About Perry
Hello!

My name is Perry and I am a professional classical, flamenco and electric guitarist performing and recording in the Dallas area. I studied with Robert Guthrie at SMU for many years, as well as Brad McLemore of "Soul Food Cafe" and professional jazz musician Chuck Pangburn at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.

I am familiar with all styles of guitar from fingerpicking to Bebop/Swing. I teach using a foundation in classical/flamenco style and technique. I have found that for my own career as a recording artist in both the classical, acoustic and electric guitar fields that the classical/flamenco styles are the most useful for developing and training the hands to become a consummate professional.

I teach beginner to advanced students of any age. I also can provide pro and amateur electric g
uitarists an in-depth study of correct hand postures and left-hand/right-hand technique which can help to refine their overall technique and stylistic approach. I can also advise professional electric guitarists on their electronics, effects pedals, and amplifiers to achieve their own individual sound. I also teach Bass, and reading the Bass clef.

My teaching specialties include: Solfeggio, Sight Reading, Music Theory, Scales and Modes, Left and Right Hand Technique, Blues Progressions, Jazz Standards the Classical Repertoire, Flamenco styles, techniques and repertoire, DADGAD and other alternate tunings, and the works of Sor, Giuliani, and Carcassi, Brouwer, Aguado, Villa-Lobos, Sabicas, Paco de Lucia, Pat Martino, John Fahey, and Davey Graham.

I have an in-depth knowledge of the stylistic approaches and techniques of such guitarists as Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew to name a few, and I can teach you the components they use to build their signature licks.

As a rule I only transcribe to give the students examples for lessons. I intend for all of my students to grow as musicians, so my lessons do not consist solely of transcribed solos and riffs.

I have a vast library of music, so I can draw from my own resources to teach you, or from a method of your choosing.

My schedule has a few openings right now. I do teach outside of my stated teaching radius, but ONLY at the 60 minute rate.

I teach people of all ages, from children to adults. I believe everyone is on an even keel, if they are willing and eager to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
Emphasis on classical posture and technique.
Emphasis on sight-reading.
All students learn to play basic blues and jam
Technique varies depending on the particular style the student wishes to learn.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a limited number of learning materials such as exercises, listening or practicing CD on occasion. However, I feel that it is the student's responsibility to provide their own guitars, and the bulk of their own learning materials and necessary electronic equipment. This can include footstools, music stands, method books, amps, cables, pedals, etc.

*** Specialties ***
I've been playing guitar for 25 years, and this has given me the time to study, perform, and perfect many styles of guitar playing.

I studied classical and flamenco guitar with Robert Guthrie for 4 years before and after my studies in the SMU program. I've also played in jazz and rock ensembles since the age of 14. I studied with Chuck Pangburn, pro jazz cat, and Brad McLemore, an indie rock songwriter, early on in my studies as an adolescent.

I encourage most students to learn to play on a classical or nylon-string guitar early on in order to develop proper technique, posture, sensitivity, and sensibility. I also encourage all students to learn to sight-read at a very early point in their studies. Once, this hurdle is cleared many other challenges are easily surpassed.

Presently, I am developing a new method which incorporates solfeggio, blues and popular music forms, and improvisational playing. I also am exploring the vanguard of new guitar technology such as the Vo-96, analog effects, and various guitar synthesizers.

I try to introduce an understanding of music theory early on so that students develop a full comprehension of not only the written language of music, but also, the sonic language of music.

Perry takes the time to explain flamenco and related styles deeply and thoroughly. He also provides detailed micro-scale feedback on hand/arm placement, orientation, range and which muscle groups to engage. But more than the technical, he has an awesome vibe and makes learning guitar quite an enjoyable experience.

I had a huge coincidence by having a lesson with Kai in the Bay Area. He and I have the same point of view about learning drawing that helps me to understand his tips and instructions. It is a true pleasure to be his student, I was feeling like I’m detective who’s seeking for tips and clues and try to transfer all of that onto the paper. Also he is really good by explaining how to see simple shapes and figures in every object, how to extend an imaginary line and keep angles which did and will help me to draw more consciously. Highly recommend him anyone who wants to improve its drawing and painting skill.

