I teach violin at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, mostly to novice players, and I have experience teaching violin to children of all ages.

My primary instrument is guitar, which I've played for about 25 years in many different bands, styles, and genres. I studied music and classical guitar at University of Central Florida, and during that time I also helped teach violin to a class of third graders. I'm not a pro violinist, but I have plenty of experience working with novice players, helping them develop proper technique, sight reading, ear training, and other skills needed to advance to the next level.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

I don't have much to add after what you've already read. I love teaching and hope my enthusiasm will be contagious. You are free to record a video your lessons to help you practice more efficiently at home and to tell me whatever else you need to help you learn. Every teacher wants their students to practice as much as possible but I focus on how to help you learn quickly because many of you have very busy lives. Whatever time you have I'll help you make the most of it.

About Gregor
I perform regularly at Carnegie Hall with Orchestra of St. Luke's, have performed and recorded with David Bowie (Heathen), play lots of chamber music and contemporary music concerts and have toured extensively but always lived in NYC. While I studied with Jascha Heifetz protege Erick Friedman to get my BM and MM from Manhattan School of Music,, Charlie Castleman at The Quartet Program and Chris Lee, concertmaster of NJ Symphony, my teaching is based on what I learned as a performing musician in NYC. Working with great players here showed me what they all had in common versus what were just my teacher's idiosyncrasies. Using your body efficiently to avoid injury is at the core of what I teach. Playing well in your 20's is entirely different than having learned how to avoid injury and play well in your 50's. I teach anyone from beginners o
f all ages to young professionals preparing for auditions to older people who always wanted to do this and just need someone to spark their curiosity.

Gregor was terrific to work with! He has had so much experience and teaches in a very personal and dynamic manner. He can really address the root of many issues in playing and take personal differences in consideration. I was very happy he had so much experience using the Alexander Method and adapting it to violin playing. This is what you need to set yourself up for a lifetime of playing! While I studied primarily classical music, he also has lots of experience in many other genres as well.

I briefly studied with Gregor when I lived in the NYC Metro area. He is one of the best teachers I've had the privilege of studying with over the years. My lessons were tailored to my goals, and Gregor was committed to helping me learn as much as possible, while being incredibly down to earth. He is simply a world-class teacher, and someone I was very fortunate to meet. It was a pleasure and privilege taking lessons from him, and I cannot recommend him enough to aspiring violinists and violists.

Allow me to start by saying that I am a violist, not a bassist. I had never so much as held a bass before in my life. However, after a few months of Trevor's patient guidance, I found myself reasonably confident not only in my ability to hold a bass but also somewhat in my ability to play it whilst doing so.

Aside from his patience, I appreciated his flexibility and approachability. Of course, I did my best to practice and attend all of our lessons, but if, for some reason, I was unable to do so, he would always work something out in a fair and rational manner. Not only did I feel comfortable asking questions, but I felt encouraged to do so. His hands-on approach of not just showing or telling but both was refreshing, as was his focus on the goals of student (me, in this particular situation). If there was a particular topic I wanted to discuss - vibrato, for instance - he would incorporate it into lesson plans piece by piece as I advanced to the necessary skill level, without losing a sense of the comprehensive "big picture." At the same time, I never felt rushed or lost during lessons or while practicing; his pacing was excellent, and there is no question that he absolutely knows the instrument well.

In summation, I learned a lot in a short period with Trevor, and strongly recommend this instructor.

For beginner lessons the basics come first! Your first lesson will focus on learning the parts of your instrument and holding your instrument with comfort. Your skills will grow weekly and you will soon have the ability to play scales, exercises and songs!
For more practiced students, we will work on your sight reading, ear training, music theory and techniques. Whatever area you feel you need more work in will be our focus.

About Jessie
Hi! I'm a professional musician and educator! I've been teaching Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Ukulele, Vocals, Guitar & Bass for 10 years. I Studied Music Performance and Education at the College of Staten Island. I've been playing since 5 years old, starting on piano and have picked up multiple instruments over the years.

Working with all ages & levels from beginner to advanced has shown me that every student is different and unique, and that is why I form my lessons to each students needs and wants, helping to make their learning experience interesting, fun, and educational on multiple levels. Every category will be covered in our lessons together... ear training, sight reading, technique, theory and other areas are equally as important when learning to play an instrument!

I'm in a few different musical projects, one of which being a
wedding band, playing over 150 shows a year. I also write original music, am working on my second album, and can help with song writing and improvisation if that is something that interests you. Looking forward to helping you on your musical journey!

I have studied with members of the Juilliard Quartet, and hold degrees from Juilliard and Harvard. As a teacher, I aim to give my students the tools to analyze and improve their own playing. I currently teach in the Preparatory Division at the Juilliard School and at the Interlochen Arts Camp.

As a professional violinist, my performance experiences range from solo (Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic, and AXIOM Ensemble, among others) to orchestral (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New World Symphony, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, and more) to even popular music (Stars of the Lid tour and Cheryl B. Engelhardt's CD One Up)! I am constantly evaluating my own musicality and the physical mechanics of how I play, and I apply this to my teaching of students of all levels.

About Alex
Praised by The New York Times as “spellbinding,” violinist Alex Shiozaki is emerging as a strong advocate for the music of today. He has performed in venues including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York City, Paine Hall at Harvard University, and the Hitachi Systems Hall in Sendai, Japan. At home with music new and old, he has appeared as a soloist with the Sendai Philharmonic, AXIOM Ensemble, and Juilliard Orchestra.

A member of the Momenta Quartet since 2016, Alex also performs with Le Train Bleu, American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), and Argento Ensemble. He recently took part in the Arvo Pärt at Eighty concert at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a performance which was streamed live globally. He appears regularly at the Chelsea Music Festival, and has also performed in the music festivals Bravo! Vail and the Tangle
wood Music Center. Alongside his wife and pianist Nana Shi, he made his Carnegie Hall debut with Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto for Violin, Piano, and Orchestra. The couple have presented recitals across the country, performing repertoire from Beethoven to Schnittke. Alex has led as concertmaster the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, New Juilliard Ensemble, Harvard Bach Society Orchestra, and more. In the summer of 2011, he joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra on their tour to Japan.

Alex's diverse interests in music have led him to an international tour with the ambient drone-music duo Stars of the Lid, playing shows in Montreal, New York, and Los Angeles. An avid collaborator, he has performed with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and with dancers from the New York City Ballet. Complementing his performing experience, Alex is part of the faculty of Juilliard's Music Advancement Program, as well as a teaching artist with Chamber Music by the Bay, an educational outreach and concert series that engages with audience through chamber music.

Alex recently received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Ronald Copes and Joseph Lin of the Juilliard String Quartet. His scholarly research was focused on Western music in Japan, specifically that of contemporary composer Somei Satoh. He also took lessons on Baroque violin with Robert Mealy of the Juilliard Historical Performance program. Alex holds a Master of Music degree from Juilliard, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College, where he studied with Lynn Chang.
