I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University. I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my students an array of tools to gain the ability
and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning. My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises. Acting As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on. Creative and Lyric Writing I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.
*** Studio Equipment *** home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents -practice studio seating for parents
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, cabaret, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.
A very good first lesson. We went over breathing exercises and scales. Also had time for Amy to critique my speaking style through a portion of a speech I will be giving in a month. Time well-spent.
She briefly went over the next lesson plan and gave me a little homework to do as well.
I got a lot out of this lesson and I can see how this will help me accomplish my goal of being a better public speaker and having a more controlled and stronger voice.
Looking forward to future lessons.

Patient. Gifted Teacher!

Amy is absolutely incredible. She showed keen interest in my concerns and challenges. She listened and knew exactly what I needed to do to get to where I want to be. She makes it easy for me to understand and she is truly a great coach. I can’t wait to see her again.
Hello! I'm a graduate of Brown University with honors in Italian Studies and Performance Studies. I am a tutor with over five years of experience and have completed over 800 hours of tutoring. I have over 25 hours of test prep training for the SAT and ACT and over 10 hours of training for Executive Functioning coaching.
I teach students test prep, math, Italian, kickboxing, and theatre. From helping students in summer school math classes, to teaching individual and group kickboxing classes, to tutoring students of Italian language and literature, to working with high school test prep students, I have a deep passion for learning and for sharing knowledge.
As an actor, I have performed at Williamstown, La MaMa, and the Washington National Opera. I studied with faculty from Brown University, the Moscow Art Theatre, and the Barrow Grou
p. During college, I had opportunities to live in Florence, Rome, and Sicily, and in my senior year I became a tutor of Italian for the dean of the college. I also have taught kickboxing for the last two years and have experience with Muay Thai and San Da.
I am eager to help you develop new skill sets and reach your goals.
Hi there! I'm Melissa, and I am a fashion design and sewing teacher on Staten Island. I have been teaching children and adults how to sew since 2014. I've been sewing since I was a child, and I've been teaching since 2007.
I am mostly self-taught, and that, coupled with my youth, gives me a unique perspective when teaching. My first goal is to give my students all of the tools they need to feel confident from the very first lesson- almost all of my students finish the first hour with a handy drawstring bag to keep their new sewing supplies in. I have a specific sewing curriculum for the first 3-5 lessons that helps lay a groundwork for making more exciting things.
After we finish those steps, I work individually with students to make whatever they would like, from Halloween costumes to memory pillows to peplum tops. The choice is
yours. I'm not the kind of teacher that is going to make you spend hours mastering a straight hem because frankly, that's really boring. I want you to learn while working on projects you care about
My experience includes;
-I worked in a tutoring school teaching kids from ages 5-17 in all subjects. -I designed a program called Creative Studios for creative writing, fashion design and fine art. I taught these subjects to students aged 8-12. -I teach sewing and fashion design (including fashion drawing) to various students in a one on one format. -I teach fashion design and sewing to tweens, teens, and adults at SI Dance and Arts Center -I taught at the Harlem Educational Activities Fund Saturday Academy -I am pursuing a Masters in Adolescent Education in Social Studies
Please note that I am located in Staten Island, NY. I may be able to accommodate some Brooklyn or Woodbridge students, but please inquire before booking.
My studio space is located at Staten Island Dance and Art Center. It's a lovely, artsy space with bright yellow walls, six sewing machines, and 2 professional mannequins.
Welcome students and parents: You may not know it yet, but stumbling upon my page may change your life for the better. With me, your immersion into the world of science and education may open up opportunities that may alter your children's future path.
I have tutored students at the junior/high school, and college levels. As a teaching assistance for undergraduates at the Ivy league, the Univ of Pennsylvania, I teach pupils to dissect problems and challenges into manageable components. This was my stepping stone into a professorial role. I am originally from NYC, and attended Stuyvesant, so I also help tutor students with the SSAT and SHSAT. Knowledge and understanding alone does not make a good educator, it is the ability to transmit such skills which is remarkable.
I have a Master's of Science of Biochemical Engineering from the
University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor's of Science in biomedical sciences from King's College, University of London.
Craig's teaching is quite impressive. I'm a math teacher myself, but when I caught moments of him teaching my daughter struggling in algebra 2, I thought his approach was better! His instruction is excellent and she is now doiing great in Algebra 2.