Kai is an excellent instructor and has left a tramendious mark on me as both a student and an artist. Kai may be young, but he has knowledge beyond his years through skill and ambitiously being self taught he has been commended on nationally. Kai in the fall attended FACE and was recently awarded a certificate of excellence from The Portrait Society of America. I very grateful to have worked with him and been walked through his very informative and beautiful demos. Join me for the creative unleashing of highly effective processes of learning success. Your instruction will include: A. creative problem solving (unleashing the genius within) B. formation; a foundation is planned (architect) C. building; drafts are written (carpenter) D. finishing; the writing is polished (finishing editor/proofreader) I've used these guiding principles countless times in my life. Just as a jeweler would not be able to sell rough stones, Jill would not have been able to make anything in the publishing field without employing these principles. Her college papers would have been fair to dull rocks. She can say this as the daughter of a bricklayer who was the son of a stonemason in a familial line that dates back to middle 1600. So, of course, I did learn about laying bricks and throwing rocks too. Not very many structures
stand the test of time when we throw rocks (rough drafts). Only with this brick, mortar, and finish will the building stand. But enough about my lineage. My capstone point is that the finishing point of any building or writing should communicate a great product. In creating this description I had the above principles in mind. My college papers, business papers, copywriting, web designs, resumes, and even informal conversations are inclusive of this process of which proofreading is a vital component. Why? Well, I might want to throw a rock at myself if I assume myself incapable of accomplishing as much. And as the daughter of a bricklayer, I think I know about bricks and buildings, and mortar, and capstones such as proofreading. So now at my concluding paragraph contains the capstone of what is called proofreading. Proofreading, as my gem of a teacher told me, is constructed with similar principles. It contains a precise methodology which assures great communication. I would like to involve you in this structure. Please step in the door so I may explain the steps involved in editing and proofreading as art, the elements and principles of Art and English as your toolkit, and design as your structured building of success!

About Azadeh
I am an independent professional visual artist, with over 20 years' hands on teaching experience in U.S. and abroad.
At the age of 13, I began learning how to paint with my father, who is an established artist, in an informal studio class. Later, I decided to pursue higher education in fine arts and received my BFA and MFA degrees. While working on my Bachelor’s degree, I began teaching in schools and later in my private studio.
My expertise is to help others to discover their special talent, as I believe every person has a unique sense of creation. As an experienced art teacher and mentor, I have always provided a solid education for every one of my students and I have demonstrated an ability to engage students from diverse academic backgrounds and age groups.
My goal is to develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for arts in others
by addressing different learning styles. I demonstrate both traditional practices and contemporary critical and technical approaches to painting.

Along with coursework and research, being a professional visual artist has shaped who I am as a teacher. Through experiencing variety of techniques I have become familiar with alternate ways of visualizing and pushing the boundaries of innovation. I would love to share this perspective with my students whenever possible.

Enjoy one on one art class with me and let me help you to discover the power of your inner artist!

Hi there! I'm Esther, a professional pianist and violinist. I graduated from Wheaton College with a Bachelor's of Music, specializing in Piano Performance.

Piano and violin students can expect to improve week by week in their technique and musical ability as they attend lessons and practice regularly. Each student is unique in musical background and goals. I teach a well-rounded music curriculum, focusing on basic skills such as note-reading, instrument technique, sight-reading, ear training, and learning a variety of repertoire. My students can expect to grow in foundational music technique and performance, so that they can play in a variety of settings with freedo
m, confidence, and expression.

I teach piano students of all ages and experience levels. I studied piano for 16 years and have been teaching piano professionally for 10 years. I can teach students to read music and play styles from classical to pop, as well as to play contemporary music using chord charts. I always take the goals and preferences of the student into consideration when choosing repertoire and making lesson plans.

I also teach violin students of all ages and experience levels. I studied violin for 10 years and have been teaching violin professionally for 5+ years. I also have many years of orchestral performance experience, ensemble performance experience (playing piano and violin), and have been a part of a church worship band for over 10 years. Esther is passionate and knowledgeable about music and she does an incredible job of sharing that passion and knowledge with her students. She instructed my two young boys in a music class along with 6 other young students. She was always prepared and taught the class a variety of musical instruments and the history behind each of them. She instilled a love for music and instruments, into my boys. We were sad to have her move so far away but the knowledge she passed along to my boys, is priceless. We highly recommend Mrs. Esther!
