean. If the learner already knows the Korean alphabet and knows how Korean syllables are structured then I don’t need to repeat it. I don’t prolong the process or time without reason. Other than that, I start from vowels and consonants and how to combine them, and how to make sounds, and read, etc.

Q: Do you teach how to properly READ KOREAN?

A; I teach learners how to read Korean and let them read it and correct their mistakes. My pronunciation is very clear. Prior to my more than 20 years teaching history, I had worked for a Korean public TV station, KBS, as a reporter.

Q: Do you teach FORMAL and INFORMAL KOREAN because I know there is a difference between them.

A: Yes, I teach formal and informal Korean both, in addition to the Korean basic sentence structure. Of course, if you want to learn specific form only then I can do it for you. As I said, it’s all up to you.

Q: How do I PAY for the lessons?

A: All of the administrative work happens through takelessons.com except the actual class. It means you have to pay to takelessons.com. You can find how to do this on "How it Works" on the main page of takelessons.com homepage
(https://takelessons.com/students/how-it-works).

Q: WHERE the lessons occur?

A: My lessons have four possible venues.

1. At your place (presently not available): To know my travel area, pleace check "Select a location" on the top right of this my profile page( https://takelessons.com/profile/youngju-s1?online) in the box.

2. At teacher's place(presently not available): If you live in Baltimore and can come to my place then you can take face-to-face lessons. That is a choice too.

3. Online: Online lessons are conducted through live 1-on-1 video chats using my personal meeting room.

4. Online TakeLessons Classroom: I also teach online group classes.

Q: When the lessons are AVAILABLE?

A: You can find my availability at "View availability" on the top right of this profile page( https://takelessons.com/profile/youngju-s1?online) in the box. Once a schedule is set, the classes occur according to it. You can reschedule whenever you need to, just for a short time or longer as long as both sides are available.

Q: Is there some way we can schedule a "TRIAL" session with you?

A: Actually, I handle all requests through takelessons.com's direct messaging system until students are officially on my roster. You and I will receive all our contact info once you book lessons and we can communicate directly then. Sorry, this means there can be no trial session short of five lessons, which is the minimum they allow. But trust that 100% SATISFACTION is GUARANTEED!! :-)

I hope that I gave you the answers what you are looking for. If you have more questions then never hesitate to ask. I welcome questions from learners!!

Wow! I've taken only two lessons from Youngju so far and she is absolutely amazing. I really feel like the lessons are very focused and she is very adept at meeting me where I am. I consider my Korean language abilities as not a beginner but also not very intermediate. I am very familiar with the language structure and can read fairly well. Youngju has been able to take what I know and bridge it with new knowledge. She is very open to answering any questions I have and she seems genuinely invested in my understanding. I'm looking forward to more lessons to come!

Hi, I am a Korean tutor. I was born and had been educated in Seoul, Korea. I love travel, TV shows, and lovely songs. I guarantee you these methods are quite effective and fun way to learn language. If there is somebody struggling to learn Korean or planning to go to Korea etc., please feel free to talk to me and I am glad to help you on that.

I graduated with my BA in English. Ever since I started tutoring Korean, I realize this is my thing. I teach all different levels, beginner, intermediate, and advance. For beginner-level students, it would be important not only to learn basic grammar an
d expressions but to realize how fun this language is to learn. For intermediate-level students, I will provide class materials with more complex grammar and expressions. For those who are upper-intermediate or advanced-level, we can think about what we use as our lesson materials. They can be new article, books, and movies etc.

I usually get an idea of teaching materials from students while they talk about their hobbies and interests. If you start a Korean lesson with me, you would not feel learning Korean is work but more like enjoying fun activity.

Let me know if you have any help with learning this language. It is alright to ask me about effective tips to study Korean or whatever you are curious about. I will look forward to hearing from you :-)

I enjoyed my first 5 lessons with Yeonsoon, she approached my learning through multiple formats, first with textbook learning, second with tv show recommendations to learn facial expressions and word emphasis and reality show recommendations to learn common language and young adult expressions and third with immersion through leading lessons and answering me in Korean and then translating to english (with spelled out text in the chat). They say you have to find the method of language learning that works for you and Yeonsoon exposed me to 3 ways. On top of this she is personable, friendly, and always in a positive mood.

