For most of us drummers and rhythmatists we cannot go an hour without banging something or tapping or humming or moving.. if this describes you or your child then Im the guy who would be delighted to foster your development in your lifelong pursuit of the ultimate beat. I cannot give you God given talent , but I can take what talent god has given you and accentuate the positive. Work with you on fundamentals, technique, timbre, timing, tuning, sight reading..the list goes on..Its a lifelong pursuit..How long you choose to pursue it is up to you.. Im here to be your mentor.

Im pretty laid back with teaching discipline. Either you got it or you dont. I cannot push you or force you into practicing.. You must inherently love music and love rhythm and love drumming or percussion. If I am working with you on Kit drumming you will be starting out with the basics unless you have experience. I normally do an assessment to determine where you are at.. If I am teaching you hand percussion or African or Asian based drums then its strictly an aural based learning experience. No books just memorization. Kit drumming will require either you have your own Drum kit if I am coming to your house or of you travel to my studio I will have 1 drum kit to share , but you must have your own sticks. I do employ books in Drum Kit lessons. I will give you the names of the books based on what I think your level is and we can go from there..

Music is a complex yet beautiful language. Once you are immersed in the culture of the beat your journey thus begins. And journeys like these last a lifetime. I hope I can be a part of your experience.

Many Blessings
One Rhythm
One Love

Introduction

My name is Kelly Meholic and I am a private flute lesson instructor. I have about 20 years playing experience and 13 years of experience teaching private flute lessons. In 2009 I graduated from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana with my Master's in Flute Performance. Prior to that I attended Florida State University and earned my Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance.

I am very lucky to be able to share my passion for playing the flute with others for a living! It is so awesome to hear how students grow with each lesson and to see them reach their goals whether it is gaining confidence in their playing, making All-State, or winning an audition or competition. One thing that I try to do in lessons is to send a recording after we have finished working on a piece. It is always fun to listen back down the ro
ad and hear the progress you or your child has made! I am a very patient person and in my teaching I try to keep the atmosphere positive and encouraging. I have taught in person and online all across the country including Hawaii and even as far away as Italy to all ages and levels, beginning to advanced. You never know what talent is hidden inside that could be brought out with proper instruction. After I had graduated college with my music degrees, I remember my first flute teacher finally sharing with me that I was the only student she ever had that could not make a sound in their first lesson! So you truly never know until you try!

Lesson Length Recommendations:
Beginner - 30 minute lesson
Intermediate - 45 minute lesson
Advanced - 60 minute lesson

Biography

I was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida and began studying the flute at the age of 12. My interest in music was sparked after weeks of gazing longingly through the window as my twin sister crossed the street to her French horn lessons. I was determined to play an instrument too, so I asked my mom if I could take music lessons. It turned out that there was a fantastic flute teacher who happened to live down the street, so I began walking to my flute lessons. That flute teacher was Betsy Hudson-Traba, principal flutist of what is now the Sarasota Orchestra. Meeting her and starting flute lessons set my life down an incredible journey through music that would eventually take me halfway across the world.

With Betsy's instruction and encouragement, I had much success as a young musician. Throughout high school I played principal flute in Sarasota’s youth orchestra program and was a winner of the Young Artist Competition. I attended Interlochen Arts Camp where I was exposed to many wonderful artists and teachers. With a lot of hard work, I was able to win first chair flute in the FMEA All-State multiple times and also participated every year in the Solo & Ensemble Festival. I loved playing classical music, but fell in love with marching band too and became drum major which ignited my passion for teaching.

Wanting to pursue music as a career, I went on to study with Eva Amsler at Florida State University where I earned my Bachelor of Music in flute performance. Her teaching gave me a greater understanding of tone development, movement, and body awareness. I had a lot of wonderful playing opportunities here and as an undergraduate was playing in the top orchestra. During my time at FSU I was a proud member of the “world renown” Marching CHIEFS, where I served as section leader to 50+ flutes! It was truly incredible having a weekly audience of 80,000 football fans cheering us on. One of my favorite and more unique ensembles I participated in at FSU was the Andean ensemble, Aconcagua. I played the zampona (panpipes) and the quena (Andean flute). I loved it because it gave me the chance to play flutes still, but in a different capacity that was much more free than the classical music setting I was accustomed to.

After undergrad, I decided to go abroad for graduate school earning my Master’s at a small conservatory in beautiful Lugano, Switzerland called the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana. I studied under Italian flutists, Mario Ancillotti, Stefano Parrino, and Giovanni Crola. Through their help I was able to refine and demonstrate greater musicality in my playing. Performance was emphasized greatly in lessons and in our school curriculum. I also had many opportunities to pursue my love of travelling and work on my foreign language skills!

After heading home to the States I began my freelance career substituting in various orchestras in Florida including the Sarasota Orchestra, Sarasota Ballet Orchestra, and the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. I now live in Acworth, Georgia where I teach private flute lessons and play in the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra as well as serve on the orchestra board as the President. In addition to music, I love spending time with my family, friends, my husband, Vance, and our adorable kitties (Ron, Harry, & Roux) I also enjoy volunteering at church where I work with the elementary age kids, and like reading, hiking, trying to bake, organizing, and cleaning!