Craig has greatly helped my daughter struggling in chemistry! She now consistently achieves in the 90's. Without him, she would not have found an appreciation for chemistry and has now decided to sign up for AP Chem. His explanations are clear and easy to understand.

Craig is a marvelous tutor. For my twins, he brought up their MATH SAT 130 and 150 points respectively. With my middle schooler he has helped bring up her SSAT to the 94% (percentile) getting her into our top choice. He is thorough and meticulous tutor teaching them how to find and fix their own mistakes.
Lehman College, Bachelors of Fine Arts, Graduate! I am a Musical Theatre Performer. I perform all the time and believe that warm-ups are a big importance when it comes to performing. Technique is something I have been studying for a while, and I am consistently learning what new techniques work for myself too. I teach singing, acting and other subjects too, check them out!
I am a professional singer, pianist, songwriter, and recording artist. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Music, specifically voice.
Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice has a unique timbre; I teach students to release built up tension and apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound. I can help any student to sing with freedom, confidence, and expression.
I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano for 16 years, and contemporary keyboard for 7 of those. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.
As a professional recording artist I
frequently take trips to Nashville for co-writing, recording, and meeting with record labels. I have written with well-known writers like Mia Fieldes from Hillsong, Tony Wood from Provident Label Group, Stu G from Delirious?, and Jon Steingard from Hawk Nelson. I love to mentor students who want to become effective, dynamic songwriters.
My personal passion is contemporary music but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

"I just received my test scores and broke the 85th percentile thanks to you! I had not scored anywhere close to what I got, on any practice before, but she
guaranteed score jumps weekly with her created study schedule and each week my score consistently went up. I am VERY VERY VERY glad I used her. Marthe has helped streamline and edit my thesis as well and is just great at teaching information and providing study techniques to suit you. I will absolutely be back for GRE prep!!!"
"SHE WAS AMAZING!!!"
"Nazim is a very knowledgeable tutor. His grasp of the LSAT is way above what I've found from other tutors. He tailored our session based on where I needed
most improvement. Highly Recommend him to anyone looking for a great tutor and for a LSAT score boost."
"I'm happy to say I found Colin for help with my calculus 1 class. I was doing okay from the beginning, but I felt like I was lacking the depth of understa
nding of some core algebra concepts and wanted to get solid on them before the class got more challenging (integration), as I was striving for an A in the class. Colin was a wizard at honing in on my weak points and he did an excellent job of really breaking things down and honestly, presenting concepts in more tangible ways than did any of my algebra teachers. I used the principles I learned from my sessions with Colin to get me through some challenging exam problems, and I'm proud to say that I ended up with a 97% in the class overall!"
"Mena has been tutoring my son on the SAT math and he is an expert with great experience and methods and also very passionate in helping my son to improve
the skill and scores. With his tutoring, my son has made good progress and improve both his skill and confidence in the SAT math test. Thank you very much!"
"What I didn't know
I felt I had a good grasp on Modern history until my eyes were opened to facts that I did not know existed. Wonderful illustrations, a
nd organization and research. Wonderful lesson. Can't wait for next session!"
"Thanks to Tom, I passed my exams. Grammar was a big problem. Tom gave me tips and suggestions on using nouns, pronouns, and prepositions within a sentenc
e. Meanwhile the lessons improved my confidence and ability in speaking."
"Kesley is a great teacher. She customized each lesson according to my need."
"I was failing genetics and with online tutoring i went from a 69% to A. He really has your best interests in mind, when i asked him last minute to help an
d he was too packed helping other students he referred me to another well rounded tutor. dr. Z is worth the wait since he has a lot of patience for disabled students, he truly enables them. Thank you for helping me accomplish such a tough subject."