If you are traveling to Korea, visiting, working, studying, or just interested in the language, Korean, I can help you talk to native Koreans. I've lived in Korea for 25 years and wanted to be a Korean teacher. While I was in college, I did volunteer work helping foreigners that lived there learn Korean. I also helped my husband study Korean during the time he was stationed there in the Army. I taught them many things including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and speaking formalities. Before all the above, the very first thing you need to do is studying the Korean alphabet, Hangeul. Knowing the alphabet, Hangeul will enable you to read every single word and sentences with no problem. As an English learner, I do understand difficulties learning a foreign language.

I like helping other people, learning things, and teaching others my
knowledge. I love languages and especially my native, The Korean language. That’s the reason why I’ve tutored students in Korean till now, and I’m so happy to be a helper for those who are interested in my country or Korean language. I’m eager to try different ways to teach not to be stuck with the same teaching-learning method. Also, I prefer studying a language using real-life examples to that only from books. I look for sources for Korean learning in real life to teach students real Korean in fun ways. Lesson materials are provided, but you can also share your book or things you want to learn in the lesson. Lessons are taught with the provided lesson materials, but your needs can be treated in the lesson as well. I want to be a teacher who is sometimes like a friend! It’s okay to text me when you have any questions related to Korean outside your lesson time. You may need a partner to work on your conversation skills, maybe preparing for working or study abroad, or just interested in learning a new language. I’ve coached students to achieve all the above. Whether young or old, man or woman, you are welcome if you have a willingness to learn the language, so let me know. I’ll do my best to teach you Korean till you achieve your goals. Let's get started!

I went in knowing a tiny bit of very basic Hangul. Herena worked with me and with the book I had already purchased for studies. She is knowledgeable and personable. As a native Korean speaker I trust that she knows what she is talking about. Herena is also very friendly and relatable. Super cool that she uses the topics I am interested in for the lessons and offering cultural and historical facts as well. I've learned so much with her, you can't go wrong if she's your tutor!

In 2014, I started learning piano when I was 23 years old. I didn't have any knowledge in music back then, but I dedicated my six years in learning music. Now I have certificate in Jazz piano performance, and I'm a classical pianist and a composer. I have AA degree in music and I'm currently junior at UCLA, majoring in music composition. I gained my experience in teaching through tutoring(piano, musicianship, music theory, composition) at a college and also by helping my peers. I share all of my knowledge with my students which will help you get to where you want as quick as possible. I cover music theory, musicianship, and piano. Mostly importantly, my major is music composition, so I can also help students who wants to start composition. He is patient with his students and wants them to succeed. If there is a specific detail you aren't understanding, he will take his time to help his students understand it. When he would help me with piano, i would ask him to listen to my playing and find my mistakes. He did just that. My son, Dade has been taking piano lessons with SooJi for four years now and unfortunately we have to stop as she moved to a new city. She is an absolutely gifted and exceptionally talented pianist and teacher. As a parent, I am engaged in every lesson, observing what my son is learning. Even if when he is tired, not fully prepared, SooJi never stops being kind to him. She always gives helpful tips for effective practice and progress. My son never stops smiling and laughing. Sometimes I join the lesson and also learn stuff and both my and my son just learn tons of new stuff from her lesson. Under SooJi's coaching, my son already finished two solo recitals, 40 minutes each. It is a REAL progress and I was really proud of my son, as he didn't know anything about music before meeting SooJi, and now he is able to play simple songs for people without getting nervous!
I also teach so I know this for sure. Teaching is a natural gift. Someone can be really good at something but might not be good at teaching. SooJi is a total gifted teacher. She knows what to teach, how to teach, what to use, how to deal with students and conflicts, and she is able to solve problems that my son had during practice. Whenever she says something, my son is like " now I got it!" and he is so happy learning from her.
She is an exceptional talent in performing piano as well. I asked her to play in my and my wife's wedding few weeks ago and she played few songs and it was absolutely gorgeous. I am just really sad and disappointed that she is not able to teach him anymore and I can not have fun with them again. But I know she will be literally the best piano teacher ever in whatever years from now. When you see her, you will clearly feel this: she is very professional, yet kind and super funny and silly. She is super talented, yet so humble. She is really good with any kinds of students, she just knows how to treat them differently.
I can see SooJi has a natural gift of teaching, and I do hope she comes back and teach my son again later. Thanks for the four years of teaching SooJi! We love you dear!
