About Kelvin
I am a highly organized, outcome-driven and motivated professional musician and educator with solid experience in the classroom. For the past 25 years, I have been employed with Amati music academy and seven years on the faculty of University of St Francis.
I am very comfortable with all aspects of the current music syllabus, including teaching musical concepts (such as duration, pitch, dynamics, tone color, texture and structure) as well as performance, composition. I am fully qualified, with a Bachelor of Education in Music, Double Masters in music performance and education from University of Nottingham.
I am proficient in classical, jazz and Celtic fiddle violin and possess solid skills in piano (grade 8-13) Royal conservatory system.
Throughout my teaching career, I have been driven to help students achieve their very best. I str
ongly believe that music has the power to change lives – to enhance the social, cultural and spiritual lives of people, and serve as a profound medium of personal expression. Professional perform experience: The Chicago, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Three tours with Moody Blues, YoYo Ma etc....
The most important thing I look for in a student is communication skills, as well as talent. I like to nurture students and help identify their individual strengths, which is a key factor in shaping a musical persona that will make its mark both on and offstage. I do not advocate a uniform technique for all students. Physical differences and learning styles are always taken into consideration. Potential is as important to me as early achievements and experience. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, discriminating artists. I discuss practice techniques often and develop individualized scale routines. I encourage initiative and expressive musicality as well as precision. Above all, music needs to bring obvious joy to the student, regardless of the difficulties.”

Sergey taught me about everything I had questions about and also offered suggestions in helping me to better determine the best way to find the career path that is right for me. Rather than hard and fast lessons, it was an opportunity to spend time, one on one, with a professional and learn from his experiences what works and what doesn't.

About James
I am a student at Carnegie Mellon University and have been teaching or tutoring for close to a decade now. This includes paid and volunteer private tutoring, classroom teaching, teaching assistant, and even a summer camp for elementary and middle-school students to learn computer science and programming skills. I also competed in math club during high school and was particularly successful in my senior year competing in statistics (6th place in the individual Nationals statistics event).

Whether you want to catch up with your current math course, get ahead and learn more advanced math, or aiming to ace your SAT/ACT I'd be happy to help. What I enjoy most is to have a friendly, peer relationship with students rather than being seen as just a tutor so you can expect to have fun while learning. However, what is most important to me is not l
earning how to solve problems or getting high grades but rather knowing that my students UNDERSTAND the problems and solutions without simply memorizing. And you can take that as my personal guarantee.

Some might call me a "math nerd" (to which I take absolutely no offense) but I have other interests as well. Most recently I've taken up golf but I love playing any sport with friends. I also watch nature documentaries and comedies. And of course I also love videogames (Overwatch, COD, FIFA) as well as boardgames. To some parents these might seem like useless facts but as an experienced teacher I can tell you that connecting with students on unrelated topics has an invaluable effect on the student-teacher relationship and will make for a smoother, unfiltered learning atmosphere. Not to mention it's much more exciting to refer to a sports analogy for a word problem rather than the unrelatable problems people are unfortunately used to ("person A buys x ft of fence...").

About Olivia
I began studying astrology in 2010 after moving to a remote area for a change of scenery and received my certification from The School of Evolutionary Astrology in 2013.

On a personal level, I started looking into astrology because I felt my sign didn’t hit every angle of my being. When I read about other signs growing up, I always felt a part of me identified with each of them. I began my studies with the intention of discovering for myself if astrology was “for real” and it lead me to a treasure trove of self-discovery.

A common misconception about astrology is that it will tell you your future and it’s set in stone. In medieval times, when astronomers and astrologers were one in the same, astrology was only practiced with royalty to discern the potential of an heir. Those times were fragile for humanity day to day, and had a ten
dency to view cause and effect on a fatalistic scale.
Centuries later, the understanding of Astrology and its concepts have evolved. Particularly in Evolutionary Astrology, each soul has free will, there is no sealed fate. What it does show us is the potential of each soul. The planets provide the energy to produce the opportunities for the potential, the soul gets to choose to take it and if so, how it takes it.

It is my belief that astrology provides an empowering method of self-discovery. It is a central focus in my teaching to create an encouraging and safe atmosphere that allows students to look at dynamics in their lives and not only understand the root of it, but provide practical tools that help heal and lead to solutions. With this, I maintain a comfortable pace when working with more sensitive topics and areas of experience to prevent overwhelm.

Although astrology is a metaphysical and occult subject, my approach in teaching does not stray from “the real world”, so to speak. My students aren’t left in the fog deciphering whimsical metaphors that they can’t apply to their everyday life. They gain through each lesson a more comprehensive understanding to what they can utilize as a universal language. My rule of thumb is that if you can label opposing themes, hot vs. cold or wet vs. dry, then you can l learn astrology. If you find yourself connecting symbols throughout your day, you can learn astrology.

I can't say enough great things about Melissa. I had done some very basic knitting previously, and she taught me so many new tips and tricks in a very short amount of time. She's friendly, patient, and has a true passion for the art of knitting! It's inspiring to hear about the fun projects she's working on (usually as sweet gifts for other people). If you take a class from this super smart gal, you won't regret it!

Melissa was a great instructor for knitting. She walks you through each step and makes sure you completely understand the process. She walks you through casting a stitch, different stitches needed for each project, and how to go back and correct a dropped stitch. Her lessons are thorough and great for building the foundation needed for knitting well. She makes it simple enough for a beginner to understand and does so with humor and charm. I highly recommend Melissa!

Hello all!

I have been sewing since I was 10. For about 10 years, I worked in a very high volume David's Bridal. During this time I was the Alterations Manager. I currently own my own business since 2010. I design home decor, fashion accessories, clothing and do alterations, while specializing in wedding gowns and special occasion dresses. I started teaching sewing at Joann's in 2009 and am currently an adjunct Instructor at Hudson Valley Community College and Schenectady County Community College. I teach all ages and skill levels of sewing.

Although I am on Wyzant for private lessons, I can teach classes by request.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching because I enjoy the challenge of helping someone understand. I see tutoring as teaching one on one. I will individualize each lesson according to the need of the student. I will not skip over
something that is difficult for the student to understand. I will find another way to explain it or demonstrate it until the student gets it. I do this while being patient, kind, and fun! Students are never bored with me.

I am interested in results. I feel that tutoring only matters if results are being achieved. If there are any specific questions, concerns, or needs; please do not hesitate to contact me.
