Need help with the electric guitar? I can help you with everything from beginning technique to advanced techniques such as sweep picking, fast scales/arpeggios, natural and artificial harmonics, hybrid picking, finger tapping, legato, advanced scales and chords, etc.
If you feel like you're stuck or hit a wall, I can help take your skills to the next level; I can help you improve your technique, learn difficult songs, learn more about gear and gigs and performing, help you learn how to play any chord, key, or scale in any position, or help you learn how to solo, improvise, or write songs or come up with your own arrangements of other songs. I can help you learn to read/play rhythm, notation, and/or chord charts, or help you audition for school jazz band or rock bands, etc. I can also help you with music theory as well as learning modes and how chords and scales all work together, and how you can use chords to build all your scales and musical ideas off of, making it easier to improvise or write songs.
Whether you want to learn to be a guitar virtuoso or you just want to be able to play some songs
for your friends and family, I want to provide you with the best information and tools to help you accomplish your goals. I believe in trying to get the most out of the minimum - I want you to get the most benefit out of the time you spend, regardless if you are practicing for thirty minutes or for eight hours.
*** Background *** I have taught guitar lessons for almost 20 years; I also can teach music theory and composition, as well as beginning keyboards, percussion, and voice. I also gig professionally with varying bands, as well as being hired to perform for weddings/events.
I began taking piano lessons when I was six years old, but switched to guitar lessons at age ten. I also have a BA in music composition from UCSD.
I can teach all styles of guitar from electric and steel string acoustic to classical/flamenco as well as bass guitar, and I can teach all styles from rock/pop to jazz to blues to classical to country
*** Lesson Details *** I want the student to have fun with music, but I believe fundamentals are important too. Some schools focus on a "song first" approach, and while I prefer learning songs as soon as possible, I also believe learning some fundamentals will help avoid learning bad habits that can be difficult to break down the road. That being said, I try and be as flexible with the student as possible, as I know we all have different goals and amounts of time that we can dedicate, but I believe that even if someone just wants to learn some basic guitar playing, that a little understanding music theory and fundamentals will help them go a lot further.
Regardless, the student should be able to learn the music they want to play, and I will go out of my way to try and find/learn songs that will keep you interested. I will even transcribe or write my own arrangement if I can't find a suitable one, or to make a simpler version that the student can learn.
I recommend that my students practice at least thirty minutes a day if they want to see consistent progress, although in the beginning they may not be able to practice that much until they develop calluses on the fingertips. Of course, if they can practice more, that would be great, but I understand that with everything else going on, it isn't always possible to practice every day or for everyone to put the same time into it.
ALLERGY WARNING: I have cats at my house, so if you want to travel to my location, it could be an issue if you have cat allergies.

A job provides money. A career provides income over a longer term. But, guitar...guitar is part of who I am.
My passion for guitar and music has been alive as long as I can remember. Don't get me wrong, guitar and I had our ups and downs. Serious issues! At times guitar was stubborn and difficult. In fact, while attending the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago on the Presidential Scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance, there were days when I considered ending my relationship with guitar. But, I stayed with guitar. With dedication to our relationship and a lot of work, we are still together and happier than ever. And, here to help you work on your relationship with your guitar.
Fundamentals in electric guitar playing both in rhythm and lead. explored in depth through exercises, scales, arpeggios, popular songs, and creative composing techniques.

Ryan's method and personality really clicked with my son. We definitely picked the right teacher!

Ryan is professional and easy going at the same time. So far so good. I'm excited to keep going.
November 9, 2016
Ryan takes his time and tailors my lessons specifically to my level and to the type of music I’d like to play. He covers everything from the basics – like the proper way to hold the pick – to more advanced teachings like music theory. Ryan is flexible, patient, easy going, and he consistently teaches at a pace that I’m comfortable with. He provides take-home practice after every lesson and always has helpful suggestions any time I have questions. What I find incredibly helpful is that at the end of the lesson Ryan will run through the take-home practice on his guitar and let me record it on my phone so it’s easier for me to remember. When I’m ready to practice the next day I just pull up his notes and the video and I’m ready to go!
It’s obvious that Ryan has a passion for music, and it shows in his lessons. I would easily give him my highest recommendation.

