For my beginning violin students, I have found the Essential Elements Series to be highly effective, as well as the Suzuki methodology. All lessons will typically start with scales/arpeggios and be followed with the selected piece(s) we have chosen together. All of my students will attest that I set clear and high expectations for every lesson, yet am very understanding, friendly and approachable right from the start. My goal is to provide every individual with the tools necessary for becoming a well-rounded musician, so that they too can share their love for music with others.

About Michael

Beginning his cello instruction at the age of 8, Michael spent the majority of his early years under the guidance of Nancy Hambleton-Torrente, current director of music for the Yorktown public school districts in Westchester county. During his undergraduate years, he attended Colgate University whe

I had a great class with Michael. He is extremely experienced in teaching and he has a very focused teaching strategy. Definitely take his class if you are interested in cello.
Yemi A.
I have been taking lessons with Michael for over a year now. I've taken lessons before with other instructors (though not in cello). Michael is one of the best instructors that I have ever had. He instructs and challenges you to get better, while at the same time being patient with your development. It has been a pleasure being a student of Michael.

I have taught all levels and all ages but I found that teaching young children is where I feel most fulfilled and connected! Although I am a certified in the Suzuki Pedagogy Method, I cater my lessons to fit the needs of each individual student and will find teaching methods that will be most beneficial to the individual student.

About Evamarie

Growing up in a musical family in the Bay Area, California - her mother and brother are pianists and organists, and her dad a singer - it was no surprise that Evamarie would also find a passion in music. Picking up her first violin at 5 years old, she completed her formal musical training at the B

Though our experience with Jiawei was brief (just three lessons as a summer fill-in for our regular teacher), our daughter very much enjoyed working with her. Jiawei is certainly someone we would pursue as a regular teacher if we had that need.

I've taught people who were just beginning violin (both children and adults) to students who were working on major concertos. What is most important to me as a teacher is that the student connect with the music and their instrument by being creative and personalizing my approach for the student. I also strongly strive to make performers out of violinists and to help them engage both audiences and themselves.

About Ha-eun

I have been surrounded by music my whole life and have played violin for 19 years. I went to high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy, obtained a BM in violin performance at Oberlin Conservatory and an MM at the Boston Conservatory. I have won competitions, played in professional orchestras, per

Her help with bow hold, relaxation with the right hand and arm, will help me enjoy playing.

Ha-eun is fantastic! She is helping our 10 year-old daughter master a new piece she needs to learn within the next 2 weeks. Can't praise her enough! We do in person as well as internet lessons. During the lesson, Ha-eun is focused on the student and her passion for music and fondness of teaching others truly shows. Listening to her playing the violin to show how it should be done is a delight. We consider ourselves lucky to have such a great teacher.
Alexander
In one lesson, Ha-eun gave me excellent adjustments to improve my technique. I'll definitely be coming back.

I've been teaching privately since 2013.

My teaching goals vary depend a great deal on the level of the student, but also what the student wants to get out of violin/music as well!

My style of teaching is pretty relaxed. As interested as I am in the technical matters of playing the violin, I believe the music itself matters the most and strive to always put the music above all. Technique is just vehicle we use to make the music possible.

"My daughter loves her online sessions with Amy. She is always upbeat, patient and willing to keep her interested and moving forward. Amy personalizes my daughter's lessons and makes sure she has fun, while at the same time learning. Amy has been very accommodating with learning the music that Shanna has been working on at school and working around Shanna's very busy schedule."

"I am excited to write a review for our awesome violin instructor~! Our little pre-teen 10 year old daughter took lessons prior Miss Emily for about 6 months but had no motivation to practice and so there was no progress. However, since we met Miss Emily, our daughter has been so motivated! Only after her first lesson, she understood how to read notes, she was engaged, and must've picked up her violin to practice at least 3 times a day for a good 20-30 minutes on her own (under no request by Miss Emily)! I believe it is because Miss Emily is very passionate about her teaching and is very encouraging towards her students. She doesn't make violin lessons a chore, rather an amazing experience!

Miss Emily is very knowledgeable and an amazing and very professional instructor! She patiently goes step by step to make sure all the basis for a firm foundation in music is there and then thoroughly goes to all the steps to keep it simple in learning! She builds great rapport and brings her personal experience to make her more relatable! I would highly recommend Miss. Emily as an instructor!"

"My daughter age 13 has been playing violin in the school's orchestra. I did not see much progress until we signed her up for lesson about 2 years ago. My daughter has been working well with Jessica. She has her good days and bad days about making a commitment to practice. I have seen some progress she is playing 1st violin at school and has actually started practicing the music on her own. She has her good days and bad days about practicing. Jessica has encouraged her a lot she seems to understand my daughters point of view on music and I value Jessica's opinion."