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in flute and piccolo solo, orchestral, band, and chamber ensemble playing and also audition prep.

I teach up-right bass (double bass or acoustic bass), and music theory.
Many of my students take the AP Music Theory test after approximately a year.
I'm a graduate of Juilliard (BM and MM) and earned a doctorate from the

I also work a great deal with preparing students for all-state auditions. My teaching

I have worked with and seen Marie Hinds' work over the past 8 years. Not only has she taught children and adults of all ages, she has fostered an intrinsic love for music which is at the soul of any artists' teaching. I have seen Pre-K students identify the different families of instruments to performing songs in different languages under her guidance. She knows how to meet a child.or an adult at their ability level and challenge them enough to help them advance and learn songs they dreamed of mastering! I highly recommend Marie Hinds as a music teacher of singing, gospel singing, piano and reading music. She is also a highly experienced reading teacher. She incorporates her knowledge of reading foundations to translate to reading and learning music. You will receive a holistic approach to music education under Marie Hinds.

About Melanie
As a professional flutist, I've performed with orchestras, and do a lot of chamber music, including new music. I've performed with piano, guitar, harp for both Celtic and classical, cello, woodwind quintet, string quartet, choirs, jazz piano trio, and free improvisation with cello and bass. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia for music performance and music education, and got my Master's degree in flute performance from the Hartt School of music.

My philosophy of teaching: I teach music because it is unique and necessary. Students learn best in a relaxed, nurturing environment. I believe in order to successfully teach, I need to be encouraging, and truly care about the students. My goal is to always have the students improve. To do this, I think students need a well-balanced diet of tone (Moyse De la Senorite can be used), technique (
scales for younger students, Maquarre Daily Exercises or Taffanel and Gaubert Daily Excercises for more advanced students), etudes (Melodious and Progressive Studies), and pieces (I consult the NYSSMA manual for appropriate pieces for the students level). Having taken Alexander Technique, I strongly emphasize posture so that students can use their bodies in the most efficient way. Individualized instruction allows for teachers to cater to the needs of the student, challenging the students without frustrating them. Everyone is unique and learns at different rates, so no two lessons will ever be the same. I teach students how to practice, so that they can progress outside of the 30 min. or hour long lesson. As for performance standards, I have used rubrics for tone, technique, articulation, phrasing, and breathing. Once strengths and weaknesses are assed, I create a plan to help the student improve, which is what students and teachers want to hear.

I started playing the clarinet in 6th grade. I soon realized that I was a decent musician, but the clarinet just wasn't fulfilling... then I saw it. The BASSOON. I fell in love with this instrument. So much so, that I have two degrees and professionally play in Arizona! I currently play in the Tucson Symphony, Arizona Opera, True Concord Voices and Orchestra (Grammy-nominated), and Broadway in Tucson.

I have had my own bassoon studio since 2002. I started in Florida and moved out here to begin my doctorate in bassoon performance. I am originally from Columbus, GA, where I received my Bachelor's in Music Performance degree. I then went to Florida State University and completed my Master's of Music Performance degree after being a full-time teaching assistant.

I have been making my own bassoon reeds from scratch since 1996 and continue to
research and hone my craft. I have a professional reed-making business through Etsy and eBay, and soon to be (unofficially) bassoon/oboe websites.

Being a crafty person, I am also trying to develop my own silk bassoon swabs and bassoon-wrapped pencils! When I am not doing that, I make my own jewelry to give to friends and family.

About Libby
Libby Weitnauer is a fiddle player, violinist, and educator currently based in Brooklyn, NY.

Libby began her journey on the violin at the age of 4 in the musical community of East Tennessee. During her time there, she soloed with several local orchestras including the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Maryville College Community Orchestra, Oak Ridge Youth Symphony, and Knoxville Youth Symphony Orchestra and had her performance dubbed “ethereal” by the Knoxville News Sentinel. After high school, Libby moved to Chicago to study with pedagogue Olga Kaler and complete her Bachelor’s degree in violin performance at DePaul University. She grew homesick for the sounds of the Smoky Mountains and began exploring various fiddling traditions while composing and performing with new acoustic trio Ask Your Folks. It was through this process that Libby eve
ntually found her way to the Appalachian old-time fiddle music that she now calls home.

Since that stylistic shift, Libby has learned from many friends and teachers including Matt Brown, Rayna Gellert, and most recently, Grammy Award winner Dom Flemons during a summer of research and music making at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Libby is currently a member of the oldtime stringband Ginny’s Kitchen and a newly formed duo project with banjo-fiddler Jake Blount, Tui.

During her time developing as a fiddler, Libby has also continued her classical violin career. In 2018 she graduated from New York University with a Masters of Music, where she studied with Gregory Fulkerson and served on adjunct faculty teaching undergraduate non-music majors.