I am a recent Berklee College of Music graduate living in Chicago. At Berklee, I was the first rock/metal guitarist to receive the "Jimi Hendrix Award." This award is given to the best guitarist at the school. I've played and studied many styles of music ranging from classical, traditional, blues, country, rock, and metal. Besides teaching, I have a passion for songwriting and performance. Here in Chicago, I am currently playing with various bands and writing my own music. My teaching style is very "goal-oriented," and I will teach students to set short-term goals, medium goals, and then demonstrate to them how reaching the short and medium-term goals leads to accomplishing long-term goals. I envision teaching much like my teachings at Berklee where once my lesson was finished, I only wanted to go home and learn more. If you want to learn multiple styles from someone who is truly passionate about the instrument, I'm your guy!
Hello, my name is Michael! I have been playing guitar since I was 10-years old. Aside from being a teacher, performer, and songwriter, I would define myself as a "guitar nerd" because I love every aspect of playing. I still practice every day and have an insatiable hunger for new opportunities to play and learn. I have an encyclopedic knowledge of metal, rock, blues, country, and guitar. In my spare time, I enjoy writing music and playing more guitar. I graduated from Berklee in 2017, where I received the Jimi Hendrix Award. This is given to the best guitar player in the school. I was the first rock/metal guitar player to do so! I received instruction from world-class teachers such as Joe Stump and Norm Zocher. Besides teaching, I have a passion for songwriting and performance; while in Boston, I played and recorded with the melodic met
al band Black Trip. With Black Trip, I was fortunate enough to open up for such bands as Sabaton, Children of Bodom, Rhapsody of Fire, and Doro. Here in Los Angeles, I am currently teaching, playing with various bands, and working on my band's debut album.
I'm 2 lessons in and so far Michael has been a great teacher. He is exceptionally skilled and has a wealth of knowledge to share, as well as being very good at listening to what I am trying to accomplish and creating well thought out exercises to help me progress. Highly recommended!
November 5, 2018
Michael has incredible patience with students from beginner to extremely advanced. His excitement about mastering guitar is infectious. He instills confidence in any student and is genuinely thrilled when they achieve their goals. I highly recommend Michael as a teacher.
November 5, 2018
Michael is an amazing guitar player! He is extremely disciplined with a wide array of experiences. He was acclaimed by peers and professors at Berklee. Michael brings the dedication and talent that will help students succeed. If you want to learn from the best of the best, learn from Michael!

I am a semi-professional guitarist and I have played in the local Dover - Seacoast area with different groups over the years which is given me a greater understanding about my craft.
Students can expect to improve incrementally after each week as we explore different techniques and styles that the student is interested in. Using your favorite songs, I will teach you proper building blocks for good technique in order to get the best sound and achieve the best playing experience possible. I can teach students of all ages and skill levels. I can teach you to read and learn things by the book, or I can teach you to learn by ear. I base my lessons around the goals of the student.
I have a passion for playing music and sharing my joy with people through that. I can't wait to meet you and help you with your musical journey!
I have worked with Jarred for several years, not only is he a talented player but he is very knowledgeable about many different aspects of music inlcuding theory and reading. He helped me teach a class at an adult center and showed a real ability to patiently help students throughout their lesson time. I would highly recommend!

Jarred is an incredible guitarist. This guy is the real deal and I highly recommend studying with him. Seeing him play live is always mesmerizing.
"I have been playing guitar for way too long to still be at the level that I am.. I suppose that says something about my practice habits. I also have plent
y of gaps in my knowledge. Morgan is really great at identifying where those gaps are and helping me past them in a way that is encouraging me to practice more often because the routine he gives me doesn't feel like practice."
"Really good demeanor. Knowledgeable. Humorous. Patient. Great first lesson."
"Jonathan is a great guitar teacher, he's very knowledgeable and does a good job of helping you understand the guitar. A great aspect of Jonathan's guitar
lessons is that he shows you how to apply technical information (chords, scales, arpeggios, triads, etc.) to actual music.
Book your next guitar lesson with Jonathan, you will be glad you did!"
"I took guitar lessons from Greg for a year. I had a GREAT experience and HIGHLY recommend him to anyone who wants to learn to play."
"Greg taught my son Daniel. Daniel came a long way during his lessons with Greg. Good teacher."
"Ahmad is the BEST! I usually feel pretty self-conscious when learning something new, but never the case with Ahmad. Weekly lessons were always super fun a
nd a great escape from work. He individualizes his classes and keeps your preferred genre in mind. He even wrote out the music based on youtube videos of my favorite songs (guitar or not!) Very talented and knowledgeable about his craft. Cannot think of one negative thing. SUPERB!"
"I have been taking electric guitar lessons for a few months. I learned a lot in those few short months. He has a lot of talent and is a great teacher."
"He is good!!! I can play the very basic when I started but still need someone to help me to put everything together. He can diagnosis my level and desi
gn the learning plan for me when we first met. Lesson is fun and he always got something new/interesting to for students to work and practice."
"Knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. Would recommend highly to anyone."
