Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.
He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

*** Lesson Details *** My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.
I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.
For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.
My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

Mr o. Is the best saxophone teacher I have never meet . He care about me so much . When I just start at jazz , he let me borrow a lot of CD to listen and learn . And that helped me so much . He had only be my teacher for one year , but he teach me so much that I have never thought .

I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas. In my studio I have a studio piano and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer. *** Lesson Details *** For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. The lesson would have been better if I were not so nervous and played better.
I have taught students from the age of four to sixty in all levels of flute, piccolo, alto and tenor saxophone as well as beginner clarinet. For the younger students I have also used to recorder to teach notes and to build confidence. My goal is to make the learning fun as that turns practicing into fun time not work.
As a teacher, my goal is to instruct as well as inspire each student to reach for his or her highest potential. I hope to give each student the tools to progress so that one day they can be their own best teacher, and play with a sound and style that is uniquely their own. Most importantly, I hope to instill a desire to learn and a mindset that the art of flute playing is fun and that it is just as we call it--playing. Parental support and involvement is key to any child’s progress. All levels of NYSSMA are taught and prepared for perfect scores .
Hello, potential piano proteges'! ...Being a piano protege as a child myself, I have been teaching piano, organ, and flute for over 25 years since and I currently have students that range from children to adults.While you are learning to play piano, you will be playing popular, classical, hymns and all types of music. I am a keyboard and composition major at Stony Brook University and play many musical styles like pop, standards, classical, swing and rock 'n roll. My students were finalists in the Yamaha Electone organ competition. From 4th grade to High School graduation, I received NYSSMA awards and scholarships as a flutist.
I have over 14 year of experience with flute preference and over 8 years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels. Many of my students have been excepted into honor orchestras and have been excepted to music schools such as: Cal State Long Beach, Biola University and Indiana University. My students gain a strong foundation in flute performance and a solid back round in theory. I specialize in classical music and I use a variety of books and exercises, tailored to each student.
I am a professional flutist and flute instructor. I currently hold the position of principal flutist of the Dana Point Symphony, have many years of recording experience, performed internationally, and have been privately teaching students of all ages and levels for over seven years.
My students can expect to gain a strong foundation in flute performance, including preparation for recitals and auditions. My students also develop an appreciation of great music and a solid background in theory. They have gone on to become great flute players, and have been accepted into excellent music schools, including the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and Biola University Conservatory of Music.

James is a great teacher! I already felt like I had learned so much from him within the first lesson, and am learning more and more each week. He is very patient and thorough!
The student will be instructed on the basics of proper playing techniques, music theory, and musicianship. They will learn to read music and also play by ear which will make them a well rounded player.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.
